Last trip there were a lot of posts about little bugs (called no-see-ums) that were bothering a lot of people at sunset leaving very itchy bites. The rumor at the time was that Disney was trying not to spray for environmental reasons but it was getting pretty annoying. Does anyone know it there have been any problems recently at either the parks or the resorts and should we be worried about packing insect repellant in late January?

Don't know how it will be in January, but just got back on Wednesday from a one-week trip and didn't have any bug problems at all (I saw one mosquito, but that was it)

Wow - maybe that is what I had gotten bitten up with when we were there in November. My legs & ankles were raw from scratching them. After sitting out on our patio at the YC for 2 nights I had bug bits all over my legs. I did see some mosquitoes, but not as many as the bites I had. They could have been from these no-see-ums I guess.

Mosquito and No See Ums are usually gone in January...they do not like the cold and make a hasty retreat till about March or April when the dawn and dusk hours are warmer.

Enjoy!

I was there in November and they left flyers in our room(ASMU) to say to cover up at dusk cause of these bites and horse encefalites(sorry bad speller) the letter was from the health department. I got bit a few times but went to the restort gift shop and bought a bottle of Off that worked great. Of course it cost about 8 bucks..I think it was that much because of the Pixie Dust in it......anyhow......it stopped futher atacks. In the letter it did say that the all Disney property was being sprayed to combat these pests. I always laugh when I read on the bottle of repleant "treats noseeums" I wonder how many people have ever seen these bugs...just a thought. Go prepared get a bottle of repelant from home and save a few bucks.

I just posted a similar question about our stay at the Poly in December '01. We thought those bugs were sand fleas, but maybe they were no se ums.

We will bring some Off with us. We have plenty to combat the mosquitos here in MN. I checked the bottle, and just like Disney753 said, the lable says it combats no see ums.
