I just got invited to a neighbor's daughter's birthday party. She's going to be 6. Any gift suggestions? What's the new hot toy? And where can I find it? (If it makes any difference, it will be an evening event, catered, with a live band - I'm not kidding.)

Who is the party for?? The girl or her parents??

I can't help with the gift idea but I am sure somebody will.

I've been to their parties before and for the most part they have been adult schmoozing events. (At the last one, I met some guy from one of those cop shows - sorry, I don't watch too much t.v.) The birthday is just an excuse for the party. But I'll still have to bring a gift. And I want it to be good because I really like their little girl.

we are going to a birthday party today for my six year old niece. I got her a summer filled backpack. I got a backpack and put a beach towel, flip-flops size 2/3, sunglasses, lip gloss. My dd is 7 but its hard to buy presents for other kids because you don't know what they already have.

My little niece loves Polly Pockets that you can dress up in different outfits. She is 7. These are found at Walmart, Target, KMart. Little girls usually like crafty stuff too. Hunter loves to get markers, stamps, decorative scissors etc.
Have fun!

I second the polly pockets. My DD loves them and plays with them all the time. They have a cute pool set.

Any arts and craft items DD got a tea set you had to paint and then bake. She loved it.

since these are the disney boards - how about one of the sweetheart dolls from the disney store online or a large plush? Or a disney movie? maybe an older less popular one she isn't likely to have, or even a live action one like polyania.

Could you ask her parents for a suggestion?

Don't forget the all time girlie favorite - Barbie's! As far as my DD is concerned you can never have too many. The Barbie accesories are hot items too. Barbie corvette or the Barbie pool would be fun too. Neither are very expensive.

I do like the summer beach bag idea too. Great idea! My DD would love that!

My 6 yo dd loves any craft project, any Barbie, most games (someone gave he If you Dare I hate it, but she loves it), anything with a unicorn, any stuffed animal, anything princess, anything Lizzie McGuire, any book. Funny, she and her friends aren't into the Polly Pockets at all.

My neice turns 6 tomorrow. I bought her (and you can find it all at Walmart) Mary Kate and Ashley stuff. I got two Mary Kate & Ashley movies, an outfit (they have their own clothes line at Walmart) a hair brush that was again by Mary Kate & Ashley and their new perfume.

It made a nice package. And best of all I found it all at one place.

Gotta love those twins!

My 6yo wants "Finding Nemo" toys. They must be hot because I was going to [pick up an action figure set I saw at Blockbuster, and now they are out.
Craft things are great as well as new crayons to go with a Finding Nemo coloring book or a sound board book.
Good Luck!

My DD6 is really into crafts and is just getting into sewing. She also loves beginner chapter books like the Junie B Jones series or the Cam Jenson series.

My daughters love the "hello kitty" products that you can get at most smaller toy stores. Also, stuffed animals such as kittens or puppies. I have too many of them, but when my girls get them, they love them. I also second the crafts. I run a brownie troop for 9 6-7 year olds and they all love to craft. Beading sets are great, as are sand art.

Hello Kitty stuff is very popular, you can also find a little assortment of their products at Target. Hamtaro is popular, too. My DD is 5 yrs. old and just loves them. Her little friend's birthday (also 5) was last Saturday and one of the things that we bought for her was a Hamtaro set. She loved it!

It sounds like she has the type of parents that probally buy her the "best and latest" of everything so why not go "retro" with her gift!!

Get her a baby doll that does nothing but can wear newborn clothing!! Then get some clothes second hand for it . Maybe also (depending on price) a stroller

Wow, thanks for all the terrific suggestions. I'll go to the mall tomorrow and see what I can find.

Hi Beachbunny,

We just went to my dear friend's daughter's 7th b-day party last weekend & her wish list was anything Strawberry Shortcake (there are all sorts of really cute accesories) or Mary Kate & Ashley anything. Also the Polly Pockets which everyone has mentioned. I got my friend's daughter a Strawberry Shortcake Rag type doll, a Strawberry Shortcake play set (doll & a table with pretty cake slices on plates), and for the little birthday princess, a really cute backpack/purse made of denim with purple sparkley stuff on it & an emblem of a butterfly on the front. I took the stuffing out & I stuffed it with notepads, gel pens of diff colors, hair stuff, fruity smelling chap stick, a little packet of kleenex & some stickers...you know, stuff a girl needs! ;) All our gifts to her went over really big!

I found the toy items at Target & the neat backpack/purse at Mervyns in the clearance section! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc All the things I stuffed inside the bag, I had at home since I always keep little odds & ends at home in case something comes up that I'm not expecting!

Have fun...sounds like it will be a great party!
