Yesterday my dd and I were invited to a party on Saturday for a little girl who lives a few doors down from us. I went to school with her dad but our kids have never actually met.

Anyway I was trying to come up with a decent gift but since i don't know what she likes and haven't spent time with her it's hard.

Please tell me if you think this would be alright......

I was thinking of getting a $10 gift cert. to Blockbuster and fixing a little bucket or basket with some popcorn and juicy's so she could have movie night with mommy and daddy.

Do you think a 6 year old would enjoy this??? Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks!

Good ideas we have used in the past for our various neices (his and mine) when they were 6 year olds are :
craft kits/art kits,
gift cards to toy stores,
games and puzzles.

I think that is a great idea!!

One year we gave all of our nieces and nephews a $5.00 gift certificate to McDonalds along with their other gift. Everyone LOVED the McD's $$$, and basically ignored the other part of their gift

Polly Pocket Dolls. My kids love them and will play quietly for hours with them. I have only sucked one shoe up the vacuum cleaner so far!

If you do this gift, please give the zipper carrying case. The parents will really appreciate it.

Thanks for the other ideas.

I just hate the thought of going to the store and walking the toy aisle, I always think about how I would feel if my dd received a certain gift and well I end up discouraged (too many pieces, not enough to sit and play a game, etc) I was trying to include mom and dad on this one!!

That's a really good idea especially since you don't know what the child likes.

Why not call the parents and just ask what her interests are or if there is something that she is really into? I have done this often when my kids were little and going to parties.

You would hate to spend a lot of time and effort buying a "doll" gift only to find out she hates "dolls" but loves sports. (Just an example!)
