blackout dates for passholders

Hi, everyone - I live in Orlando and we have seasonal passes, which get us into the 4 theme parks, (we have to pay for parking), and there are some blackout dates. We're blacked out for most of the summer, which is fine with me, cause it's 4,000 degrees and miserable outside anyway!!

But here's my question: DH's friend is coming to Disney and he might want to go into the parks for a day. Has anyone ever tried to use their seasonal pass on a blackout date? I don't know how they can tell which pass you have...is it programmed in there somehow? Should he just try to go? Someone told me once that they always cancel some of the blackout dates for passholders anyway...so what should we do? What will happen if he tries to use his pass on a blackout date?

It wont scan...we asked a CM one time how they check to make sure no one tries to sneak in on the block out dates

Just like using an expired ticket, the computer will not let them in.

He's not getting in,the CM attending the turnstiles will tell him to go upgrade his pass to a full annual or buy a 1-day pass. The attendant's aren't the ones who see what pass you have, when you put your ticket in,the computer knows if it's a seasonal, annual,MYW and if it's June 20th and you stick a seasonal in there it's not going to open up for you and then the CM will see what Ticket you have and send you on your way to upgrade your ticket or buy a 1 day!!

As far as when or if they lift the blackout dates early,I suggest you keep coming on these boards to see if they do it.Last year they didn't lift them, but the previous year's they were lifted like 3 weeks early. So this year the blackout ends Aug.16th so if it happens I would expect around the end of July sometime!!

OK, thanks everyone! I was afraid if he went and tried to get in they would confiscate his pass and kick him out of WDW forever!! :scared1: I appreciate everyone's input! I figured it was the computer that could tell, but I just wanted to check. :thumbsup2

Plenty of people make the mistake, I'm sure. They wouldn't confiscate the pass, but it would obviously be an annoying inconvenience.

I truly made this mistake last year. We had seasonal passes, and I was so hungry for WDW, that I planned to go the first weekend the blackout was lifted. But I mis-read the dates, so we were 2 days too early.

Our passes just kept kicking out. A CM came over, and their readout said something that let them know that they were seasonal. The CM just said "Seasonal blackout lifts two days from now" and handed back our passes.

I did go get my parking fee back, since we couldn't stay!

The turnstile reads the tickets. If you turn around and watch the next person come through you will see that there is actually an LCD screen which states what kind of ticket they have. I saw my DH walk through, his even reported that his AP was purchased with a AAA discount!
it read something like:

FL Seasonal AP
AAA Disc.
Adult

COOL!!! This gives me an idea for a scavenger hunt. The participants would have to tell me what was shown when their parkmate went through the turnstile.
