I have been looking at store ads for upcoming black Friday deals. I think they are not that good this year. I bough my son the Xbox one last week at a better deal then is going to be offered at all the sales I can see coming up for black Friday. Has anyone looked and thought this year the sales are not that impressive?

Just depends on what you are looking for IMO.

Some amazing deals on TVs (I don't need one).

The only two I'm keeping my eye on are the IPad Mini 2 at Target with a $100 gift card and Straight Talk is already offering a reconditioned IPhone 5s for $350.

Agree...and even the tvs aren't that great. I got a better tv deal 2 weeks ago after my former BF tv deal from 6 years ago died (and it's now a Samsung for the price of the generics on Black Friday - wasn't gonna make the same mistake of generic again)...I also got a better laptop deal on Veteran's Day (a Dell with Intel i-3 core and 1 TB space). In fact, I'd say early November is now the time for the best deals in November (and then probably a week or 2 after Thanksgiving for the best December deals - long enough for certain stores to panic if they didn't do enough selling BF weekend)...

But I am finding the "free" bonus cash is fun to use with the BF stuff if you stay in the price range. Sears gave me a bonus $20 for this week, so I have a free superhero Lego set coming to my house soon. Kohl's gave me a free $10, so I'll snag something there in that range that's on my list for gifts. I think I also have $10 to LL Bean that needs to be used. That's still where you can make out BF, but in only little ways...

Can you share the details of your xbox 1 deal?

Yes I too think the deals are not as good. However it may just be that we are not looking to buy much.

I've noticed all the coupons for Toys R Us and Barnes and Noble now exclude Lego. Last year I got amazing deals on the larger sets. Now the best deal I'm finding is Target's Red card 5% off. I'm hoping to get in on the Target gift card 10% off and purchase the Legos with that, but of course run the risk of them being out of stock by then. I'm thinking the new Lego Minecraft sets are going to be gone super fast.

Uh oh. I told my mom to get the First Night Lego Minecraft set for my DD. I got her the last Micro world. I don't think she knows about the new sets so at least she won't know what she's missing : )

Lots of good deals on movies and games that we are looking for....plus a few other items that we want.

Hopefully we can get most of our stuff online.

I think the prices are better than other years, or maybe it could be we have more cash from cheaper gas, I don't know.

I'm also sitting on a stash of freebies:
$30 at Kroger for home furnishings/toys
$22 at CVS
$7 at Walgreen
$58 at Meijer for anything from MPerks rewards(we just redeemed $63 2 weeks ago)
$87 at Sears/KMart from the TV deal a few months ago
$60 for small business Saturday from AMEX(3-$10 credits, 2 AMEX cards)
We are estimating $60-75 in Kohls cash as we are planning on buying a sweeper and a few toys.
$25 in RUE 21 cash off anything after Christmas

The straight up prices may not be as cheap, but figure in the additional discounts and future rewards and the deals this year seem much better than usual.

I think that there are so many sales nowadays that BF sales don't seem as extreme as they used to. In my case, we don't really need any of the hot items, whatever they are. We will pick up some cheap DVDs and maybe some clothes.

I have bought dishes recently that aren't much higher than the anticipated sales and a steam cleaner at Costco that I have not seen cheaper anywhere else. There have been some good TV sales but we bought one during Super Bowl sales one year that seem to be a similar prices.

That's where I'm at too. I haven't seen a ton that I'm excited for... There are a few movie and CD deals that I'm ordering for small gifts for the kids and Penneys has a couple of things I need for the house at good prices, but I haven't seen any must-get big ticket deals. We aren't in the market for new gaming systems, TVs, or anything like that, though.

Today ToyRUs had a "oreview" Black Friday for Rewards members - supposed to be an early one for us to shop the Black Friday deals. I wasn't at all impressed with what they had "on special". I'm guessing I'll just be looking to load discount codes and coupons to get better prices on what I want.

I used the TRU 15% off coupon twice and my DD used it once on Lego sets this week. I got another one in my inbox this morning. Seems there's no sales on Legos this year so I figured it was the best I was going to do. All Target's toy coupons exclude Legos, Frozen and the Transformer Stomp and Chomp.

I've been paying super close attention to prices and so far have managed to grab the stuff I was eyeing for BF for BF prices or better. I may not even need to go out this year.

OP here. I got the Xbox one with the 2 videos included (Assassins Creed) for $349 but I also got for free the Skylander's Swap force for Xbox one which retails for $75 and includes a few figures. My son wanted the Skylander's so it worked out great. I got it at Toys R Us and had to go a few times because they were sold out but finally had it.

:cheer2: You did get a good deal!
