black friday-be afraid, be very afraid

so i kept my holiday goal of 'kicking back' (stayed in my pj's all day, cooked just for me, dh and the 2 kiddles, got the tree up and decorated)-by 7'sh dh and i both succumed to a 'turkey coma' and crashed out on the sofa. sounds good huh? well around midnight i woke up and could'nt get back to sleep so i started watching old re-runs on nick at nite, dh joins me at about 1 and we start watching the stuff we had tivo'd earlier in the evening-INCLUDING all the black friday ads.....

so at 4:50 a.m. i decide to see what all the fuss is about and trot over to my local superwalmart (only about 3 minutes away) in time to see 'the running of the bulls'-ALL THESE NUTSO PEOPLE climbing on top of each other and over shopping carts to get 'deals' that were still sitting in huge piles (the store kept re-stocking) when i left at 6:30. now i can fathom the folks who wanted the 'limited supply' items (our ads said store had 'at least 15' of some electronics) behaving irrationaly, but realy-is it worth a compound fracture to get an $18 easy bake oven for $10?????

i was blown away by the insanity of (mostly) women running down store aisles and grabbing arm loads of items that were only marked down a couple of dollars from the regular prices. according to the clerk who rang me up 'this years pretty good so far, 30 minutes down and no fist fights in electronics or toys'

i will confess that i did get a few items, but there was nothing i was going to endanger life or limb over (i know dd will love her 2 foot tall bratz dolls but no way was i going to get into a wrestling match over it).

so fair warning-if you are going to venture out today-wear knee pads, shin guards, steel toed boots-and forego a shopping cart....it's every (wo)man for himself

we saw a four car wreck right outside the mall enterance. people are driving more recklessly to get to those deals too!

I was at Walmart at 4:30 this morning. I was surprised by how few cars were there. I price matched 2 Game Boy Advance SPs from Circuit City (didn't want to go near that store) for $49.99. They let me get them out of the case at 4:30 to avoid the mad chaos at 5 but I couldn't pay for them until 5. There was a small line at the 24" Bratz and V-Smiles which grew larger by5. But everyone was very friendly and were handing each other the items they needed. It was clear that Walmart had plenty to go around. I was out of there by 5:10. I got my Easy Bake Oven without a crowd. Then I went over and waited for Target to open.(I stayed in my car until they opened the doors.) It seemed more crowded than Walmart but I had more to get there. The toy section was a little hard to get thru. I got everything I wanted from them rxcept the V-Rocker which I bought earlier in the week and will go back tomorrow to price adjuct. It was a very pleasant experience.

I had a pleasant experience at Target. People were nice, and orderly. I guess I don't live in an area where people have knock down drag outs over electronics.

barkley~ Funny post!

My alarm went off at 4:15 am this morning... I got up and said, "I can't believe that I'm getting up for this &*%^!" I thought DH was totally out, but I heard him chuckling. I went to DD's room and told my mom that is was time to get up.

Anyway, we arrived at the mall just as JCPenney was opening. The store was busy, lines were long, but people were well behaved. Macy's was having a good sale. There was a terribly loud and annoying woman standing behind me in Macy's telling everyone about her parenting "technique" vs. her friend's "technique". Guess which was better? It took a lot of restraint on my part to not tell her to shut up. I couldn't take it anymore, so we left the mall at almost 9.

As I was driving home, my mom said, "Well, we did well." I said, "Mom, how is that? Everything that we bought is for ourselves, we didn't buy one single gift for anyone else!" She burst out laughing.

We got home, put the bags in the foyer, sat in the living room and fell asleep while we were talking.

We had fun though.

I went to Target aruond 9:30-I wasn't planning on it, but saw the Millenium Falcon Transformer for $15-I paid $35 at TRU.
So since Target isn't out on the highway, nowhere near the malls, I decided to chance it.

The lot was full, but I got a spot right away-they had tons of the Transformers-so I picked that up, the Barbie ATM for $15 that I also wanted-picked up a 9 inch portable DVD player that I was sure was going to be gone-they had plenty-and got a ton of DVDs for $3.98 and $5.98-the only thing I wanted that they were sold out of was a Polar Express DVD for $5.98.

It was actually nicer than shopping on a regular Saturday because they had every single register open, so the lines never had more than 2 people on it that I could see.
I'm glad I went-I'll be hitting TRU next week to return the Transformer I bought there.

Eh, maybe I'll head out to Target tonight after I get my tree. I want to see some of the other things Maddy wants for Christmas.
