My DS will be turning 13 while we are in Disney World are there special things that the resorts do for Birthdays? We'll either be at BC or Poly on the morning of his birthday. Thanx for any advise :wave2:

Sometimes people report surprised for special occasions. My advise is that if you want something special for the birthday child to arrange and pay for it yourself.

There are lots of people celebrating a special occasion when they are at WDW and they can't do something for everyone. If you go with that attitude you will truly be surprised if they do something for your child.

safetymom: You must have misunderstood why I was asking that Question. I really was not expecting somthing for nothing I was just wondering if when we checked in if the resorts themselves would have something I could pay for kindof like a birthday party at mcdonalds. Im sorry I didnt make myself clearer I will try harder in the future:crazy:

mimimom, just didn't want to see you disapointed. You could always call ahead of time to the resort.

I would definitely have it noted on your reservation about his birthday. You will likely get a special phone call or card from the hotel. I don't know about other types of things that are available.

We stayed at WL in Jan 2003 for DS first stay on property and his 10th bday. We noted it on the reservations and received nothing. I had made several PS for bday meals and he recieved gobs of attention from that as well as his bday button he wore all around the parks! I had a regular Illuminations cruise booked and when we parked under the bridge our captain had the entire bridge sing Happy Birthday to him! This fall when DH & I went alone it was our anniversary and the CR left a balloon and a stuffed Pinnochio doll. You just never know.....if we stay on site again with any of our kids celebrating a birthday I would reserve something special for the room.

Go to town hall in MK and ask for a b-day button. It will say "today is my birthday" and it may et him nothing or it may get him a few free desserts or cm's wishing him happy bday. good luck!!:o

When we go to WDW, I always let my hotel's front desk know what day is my child's birthday (we are usually there for someone in our family's b-day!)
The front desk will ask you their favorite character and send a card to your room. One time, we even got helium balloons and a 5x7 of Cinderella.......signed IN INK!!!!!

Definitely go to town hall in MK for a b-day button. In Epcot, I think you can get them to the left of Spaceship Earth in Guest Relations. At the AK we just told the CM at the gate and she had some in her pocket. We never got one at MGM but I'm sure they would have them there too.

Also, let every server in every restaurant that day know it is their b-day as you will get a song and free dessert complete with sparklers! Very festive.

Last year we were at the Poly in a lagoon view concierage room -- that we got as a free upgrade! I had booked a garden view concierage room and was pleasantly surprised to see the upgrade. I think it was due to the fact that we were celebrating two birthdays during our stay -- mine and my DSs. I had also developed a rapport with Tara, who helped me with dinner reservations, etc.

For my birthday, which was the day we checked in, I received a signed photograph of Snow White as well as a palm frond basket filled with all kinds of Hawaiian goodies. I was really surprised since I had stressed to Tara that I didn't want anything for my birthday. It was wonderful to spend our first evening sitting on the patio eating my macademia nuts while watching the fireworks.

For my DS's birthday, I had ordered some special things from Pixie Gifts and asked for Tara to arrange a bouquet of balloons that I could decorate the room with. The hotel surprised us with a great Mickey Mouse cake, noise makers, hats, and a certificate with Tinker Bell on it. Oh, and a card from Mickey, too! What a great surprise. I had heard that these things could happen but didn't mention them to my DS in case it didn't happen. I had brought along a lot of other surprises and decorated the room myself. This thrilled my DS!

I know that you can order cakes with the help of the hotel staff. They will also be happy to help arrange whatever you need and charge it back to your room. I had special packages in the room for both of my DSs that included lanyards. These were all charged back to my room. Happy planning!
