Birthdays at Disney?

Just wondering, if I am planning my trip to celebrate my birthday AND finally graduating with my 2 degrees, but can only go spring break because I student teach, will they let me "celebrate" early? I went back to school after my divorce and the last five years have been gruelling ... school, work, DS(6), etc. Would it be inappropriate to say that I am celebrating these events when making my reservations?

Not really sure what you mean by this. Disney doesn't really do any thing special (outside of a birthday button) for birthdays/anniversaries etc. Definitely not inappropriate to mention you accomplishments, you worked hard-you should celebrate. Most cm's and waitstaff are very nice and will definitely congratulate you. Restaurants may bring you a free cupcake but I think that's about it. Of course you can purchase any thing you want to help you celebrate.

The reason I asked is that when (1) I was on my honeymoon and (2) when it was my DS's birthday, each time we received a little pixie dust and had small gift baskets waiting for us after coming back from the parks congratulating us.

Sure, why not? I'd estimate that about 98% of people who wear buttons saying, "It's my birthday" aren't really having a birthday that day...why not you, too?

Disney does almost nothing anymore for birthday people, except wish them a "Happy Birthday." They sing, too. Almost every single meal I sit down for, I hear them singing "Happy Birthday" to someone.

I wouldn't wear a pin even if it was my birthday, because I don't want to have to do the chit-chat thing with strangers, but if having them wish you a "Happy Birthday" on a day that really isn't your b-day floats your boat, wear the pin!!!

There are also pins for 1st Time to Disney, if you want to get one of those. My friend got one and many employees asked her how she was enjoying her 1st trip, where she was from, how she liked Florida - that sort of thing.

absolutely acceptable and welcomed. disney policy allows it, so as long as it's something you want to do, you have every right and ability to do so. and yes, some restaurants do more than others as do some CMs.
