I will be celebrating my birthday while we are in Florida. We will not be onsite, and I wondered if any of the offsite restaurants (Universal or Disney area) offer specials for dining with them on your birthday. Locally, some restaurants give you a free entre or dessert and since we will be eating many meals out, I might as well get something for free or reduced price if I can. Thanks for your help.

Most restaurants do something (usually a piece of cake, etc) for Birthdays. I think the real question is what type of restaurant to do you want to go to for your birthday? Do you want to splurge? Someplace nice that's good with kids? Romantic? I know plenty of places off the beaten path that you might enjoy. Let me know what you're thinking and maybe I can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply Pete, generally speaking we would be looking for a family style restaurant.Olive Garden, & Outback are our favourites, but I hear good things about Jungle Jim's, Steak & Shake, and I am already planning one meal at DTD RFC. I am really just looking for ideas for a casual birthday meal, in an atmosphere suitable for 7 & 9 yr old children. I am considering buying some gift certificates for a few of the restaurants so I can "prepay" some of our meal costs. (Connections vouchers won't apply to us because we are only spending one day at DW).We will be staying at Orange Lake or somewhere similiar, and will use the kitchen facilities for breakfasts and occasional lunch or dinner. Suggestions near SW/IOA/US would be appreciated.

AVOID STEAK AND SHAKE AT ALL COSTS!!! It is the most inconsistent restaurant in Orlando, and you never know what your going to get. The Olive Garden on Hwy 535 is very good, as is the Tony Roma's in the shopping plaza right up the street from it. Personal favorites are Landry's (steak and seafood)...it's nice, but not stuffy, and can have really long lines (good to get reservations or go early). Landry's is fairly popular with many locals as well. Pebbles Restaurant is often overlooked by tourists, even though it's in the same area as Goodings (across from Downtown Disney Hotel area. Prices are reasonable, and the food is excellent. I would definately consider a birthday dinner in either of these two places.

We are eating there on my birthday- the night before our cruise. Why there? Because DH and DS LOVE the Dolphins and I got them gift certificates for the one night we are in orlando. I wonder if they would do anything for my birthday?

I haven't tried Dan Marino's (didn't even know he had a restaurant here...LOL). Don Shula's over at the Dolphin is awesome, and they do give you cake on your b'day :) Let me know how it works out.
