I have a friend in PA that will be turning 91 in a couple of weeks and I was wondering if any of you have any unique gift ides. I'm always sending her flowers and was wondering if any of you have any other ideas. She lives with her daughter and she's not really active but her mind is still sharp. I know she has trouble with arthritis but that's about it.

Magazine subscription? (magazines.com has lots to choose from and you do it all online)
Borders gift card
target or walmart card?
basket with - hand lotion, tea or coffee, paperback, lip balm, candy (sugar free if she has diabetes) and other little things that strike your fancy?
Fruit basket from Harry and David?

Pictures. See if anyone has any old pictures of her with family and friends that they could share with you. You might want to take a new picture of her and her daughter/ other family members, friends, et. and out it in a nice frame. I can remember my dear MIL who died almost five years ago thought that the very best gift we could give her was pictures of her grandkids and children. She had them all over the house, never took any down.

Good Luck!

What about an edible bouquet? These are AWESOME!!! I have sent them several times to my parents and to maybe-someday-inlaws for birthdays & such and they love them. Fruit is REALLY fresh and delicious.

Some ideas I was thinking about for my grandmothers birthday are
a letter opener from the walmart photo center online that you put a picture in
earrings
an address book
carmel coffee

How about Paul Newman...I know that would make me happy if I was 91! It would make me happy at 50 LOL.

When my husband's Gran turned 100, as part of her present ( and for a bit of a laugh ), we gave her a bottle of 'Youth Dew' perfume. She thought it was really funny ...and she liked the scent. :teeth:

My dh's Grandma is 96 and still alert and living in her own home. For Christmas we have gotten her Fruit of the Month gifts. We've also donated money to her church and specified it for a certain use. She REALLY liked that.
One of her son's and his wife give everyone a card saying what animal they donated to Heifer International in their name. I think she appreciates that too.

We gave my Gramps a 1hr-helicopter flight for his 90th BD and he loved it. A year later we gave his older brother for his 95th an airship flight together with Gramps. They both still live in their won homes and are 93 and 97 now. Their mother did at 99 - in an accident!!! So we expect them both to make it to three digits. DW's grannies also both will be 97 this year, but they reside in assisted living.

I don't think Joanne Woodward would be too happy with that. :)

Large Print word search. My Mom is 89 and likes anything in large print. She's not too fond of crossword puzzles, but likes the word searches. If she has a CD player, maybe some music. Big band, spiritual, classical (my Mom loves Charlotte Church). Also - a small box of really good chocolates if she can have it.

In the line of pictures, a friend of mine got, instead of flowers because the gift-giver said she "doesn't do flowers," a throw blanket with a picture of her family that was on the front cover of the local paper when her DH won a state representative seat. Even though the picture was scanned from the newspaper, the blanket came out great.

It was ordered from Clark photo, but other online film labs do them, too.

I think this is a great gift for an older person since older women always seem to be cold.

Postage stamps and a box of greeting cards and stationary. The age group, typically, still loves actual mail- both to send and receive.

I think if you are that old you don't want much. You probably have a million things that they really don't need or even want.
I think old people just like have your company so they can share their thoughts with you and you can share your life with them. This world is always to busy to sit and talk to people, especialy the elderly

My best friend got her great grandma a pair of thong panties and a push-up bra. It was the hit of the party!

For my granddad's 90th birthday I gave him $90 and took him shopping. He loved it. He was a dapper dresser.

For Christmas and birthdays my sister and I used to give him cigarettes!!!! Now you probably couldn't find two more anti-smoking people than me and my sister, but we figured that it didn't make any difference at 93.

Did she model them?

I vote for spending an afternoon with her, maybe looking through old photo albums and listening to her stories.

And chocolate...
