Birthday upgrade to AP question

I have a friend who is taking her 2 year old dd next week. On the last day of their trip, their dd turns 3. They would like to take advantage of the celebrate promotion to get a discount on their dd's first AP on that day.

The rest of the family will be using parkhoppers and upgrading to Deluxe AP's on that same day.

Can anyone tell me if they will need to go to the ticket booth for their dd on that morning to take care of her "free ticket/AP discount" issue, or can they just get her in that morning without paying for a ticket (even though it's her 3rd birthday), and just do the AP with discount at the same time they upgrade their tickets at the AP processing center later that day? They aren't trying to do anything dishonest, they just want to save time that morning, if it's possible.

The consensus seems to be that if they are two (or 9) at the beginning of the trip, they are the same age at the end....meaning they wouldn't need a ticket (or adult ticket in case of 9 yo) once they celebrate a bday on that trip. (make sense so far?) In this case if the third bday is the last day by all means get the free admission and upgrade to an AP. There is nothing sneaky or dishonest about it. I would need to get the bday ticket first.

They can get the bday ticket at Guest Services outside the park......

I would do it before entering the park. Make a nice big deal out of it!

My other reason (besides making a big deal by taking her to the ticket booth or guest services) is that I would end up feeling uncomfortable getting her in as though she were still 2, but then going in for something based on her turning 3...doesn't really seem right, ya know?
