Blazin HOT Disney Buses.

No more purple Barney costumes. The new bus drivers uniforms came out a few months ago. Most drivers like them, but there are a few problems with the new ones. Also, not many of the drivers like the hats. BTW, that's not me in the photo.

On our last impromptu trip, I noticed a lot of the drivers were still wearing the white straw hats.

I mentioned there are a few problems with the new uniforms and that's one of them, the hats. Not many drivers wear the new military style hat so Disney allows the white Panama hat to be worn instead. But most drivers don't like those either. Drivers that want to wear a hat, want the baseball cap style. Those are not supposed to be worn, but a lot of drivers wear them anyways. We're hoping that management gives in and comes up with a nice cap.
Another issue is that they don't have new jackets yet. So if they don't give out a jacket that goes with the new uniforms, we'll be wearing the old ones that don't match at all.

They should just use a nice gray base ball hat with the disney transpot logo or put a disney bus on the hat. They could even do disney transport through the years put the first bus they used then put the year and pic of the new bus they stared to use up to present. Give a little history of disney transport and it will match the retro out fits the drivers wear. They gave you guys big hat i wonder how big the jacket will be either really small or realy big like the hats.

The military style cap reminds me of Ralph Kramden! I love the retro look, but it is a different world now, people don't like wearing hats as much now. A gray baseball cap could look ok. They better work on a jacket asap, though! It is almost fall and the old ones will look terrible.

I agree with your hat idea. One of the drivers had one made up. A black cap with the red Disney "D". It looks great. We are wondering what the jackets will look like.

We're all hoping that the jackets are not like the one that Jackie Gleason wore.

My favorite part of the new costumes is the metal shirt buttons. The pattern resembles a gear with an iron cross in the center. To me, very art deco-ey industrial revolution!

The old costumes were costumes; the new ones look more like uniforms.

They have a more tailored look, which looks better, but also makes them a bit tight in the wrong places of aging bus driver bodies.

And personally, I would love a Ralph Kramden waist jacket, but I don't think it would do much to keep us warm.

Hmmm, what places are those?

Really, not a pretty site seeing a 300 lb driver wearing one of those form fitting jackets? Not saying that you fit that description though.

Disney transportion throw down lol just joking atleast your both disney bus drivers saying that. I can't Believe that thier no one that works in the monorail department complaing that they didn't get new uniforms yet. Or complaining about their red bomber jacket they have to wear disney should make on uniform for all transportion only change should be the shoulder patch bus drivers will have a bus monorails will have a monorail and boats will have a boat on them. Just to let everyone know they work for the same department so they can all answer question on how to get places.

lol I love the Ralph Kramden look but you guys do need something warm! Maybe something in the dark gray color- either a fitted baseball player style jacket or a peacoat to go with the retro/military look. I did the WDWCP in 1999 and I loved the peacoats they had us wear when it was cold. Ours had the "Disney MGM Studios" logo, maybe yours could have the red D? or the metal cross buttons?

PS I love Disney bus drivers! We had some of the best- including one that drove the bus for my wedding group to go to the dessert party. I would love to write a letter for him but I don't know his name- I have a picture though!

The funny thing is that I have no clue who the other drivers on here are. I probably work with them all the time. As for the Monorail CMs not posting, it's because most of them can't read. You didn't hear that from me.

It must have been me. Oh, wait a minute, you said you have a picture, never mind.

I was joking if your a monorail cm please dont take offense i was just jokeing i didnt mean any thing bad.

I would rather drive a monorail or a subway train than a bus. Don't like to have to steer the bus through traffic and line it up with the curb and get back into the lane without hitting parked cars.

Not likely to relocate to Florida soon but did the next best thing, apply to drive the MBTA subway (Boston). But not much of a chance there either, came in something like 18,000 down on the hiring list derived from a lottery. After they call you, if they do, then comes various tests including to see if you can read.

I know of subway trains that were retrofitted with opening windows, but they did not have air conditioning to begin with (they had fans in the ceiling that stirred up a good breeze).

I know why you like the monorails they wear red like the red sox well they ae the same color of my team the angels. I like the monorail to i think them and the bus are cool jobs because you get to see the most of disney.

Just the drivers window opens.

It depends on the time of the year and which of the three models you were on. I don't recall a guest ever telling me that it was too cold in one of the older buses during the hot months. Different story the rest of the year though.

I usually heard it during rain storms, from guests coming out of the water parks.(someone please explain to me why if you are already in wet from being in the water, that rain would make a big difference? No storm just rain) Back when BB was a stand alone hub, whenver it rained, people would come out, hit the bus and its a/c and the first words were its freezing in here, can you turn off the ac.? TL got it a lot also.Especially when you were stuck in there for 45 minutes waiting to get out.

I've been on a hot bus at Disney in the middle of summer, I was sitting in the back of the bus and the seat I was sitting on was blazing hot,I assume it was the engine or whatever that was making it hot. That bus ride was probably 5 years ago and I remember it clearly cause it was not fun at all, after about 10 minutes sitting I had to get up and stand by the back door, by that time my back was burning hot and I was sweating like I was running a marathon. What made it even worse was that it was a bus out of AK(the furthest park) and there was construction on the road which had us not moving for like 5-10 minutes.

Im gonna hazzard a guess and say its the 4700 series up to 4814. Those busses the transmissions are under the back seats. If the insulation starts to come off or maint, forgot to put it back those seats can get hot. The engines are actually sideways behind the big a/c intakes.

No buttons to push for computer response.

Wait minute. Am I posting out loud again?

Good memory for someone that's been away from WDW buses for a while. I can't remember what I had for breakfast.

For a while I had a list going to see how many times I got the same bus, and how long it took to go thru the whole list. I gave up after 6 months. (helped that I was a lead for the last 2 years and had to give bus numbers as well as who was driving and where they were going.Picky drivers)

4810-4814 were my favorite busses. They had plenty of power, and everything worked. Until maint fixed the lifts.(my ex used to work in bus maint as a C mech) The only difference between them and the 2700 (up to 2743) and the 4700 series were the engine/tranny combos.

I actually saw 4760s tranny inside the bus, after it was hit by another RTS(outside bus and driver) in front of the Carribean. After that and not long later when the Novas started to show up, and saw the damage from 4815 after it rolled into a tree, the numbers stuck with me.Along with which bus I felt safer in.

I am going to guess you was or still is a disney bus driver or worked as a disney bus maint how elese would you know the seris number and where the transmissions was. That cool if you was or still is in disney transport or another disney cm. You miss the purple uniforms and why dont they come out with short for the bus drivers like they do for those shy monorail workers?

Was.
When I was a lead, I was frequently bus 8 which was the lead in charge of spare busses. We also had to account for every single bus for the day , and how many hours they were at what location. When I wasnt, I was the superbus driver out of PI, and had to go up there for fuel. The first part of my shift as bus 8, was at maint. checking on what busses were available and the expected availability of the ones curently being fixed. I was good friends with most of the mech back there, though there was 1 or 2 that I didnt see eye to eye with. Little things like air leaks a runnuing bus couldnt keep up with and they said there was nothing wrong with that. Things like that. Id seen more then a few busses with the engines and trannies out for rebuild, and they are palletized. They drop a few bolts, some hoses, and wiring, the forklift supports the whole thing and they can swap an engine tranny combo in less then 12 hours.Theyll rebuild an entire engine inless then 16 hours from the time they start.

As far as the uniforms, dont miss the purple at all. We were constanly being confused with security. Not that we looked half way professional. The old brown uniforms were more professional looking, at least to me, then the Barney colors.

Now. Shorts.

Look at some of the drivers. Do you really want some of them wearing shorts? :)

why dont they come out with shorts for the bus drivers like they do for those shy monorail workers?
I'm going to request that you get banned from WDW for even suggesting such a thing? That vision of some drivers in shorts is stuck in my brain. I won't be able to sleep tonight.
