Just put a roast on and added the black truffle salt from the spice and tea shop. :cloud9:

Just thought I'd share with a group of people who would understand the yum factor! :lmao:

Truffle salt is the only way I can get my 6 year old DD to eat any vegetables at all! She loves it.

Delicious!!! We love it on homemade mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, steak. . . the possibilities are endless!!

I use A LOT of my Florida Sunshine, too! It really adds flavor to cooked veggies. I also use it in my chicken salad, yum!

Everyone is making me hungry!! Exactly where can you find the black truffle salt? Sounds especially yummy on scrambled eggs as PP mentioned.

Inside the Disney Kitchen Store At DTD(adjacent to Earl of Sandwich), they have devoted one corner to spices, salts, rub, teas etc.

It's here that you can get small packets of different seasonings.

The black truffle salt is incredible.

You get a small package for 5 or 6 dollars.

Be smart.....buy more than one.

This stuff disappears quickly in our house..

Just smell the plastic kg and you will be hooked.

I tried black truffle salt and it made me very, very sick. So, be aware some people might react like I did.

We were just at the little shop in Downtown Disney on Friday and that same company now has powdered cheese toppings (i.e. Cheddar, Bleu, etc). Some new teas also.

We're having Breakfast for Dinner tonight and I'm excited to try the black truffle salt on my scrambled eggs!

The DD store is amazing. They have such an interesting selection of spices and teas. My favorites are the black truffle salt and the Florida Sunshine (a mixture of sea salt, lime, lemon and orange zests, green peppercorns and rose petals). I tried the adobo seasoning in my chicken mole and I thought that it tasted exactly like the (cheaper) Adobo seasoning with Cumin that I buy at Kroger. I can't wait to visit the store again!

Ok, now we have to try it on popcorn! :thumbsup2

I want to get the FL Sunshine next time I'm there. It smells fantastic.

We bought the Hickory salt and one other. Michael uses them when making ribs. We Also got the Bakers Secret. Yum! Love it on ice cream, muffins, waffles, cookies, popcorn, etc. It's sweet but not overpowering. Good stuff.

What is the Bakers Secret? I don't remember seeing that. Is it a topping for baked goods or do you add it to the batter before baking?

I'm using the Applewood Smoked Sea Salt tonight in my cooking. It smells great! We also love the black truffle salt among others... I love the Spice & Tea Exchange!! During our last trip we finally broke down and bought one of the Himalayan Salt Blocks. I used it this past weekend at a party we went to and served some soft cheeses on it. Everyone loved it and kept asking about it. I'm excited to try it heated or cooled for other things as well.

It comes in a grinder, and you can get refills (just like the FL Sunshine). It's all the yummy stuff that goes into baked goodies in one grinder. Nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate chips, etc. It's delicious! I put it in the waffle batter once I fill the iron, grind it on top of uncooked muffins, top ice-cream with it, put it over popcorn, etc.

I'm looking forward to checking out that area in May. I've been doing alot of cooking and love to try new spices.

Okay, SOLD!!! I'm definitely going to buy Bakers Secret when I visit next month. I can't wait to try it on popcorn, that sounds wonderful!
BTW, I sprinkled the Black Truffle salt on my scrambled eggs last night (I had cooked them with a little sharp cheddar cheese) and they were wonderful.

I am now going to reveal my ignorance of all things food-y that don't come out of a takeout carton.

For the truffle salt aficionados out there, what makes it so awesome? Based on this thread, I'm really tempted to get some when I'm at WDW before PCC 3.0, but I'm curious -- what does the truffle component add to the salt?

OK, I'll go one step further -- I'm assuming that to make truffle salt, salt is somehow infused (if that's the right word) or mixed with truffles?

Thanks,
Dave

Truffles are one of the world's great tastes. It imparts a rich, musky flavor into food. They're very expensive, at least the "real" ones grown in France and Italy but they're also very powerful so an economical way to get that flavor into foods is to use the shavings in salts and oils.

The market is being flooded by cheap chinese truffles which are a sad comparison to the French and Italian truffles so be careful if you ever decide to buy an actual truffle. The Italian white truffle will always be labelled tuber magnatum and is wildly expensive. The black Perigord truffle will always be labeled tuber melanosporum and the summer truffle is labeled tuber aestivum.Avoid like the plague all else.

Yes, they're very expensive but they also go a long way. If you have a group of like minded friends, why not chip in and buy one and try it out?

I was not smart, Cynthia. I bought some a year ago the past December (aka the year of Podcast Cruise 2.0) and loved the stuff. And the dumb part was that I only bought one bag.

I was not smart enough to remember THIS December to go to Downtown Disney and buy more. I will not be making the same mistake in May, October or December THIS year. :rotfl2:

I like adding it to my scrambled eggs, too. And my baked potato. And my polenta...
