DS12 (almost 13) just received an invitation to a girl's birthday party - she's turning 13. I'm not sure what an appropriate gift would be - they're friends, but not super close. I have 3 DSs, so need your help! Any ideas?

Based on the responses to the "Mother of the Year" thread - I'd say lots of people think two passes to Hostel would make a great gift! ;)

i would probably go with a gift card to the mall or a store in the mall. do they have a "claires" near you? (jewelry and stuff). a cd is also good. I also like a gift certificate to the local movie theatre, put in a popcorn container with a movie candy.

Target sells iTunes gift certificates for $15, which is great if she downloads music.

For that age, you can't go wrong with anything from Bath and Body Works, or a gift certificate from there.

A fun movie that is out on DVD now is The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.

Target Gift card and something small to go with it like some nail polish, nail file, and a nail buffer or some small travel size stuff from Bath and Body (they have the semi-annual sale going on now!!!). If you have a dollar store stop by there and you could find some cute stuff to put together into a spa kit (bath pillow, spa headband, bath oil beads, etc) and include the Target gift card as well.

Also wanted to add that Giftcards to Starbucks and the like are very popular with that crowd here.

My DD11's best friend is turning 13 tomorrow!

Her party is a sleepover Sat. nite...we're giving her pajamas from Aeropostale...my DD picked them out. She also picked out the same exact pair for herself & will wear them at the sleepover so the girls can match. :)

(We also got her some matching fuzzy socks).

*** Edited....I just read that your child is a DS...sorry.
He probably wouldn't want to give a girl pajamas.

Okay, I'm the mother of a 13 year old girl. Here's what she loves:

1. Bath and Body Works has a new collection that is all food scents...Tiramisu, Chocolate Fondue, etc. They have lotion, bubble bath, lip gloss, etc. Some of it has ever been in the 70% off sale. DD loves that stuff. A Bath and Body Works gift card is also nice.

2. Where do the kids like to hang out/eat? DD would adore gift cards to Sonic and Starbucks.

3. Soft/fuzzy slippers. Old Navy often has cute slippers....DD's favorites are shaped like flamingos.

4. Earrings. (Does the girl have pierced ears?)

5. Lip gloss, lip gloss, lip gloss.

Thanks for all of your replies! I should have mentioned that we live in a fairly rural area, so the nearest malls are about 45 minutes away (one to the south and one to the east). We do have a WalMart and a McDonald's in town, but I'm not sure if a gift card there is "cool" enough. Once DS started middle school, the girls appeared out of the woodwork!! I don't think he knows her well enough (or even pays attention!) re: pierced ears.

I like the idea of either a Target gift card or one to the movies. I know Bath and Body is popular with girls, but DS feels funny about buying/giving that - too personal (?). I just went through this with DS16 shopping for Christmas gifts for girls! A gift card to B&B might work however....

Thanks again for your help!

Yes - that's what scares me! The girls seem to be so aggressive about approaching the boys that it surprised me! My DS is maturing early, so at age 12 is 5'7" and has been a starter on the football and basketball teams (also, not bad looking according to the girls). I think that the biggest surprise is that he actually likes all of the attention - I really didn't think he'd be interested yet. I have a feeling that we'll have many more gift-buying-for-girls opportunities!

I like this thread,LOL my sister is turning 13 in March and reading the post here was helpful, who knows what to get a 13 year old.

A 14 year old boy.... ;)
You beat me to the punch; I was going to suggest something a little different - a 15 year old boy :rotfl:

As the father of a 13 year old girl, I think we are right on.

That and music downloads....
