BLACK BEARS living in our area!!!

I know our blackberry bushes have green berries just starting on them.. some are medium size but none are near ready for picking.

We've had some pretty hot weather here already.. First it was on and off - and then for well over a week (80's and 90's).. Don't know if that would ripen them up sooner or not.. If they're not ripe, then he/she is just wandering around looking for something else to eat, I suppose - which I would prefer NOT be ME!!! LOL..:rotfl:

I lived in Hudson, WI close to St Paul , MN and we had one wandering around in our neighborhood last week :scared1:...we're transplants from Toledo, Ohio and are just starting to get used to seeing deer and white squirrels in our residential area and now bears????!!! I love wildlife, but geez...:lmao:

I have friends near Spooner and they said they saw a cougar..or maybe it was a mountain lion. The brown big kitties that look so sweet but would probably tear your face off....have you heard that rumor?

We've had the same type of weather. I only took notice to the bushes when we were swimming at the local lake last week. :) I"m sure it wont be you he/she will be eating.. bear attacks aren't common. Most are very afraid of humans. I know ours ran as soon as it hear our voices.

here is a list of fatal bear attacks.. as you can see they aren't common at all http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America

I live in the foothills of Colorado. Bear are so plentiful, many towns have ordinances on using bear proof garbage cans. My mother backs onto a golfcourse here and looked out her window and saw a bear sauntering down the 3rd fairway. Must have wanted to use the women's tees.

Mountain lions are also plentiful.

I saw a coyote in the neighbor's front yard. And we live in a subdivision. This coyote had wandered up the cul-de-sac. Saw another one just last week sauntering alongside the highway.

I have had foxes sunning in the backyard. A red fox had kits under another neighbor's deck and a silver fox used to sun in the back yard of another.

You can't keep fish in your backyard ponds because the herons, hawks and eagles will thank you for providing them an easy dinner.

We have two huge owls that nest in the trees around our houses. They scare the daylights out of you when they swoop from rooftop to rooftop with their huge wingspan barely over your head.

Do NOT have outdoor kitties around here. The wildlife will thank you for the easy meal.

People three doors down opened their front door to find a rattler sunning on their front porch.

Racoons, skunk, mice and those hated bunnies are also around. Bunnies are cute until they eat several hundred dollars worth of annuals you just planted and for dessert, chowed down on your nice, luscious lawn. And the neighborhood stinks for a few days as people spray down their yards with fox urine.

Deer are abundant. In the fall, a treat is to head up to Rocky Mountain National park to hear the Elk bugle.

We love all the wildlife! Well, we could do without all the prairie dogs and the plague they sometimes carry.

I haven't heard about that, but Spooner is quite aways from here further up north so I wouldn't doubt it.

This is a video taken a few weeks ago in my dad's neighborhood out in British Columbia. I go and visit every year and pray that I do not encounter a bear while strolling down the street. Especially scary in the video is the part where the bear wanders up to the front door of one of the houses. Can you imagine walking out the door to go grocery shopping and being confronted by a bear on your front step!

When we saw "our bear" we opened the back door to let our dog out to pee... so yes I can imagine walking out my door and confronting a bear! Neither my dog (who was all of 25pounds) or the bear noticed each other :confused3 they were 3 feet away from each other too. Only when we tried to get the dog back inside did the bear take notice to any of us. We also have turkey's, deer, LOTS AND LOTS of blue jays and cardinals this past year too, someone reported seeing a mnt lion not far from my home with a cub. Thankfully they haven't come to visit me! I think I'd be more afraid of those than the bear.
