We are going to WDW 12/1 to celebrate my big girl turning 10! It's a big milestone for her, and one we worried we’d never see. She is disabled and has wheat and tomato allergies. I’ve been looking for a recommendation for a special dinner to celebrate. I was leaning toward ‘Ohana, but it’s hard to get a feel for the allergy part as tomato doesn’t seem to be a common allergen. Any recommendations. I make ADRs in a month.

Welcome!

When you make your reservation you can indicate any allergies.

Where do you think your daughter would enjoy eating? Meeting characters? Princesses? You could do a fireworks cruise or a dessert party instead of a meal.

I think she would like the ‘feast’ feeling of ‘Ohana, which is why I was leaning to there. She is nonverbal and couldn’t care less about princesses. I’m planning Akershus for my YDD another day. Most of the desserts seem to be wheat based, so I don’t really think those would work. They offer the same packaged Gluten free options, and she doesn’t really like dessert anyway. She likes stuffed characters, so maybe Garden Grill?

She loves to eat and dance. Anywhere offer a feast with dancing? Ha!

How about dialing up 407-W-DISNEY and posing the question directly to them? Disney is top-notch when it comes to understanding that all guests should be able to enjoy as much of the experience as possible and makes accommodations whenever and wherever possible. It's quite probable that they have dealt with these allergies before and might even be able to make some excellent recommendations for where to make your reservations.

You might consider Ohana for breakfast. No tomatoes. There are bread and waffles, but also eggs, sausage, bacon and lots of fresh fruit and fruit juice. I am not sure they have gluten-free bread, but there are gluten-free waffles. It has Mickey, Pluto, Lilo, and Stitch and they do a parade around the dining room that kids of all ages can participate it.

Biergarten is such a great suggestion if she likes feasting and dancing! You may also want to consider Spirit of Aloha which is also at the Poly. It's pricier than 'Ohana, but it is a luau, definitely offers a feast and there is a ton of dancing in the show. They also recognize special occasions by asking those celebrating to come onto the dance floor at one point during the show.

Biergarten seats at tables of 8. Unless your party is 8 people, you will be seated with other people. Will that work for your family?

Garden Grill is our favorite character meal. It is calmer than the buffets, and while the menu is limited, we really enjoy the the food there. We have had wonderful character interactions on multiple occasions. Our kids' favorites are Chip & Dale and Pluto, so that helps a lot. The best was when Pluto taught my son to fetch--one of our favorite Disney memories! GG is hailed by many as the best character meal for kiddos with various special needs.

As long as they don’t mind an overly friendly, loud, disabled kid :-). She loves new people.

That’s good to know! She loves stuffed characters (Chick-FIL-a cow!), so I probably will put this on my short list. Thanks!

Chef Mickey(Fab 5) and Crystal Palace(Pooh and friends) are buffets with dancing and/or a parade quite often. Maybe a fun choice your daughter.

She might very well enjoy Hoop Dee Doo and I know they will have chef come out and accommodate any allergies/dietary needs. She obviously won't be able to have the Baked beans and will need her own salad. While I believe the corn bread has gluten, I don't think it has any wheat. The ribs could be a problem with BBQ sauce, but again the chef will make an alternative for her. I would think the chicken would be ok, as long as she is ok with white flour, if not, then it would need an alternative.

But they are very good about alternatives there, just let them know in advance when making the reservation and then 48 hours ahead of time by calling the number they will give you, then once again when you check in if they don't ask (most likely they will).

Happy Birthday to your daughter! I don’t have experience traveling with someone with allergies but I just wanted to say that I hope you have an amazing trip. It sounds like Garden Grill, Hoop Dee Doo and Biergarten might be good fits. Biergarten is a buffet, just in terms of logistics.

Thanks! I’m super excited. I have never taken kids to Disney, and I can’t wait to see it through their eyes.

Disney is a pretty safe place in general for the kids. While I'm not advocating that you let them have free reign to roam alone, you can consider allowing a little more roaming area than you might otherwise so that they can truly 'experience' it. If you're traveling with another adult or two, you can spread out a little to maintain a sort of perimeter that they could roam around within with just a touch more freedom. I've seen some kids really come out of their shells this way and show the parents how to have a great time. :)

I've looked at everyone's suggestions by watching videos on youtube, and DH and I think this is the winner. It's funny, as I'd never considered a special breakfast. She'll love Stitch, Lilo, and Pluto. She'll like the food. She'll like the little parade (she's shaking a maraca in the kitchen right now with her music :)) Thank you so much for the suggestion. You are awesome!
