Had loads of suggestions for ADRs but whilst we are in WDW I will be celebrating my birthday. :bday: Celebrated my 40th at CP and the server really made it special, more time with the characters, the usual cupcake, card and table confetti.
:cake: DS celebrated a birthday at Sci Fi and they really went to town - singing, larger cake and card.

Both of the experiences were fab but can anyone suggest somewhere different.

Read some not so good reviews of underwhelming 'magical' birthday meal experiences eg Mama Melrose and Le Cellier.

Anyone had good birthday meal experiences???party:

Its great youve had some good birthday experiences but please dont suggest they are guaranteed or expect them at each meal.
Every server/restaurant is different and they can change what they do on different days. So what someone may experience with one server could be so much different during another time/day etc

On the food forums people have commented on some great birthday experiences and others have come to expect them. People have been disappointed when nothing happens and complain. Even though it is something magical and is not something included in your meal.

The only way you can guarantee things is by arranging things yourself.

Just wanted to warn others, who may read your post and think its the norm. :goodvibes

Saying that we have had a good experience at Coral reef when celebrating our wedding. :)

I don't think the PP was saying that they expected anything, just that they have had some great experiences & are now asking if anybody has been anywhere else where they had a good experience OR that they thought would make some where nice/special for a birthday meal?

On a side note I've been to Disney many times and pretty much every time we go its our sons birthday and our anniversary,we where are badges for the whole trip & we have never had a meal where we wasn't given at least a generic cupcake with a candle, and if the birthday was noted on the ressi's then we was given confetti on the table and a card! And we go for 3wks at a time only staying on Disney and eating a TS every day.

We have had fab experiences at Cali grill, Narcoosess, flying fish and Cape may.
The above I mentioned all brought out a huge slab of chocolate cake with a candle and birthday plaque on it!

I have found at pretty much every meal for a child they brought out the cupcakes BUT for DH & I they have brought out our own dessert that we have ordered but decorated it with a chocolate name plaque wishing happy birthday etc and mickey sprinkles :)

Believe it or not Coral reef was one of the nicest they brought us out our desserts with the plaque plus 2 little plastic dolphins that hang off the edge of your cocktail or wine glass very sweet little gift

I have to disagree due to their above comment. :goodvibes

Like I said, just want to point out to others this is not the norm and not something you should expect. :thumbsup2
Its a magical extra, some are lucky and get it every time. Some never get anything and are then disappointed and complain.

I agree with Darthtatty its hit and miss a bit. I've had some fabulous dining experiences especially for our wedding trip. But then at other times (birthdays etc)I've had just normal service at the same places.

My favourite was the Brown Derby - we got a free glass of champagne and a special phone call from Mickey.

We've celebrated several birthdays etc. over the years at WDW and if we want something special we always order it ourselves. There is no way that you can know if a particular restaurant will do something special for you. As has previously been posted a lot of it depends on the individual servers. We've been to CP for dinner and had not so much as a ''Happy Birthday'' from our server! So if your looking for something special I would take care of it before you go. It's very easy to order a cake. There's even a cake thread over on the restaurant board!

I think as well that people say its their birthday/ anniversary when infact its a month away or was a month before. Yes it may be a birthday anniversary trip but perhaps disney are cutting back as with everyone else these days and just give special treats for celebrations when they are actually.
Im probably totally wrong but was just a thought.
Regards a special treat I had a trio of desserts at GFC and a vinylmation of a graduation sitting in the middle!!!

Hi,x

We never used to collect the birthday badges or anniversary ones, until one restaurant actually gave us one!
On that same trip we only wore it that 1 day that was our anniversary and our son wore his only on his birthday!
The next trip we did the same BUT every restaurant asked us if we was celebrating and our son said he was but not until the next wk! We then got told by the server that he was to wear his badge for the whole trip, as he is to celebrate for the whole trip, Brandon won't keep his badge on all the time and often takes it off when it gets too much and every time he has not been wearing it he gets told it's ok to wear it all the time and to celebrate it for the entire trip lol.
I've read many reports of this so I'm not sure wether they are cutting back? I've also read many reports and people saying their birthday isn't until the month after but they are celebrating it on that trip and people still being told to note it on there reservation.

We always get a cake to make sure that the day of the anniversary/birthday is celebrated in a magical way,
But I defiantly think its true that some restaurants go out of their way to make a celebration special and others do nothing ( like not even mention it and wish you a happy birthday ).

Xx
