My DSis has a birthday the first day of our cruise. This is the first trip we will have vacationed together in at least 7 years. We own a farm together and have visited WDW solo (2017) because of our responsibilities at home.
Mom came to live with us in 2021 and passed in November into Gods grace. My DSis had a job but gave it up for Mom(covid) and has had me to contend with since I retired 3 years ago. You're right if you think she's extraordinarily patient and giving.
I want to do something special for her birthday on board, this is our first ever cruise. Any help? Thanks in advance!

Some options are spa treatments, rainforest room, alcohol tastings, adult dining, special merch (maybe jewelry?). You can preorder some cute birthday stateroom decorations, I think. I guess it depends on what she likes and what you consider to be “special”.

Just want to mention—“DS” is short for “dear son” on message boards so I was very confused when I first read your message! :) But based on your user name I’m guessing you are talking about your sister?

Also, very sorry for your loss and I hope you have a wonderful cruise!

Thanks, I thought DS looked wrong. Is there any reason to tell our servers at dinner?

I haven’t personally had a birthday on board but I’ve read that they will bring out a special dessert and maybe sing? (Although the singing may be from the before times.) I don’t know if it’s better to let them know ahead of time or just talk to guest services or your servers when you’re on board—hopefully someone with more experience can let you know.

I think you used to be able to get a birthday button like in the parks, but not sure if they are still doing that.

We added birthdays and anniversaries to our reservation and the servers magically knew! They brought out cake for my parent's anniversary and my mom's birthday.

I was on a cruise this past October for my birthday and I think from your cruise card they can tell. The entire day, it seemed like every cast member said happy birthday which was kind of fun!

You can put it in your special requests area. We used to cruise with a family and it was always their daughters birthday. The brought out a dessert and then came around to sing. You can also order a special cake through their gifts site. Or order room decorations through their site.
Since it is the first night go early and let the head server and your server know so they are prepared as the first night can be a bit chaotic.

Our son's birthday is on the first day of our September cruise. We want this to be special, so thanks for all the good info. Since he is a young adult, will they also celebrate in the nightlife areas too?

If he’s 18+ he may go to the adult areas, if he’s 21+ he can have an adult beverage
