Blackened Catfish - served over pepper jack cheese grits, topped with smoked tomato compote, and drizzled with a balsamic glaze $16.99

Anyone had this? Can you review it for me? It sounds very good but I can't be sure. :confused3 Thanks!

I had it for lunch on a trip earlier this year. It's really good. The catfish is spicy but not overly so and the grits are incredible.

I have an ADR for the coral reef in October and will be ordering this again.

It can be quite spicy, so if you don't like the heat you may wish to ask for it lightly blackened. I thought this was really good (I have had it a couple of times.) The flavors are a nice compliment to one another, but again watch the spices.

I had it and thought it was one of the best ways to eat catfish. A definite thumbs up :thumbsup2

I've had it before and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sometimes the "blackened" designation is just another way to hide the true flavor and nature of food, but as yourgoingagain? says, this version is not too spicy and with each part of the dish combining to make a better whole. The cheese grits help slow the heat of the blackening and provide structure for the smoky taste of the fish and the piquancy of the tomato compote and balsamic glaze. The latter adds just a touch of sweetness, as well. As is the case with catfish, it's a sweeter fish than many others, so the blackening serves it well. I ate every bite of it (and my veggies!), so the portion seemed perfect to me. I highly recommend this dish. :thumbsup2

I'm sold! Thanks for the replies. It was the only thing on the menu that really captured my attention. Coral Reef doesn't rate well with a lot of folks here at the DIS but the aquariums make this restaurant worth a try. I've decided to take my mom when we go in February. It'll be her 1st time at WDW!

Hope it's there when you go! My nephew LOVES Mahi Mahi and it wasn't on the menus before we left. When we got there, he about flipped out because it was there and he was just SO excited about it. So, the menus do change, just to give you a heads up.

I loved mine! The blackening was not as spicy as I have had elsewhere but it was very good! The grits were also two thumbs up. If you enjoy catfish and don't mind a little spice then this is the one for you! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Anything with catfish and grits has to be good :teeth: Blackened is my favorite way to eat fish.

I completely agree!!

I'm so glad I found this thread. We're going in August and I was hoping for something good to choose at Coral Reef. Now I'm wondering if I should make 2 ADRs!!
