I am almost certain I didn't get charged anything extra when we were in DL Sept 09. You might want to call your cell provider and confirm though.

Blackberry BBM uses data as opposed to voice or text services. Even though it uses very little, if you BBM quite a bit it can add up. Data charges vary but can be as high as 10$ per megabyte. You can get a data saver package, call your provider and ask. Some plans perhaps include data roaming.

Bell offered me 1$ per megabyte, at a cost of 10$.
