Birthday Question

We will be headed back to WDW June 1st for our annual trip. Staying PORS (DH favorite). Our yearly trips started with a 5th birthday trip for DD who is now 11. That was such a special trip with lots of Disney magic that we were hooked! ......I must put in here that I was taken to WDW for my very first trip for my 5th birthday and I wanted that special trip for my DD, so we took her for her 5th b-day........Well now we have a DS4 with a 5th birthday coming up. I know..he has been to WDW many times but NOT for his birthday and the 5th b-day is coming up....Soooooo time for the 5th b-day trip for my son. Right??? Wrong!!!! DH can't get time off for the week of DS birthday. He did get the week before off...so we booked the trip for that time. We plan to celebrate DS birthday while on the trip but are wondering about the birthday magic you can have while there on your big day. It was so wonderful for my daughter and I would love to have that same magic for my son. How can I find that magic without getting a Birthday Button? I feel guilty getting him one when his true birthday is the week after.

We're heading to DW June 2-9 and will be celebrating DS's 6th birthday and other DS's 3rd birthday. DS will be 6 on June 11 and other DS will be 3 on June 21. We couldn't fit a trip on their actual birthdays so we're having to go a little early. I'm still planning on getting a birthday button on one day for each of them. DS6 will be celebrating at the Little Einsteins character lunch and DS3 will be sharing his birthday with Mickey at CM for dinner. Last trip in 2005, we also were a week early for DS's birthday. We stayed at the WL and they sent him balloons and a card!

We just got back last week and celebrated my DD 6th birthday while there. It was great! We asked the hotel (we were at the GF)to do something for her and what they did was awesome! We were asked what her favorite character was and said Cinderella. They sent up to our room (ON VERY SHORT NOTICE by the way) a solid white chocolate Mickey on a plate surrounded with cookies with a rainbow happy birthday and Mickey holding some edible paper with her name on it, and a signed birthday card and picture from Cinderella. It was beautiful and her jaw nearly hit the floor when she saw it. We also called the GF bakery and preordered a specialty cake with a white chocolate castle and pop-up Cinderella, for her to be delivered to our room after dinner at Chef Mickey's that night. At CM they gave her a cupcake and had Mickey at our table to "sing" happy birthday to her. During the day she wore her button and all the signatures she got from the characters that day also said Happy Birthday, so it will make those autographs different then her others. It was great! I say you tell your hotel so they give you the button anyway. If you want them to send something to your room make sure you specifically say so and give them 48 hours notice. I didn't make it clear enough when we checked in. When we asked again that night they said they needed more notice, but would see what they could do. Well what they did was awesome!! Who cares if it's not technically his birthday no on else needs to know that and you are planning on celebrating while you're there. My DD wore her button on several days while we were there.

I have read about ordering a cake, so I can figure that part out. If I tell them at the desk at check-in that we are celebrating a birthday will they do something, or how do you go about prearranging that stuff? Any advice will be most helpful. Thanks.

The birtday Button is something that you can get at Guest Services at any of the parks. I believe that the resorts may have them as well. My dd is planning to wear hers all week! She's so excited!

The hotel may or may not send up a little free surprise. I have read here on the DIS where some have received a card signed by all of the cahracters and balloons and some guests didn't receive anything. If you want to guarantee that your child receives something then you can prearrange a delivery.

You can get them at your resort. Just mention that your child will be having a birthday at check in and they will give you the button and put your childs name on it. The desk will not automatically do something if you just tell them about your childs birthday as I learned. You can ask them if they do something and if you want them to do it or not. If you don't ask them specifically it won't happen. They say they need 48 hours notice. They will ask for your childs favorite character to send the items from the character. We thought we had requested it, but apparently didn't. We were lucky though when we asked again that evening they were able to make it work. We were also at the GF, so I don't know if it makes a difference or not. I have no idea if what we got is what they usually do or was what they could do on short notice. I actually got the same white chocolate Mickey(that I mentioned in my previous post) and truffles and chocolate covered strawberries the next day with a card from Minnie. We are still trying to figure that one out, as it was not my birthday and we didn't request it. It had to have been a mistake on their parts but a good one! You just need to talk to your front desk and see what they can do for you.

I think it's fine to celebrate on a day other than his actual birthday, especially since you can't get there on his day. I took my son for his 5th birthday and I made him a shirt saying he was celebrating his 5th birthday with the pooh characters on it, and he got a birthday button, and many people, cm's and other guests in the parks said happy birthday to him, and he felt real special. We did the crystal palace for lunch and ordered a small cake and Tigger brought it out to him, and he was in heaven. Plus they gave him a card signed by the 4 pooh characters. The memories are priceless. Have a wonderful time.
