Birthday without breaking the bank

Hi! We are taking a family trip in September to celebrate my brother's girlfriend's birthday. Can anyone suggest a hotel nearby the park that is nice but not too expensive? We have a 2 year old and want to be close enough to take a break during the day if he gets tired but do not want to pay $300 a night for a hotel.

Also, does Disneyland make birthday cakes anywhere? I want to get one for my brothers girlfriend as a surprise.

Nice simple map showing hotels around the parks. Important to note that the closest are over near the yellow parallel lines at Entrance Plaza.

You can order a cake if you're dining at a sit-down, but they are spendy! There's also a tiny little cake you can get a sit-down places and bakeries that comes in a tiny treasure box thing (pirate or princess themed) but those are more for kids (though I was told that the chefs said it was sugar free, which is odd to give to a child IMO).

I personally would appreciate something from Haagen Dasz in DTD for my b'day.
