Is there anyway to make black food coloring, or am I stuck with dark purple bats? Thanks
Tara

I think Wilton makes a black food colouring. Actually I'm pretty sure I have some of it. It tends to come out as more of a charcoal than a deep black (for me anyway).

Rich dark colors are really tough. I presume this is for tomorrow?

My only suggestion would be to hit a craft store or the craft section of a WalMart where they have the cake decorating supplies and get some paste or gel food coloring, and not the drops.

I had the worst time making black last year, and I think I actually ended up putting a few drops of dark red in it too, do darken it up.

Good Luck, and I hope someone more knowledgeable comes along with better advice...

There is a black food "paste" type coloring that comes in black...Wilton makes this and I've seen it in Wal-Mart or a store that sells cake decorating supplies. I've also found that when wanting "black" items, using chocolate icing works the best when adding black food coloring paste.

Purple and red?????

or just dump em all together!

I just used mine today! The color is called coal black and let me tell you it is pretty black! :) The company that makes it is called Chefmaster. It is gel base color. I got mine at a cake decorating shop and it was about $2.00 for the 1 oz jar. Hope this helps and now I need to go eat my black devils food cupcake ;)
