Black Rapid Strap

Thanks for the info...YesDear, so even with the strap screwed into the tripod hole, I could still easily attach the quickrelease plate for my tripod to the camera? What does the QR plate screw into? Sorry, I'm a little confused...I just didn't want to have to be unscrewing the strap from the camera bottom in order to use the tripod.

you would have to unscrew it to put on a tripod.

Quoted from her post...hope that clears it up.

You can't attach a qr plate and the RS4's connector at the same time. You have to unscrew the strap from the camera, screw in your qr plate and mount on the tripod.

Some good info here, thanks! An RS4 is definitely on my "to-buy" list for before our next trip. :) Now to hunt down the best deal, I am notoriously cheap...!

If you are using a Bogen QR plate you can screw that into the bottom of your camera then screw the BR strap to the bottom of the QR plate. It has been a while since I have used Bogen QR plates but I think they have a screw hole in the bottom or you could use the triangular tab on the screw on the plate.

I use RRS plates and they have the screw hole in the bottom.

I hope that helps!

Thanks I misread the post adding to my confusion.

Thanks Anne. I don't think I would like doing that. In fact, I could just see me getting butter fingers and dropping the camera or something while unscrewing the strap to attach the QR plate.

My Bogen has 3 extra holes next to the triangle thing thst screws the screw into the camera bottom. But none of these extra holes have threads for accepting another screw and it doesn't look deep enough to accept a screw. I think I'll just stick with my Optech as it works for me and is comfortable. Thanks for the help!:goodvibes

Since Blackrapid is a small company that only sells to a small amount of companies, pricing is going to be about the same.

here is a list of dealers right from thier website:

I got mine from Adorama thru bing.com and got cash back of about 10%. That was the cheapest way to go...

I do love mine by the way, I just wish they would include instructions and have a quick release plate for a tripod

I just checked my ReallyRightStuff camera plates for Canon 30D, 450D, and 70-200 f/4, all of them have auxiliary threaded holes.

Quick question. When you use this, do you also carry a bag? I am looking for something new to carry my camera around in. I purchased the Crumpler 5MDH, and I don't like it. I took it hiking and it killed my shoulder, even with an attached shoulder pad. I was considering the Lowepro Slingshot, but don't particularly like backpacks. I really like the idea of the Blackrapid strap, especially since the neckstrap hurts after a while, but I am concerned about protecting the camera, especially on rides. How do you handle that? Or, am I being overly protective since it is really new? :)

Just came back from WDW after using my RS-4 there for the first time. I also carried a backpack (which I DON'T recommend if you can help it). I loved the RS-4 and it made a huge difference in being able to carry the camera all day without it killing your neck. When on rides (I mostly carried my camera out to try and take pictures on rides) I either had it up snapping shots, or I held it in my lap. However, be cautious when you ride a few of the rides where the safety bar comes down to you when you board that it doesn't smack your camera in the process (like Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan's Flight, and especially Buzz Lightyear).

Couldn't recommend the Black Rapid strap more. It's just fantastic :thumbsup2!

Very glad for another positive review. I wore mine around some this weekend and it was really comfy and very convenient. I still have a messenger bag that I'll need to carry an additional lens and some other miscellaneous junk in, but I'm thinking that if it gets too cumbersome to use while wearing the RS-4, that's what DH is tagging along to WDW for, right?? ;)

So my stocking stuffer arrived today. :goodvibes However, I can't quite figure out how to connect it to my camera. :confused3 Do I just connect it to the bottom of my camera where I would attatch my tripod? If so is it really safe to carry my D-80 only attatched at one point? I would hate for my camera to crash to the ground because it isn't attatched to the strap properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!:worship::worship: Thanks, Cheryl

Yes...it gets connected to the tripod connector. Although I don't have one yet (on my Christmas list as well), most folks on here claim it securely fastens as long as you use the Black Rapid connector.

Hope this helps

Used mine today. No problems. Just make sure the rubber seat is seated well!

It fits securely on your camera, I have used mine many times with no issues. Enjoy it:thumbsup2

LOVE my Black Rapid Strap! I've had it for about a year and a half now and it stays securely attached to my camera tripod hole. Now that they have the newer connectors, I think its almost impossible for it to come loose. My old connector clasp came loose a few times, thankfully when I was holding the camera in hand (taking it out of the bag usually) and I was a bit unnerved to just let it "dangle" from the strap for quite some time afterward. But with the new connector clasp--no worries! Enjoy your R-strap! :)

I just got their newest strap on Tuesday and have to say that it is great. I just had the opportunity to put it to the test on Thursday and it held my camera quite well, for part of the time I had it attatched to my gripped 5D Mark II with the new 100mm Macro L on it and the rest of the time it had the 24-70 f/2.8 on it. have to say that it was very convenient and more comfortable than a regular neck strap. Enjoy!

I have the RS-7 and half the time, it's attached to the included attachment ring and half the time it's attached to my Bogen quick-release plate ring. I haven't had much concern about it falling off (it'd take a few spins) but I haven't fallen head over heels in love with the strap yet. I'm still making up my mind...

OK...I consider myself to be fairly intelligent so why did it take me about 30 minutes to figure out how to set this strap up :rotfl:
