Should I call and let them know that DD and myself are celebrating our birthdays. Can I order a special cake from the PBH? TIA:goodvibes

yes and yes

for cake orders:

Each of the on-site Loews Hotels at Universal Orlando Resort offer unique birthday celebrations. Guests can order a customized birthday cake from the following participating restaurants:

Trattoria del Porto - 407-503-1430
The Kitchen - 407-503-2430
Islands Dining Room - 407-503-3430

All restaurants require 48 hours advance notice. Customized cakes start at $35.00 + tax and will serve up to 6 people. Guests that wish to bring in their own cake will be charged a $20.00 cake cutting fee.

My DH and I celebrated my birthday at the PBH last year, on the evening of my birthday there was a card, a bottle of chianti, and a plate with cheese & crackers and grapes etc....from the hotel! I don't remember mentioning it was my birthday, but I guess I must have!

In November my niece was there for her honeymoon and they set out a bottle of champagne and strawberries at turn down one night. (with a card that said "Happy Anniversary"-oops!)

Just returned from the PBH and celebrated my birth there. My DW called and told the hotel it was my birthday. One day when we ordered room service, a cake was delivered (carrot) with a card wishing me happy birthday. I was never charged for it on the room service bill or my hotel bill. They must have forgotten and it turned out to be a REALLY happy birthday!

I don't think they forgot, they sprinkled magic dust on you to help celebrate pixiedust: :cake:

i have found that pbh is the best on doing some mummy dust for those on a birthday trip, anniversary, etc.

rph is good too at recognizing it.

hrh is a hit or miss.
we have in our ressie if we are celebrating a special day.
sometimes mummy dust other times squat.

you just never know.

on the other hand, if i really really wanted to go all out for a family member while i stayed at hrh, i would stay club or order the cake out of my own pocket
that is if i didn't want to take a chance at that hotel.

they are all on universal property but have different GMs at each hotel.

Just got home on the 28th and along with some memories, some good, some not, I brought home a terrible cold. So I'm a bit slow to get back into posting. I ordered a cake for me and my daughters birthday celebration along with a special 18th birthday balloon selection. We checked in, went to the parks and when we returned the balloons were standing in front of the window and the cake along with a card for each ofus was on the table. I had ordered the 7 inch marble cake with chocolate mousse & whipped cream filling and chocolate frosting. The cake was delicious, simply decorated with chocolate curls pressed onto the side. There were two problems with this. The cake was about 10 inches across and about 7 inches high. Wow! We had cake for breakfast everyday. The other problem was they left us with 2 plates, 2 forks and no knife. There were three of us and though this doesn't seem like a big deal, when you are riding the fringe of TA Fay and you're soaked to the bone and you ask 3 times...well anyway, I had to hack into this poor cake with a plastic knife I got at Sal's, no easy task, so forgive the pic's when I figure out how to post them. The cake was beautiful, moist and delicious and the highlihgt of our stay at the Portofino. My last stay at the Portofino...but that's another thread.:goodvibes

if you had call star service on the phone in your room, housekeeping would have brought the knife and extra plate/fork for you.

i find calling the front desk is not the quickest way to get some service.
star service has never failed me yet.

I actually did call star service and the front desk(to cancel the luau)
no response from either. Just wasn't my day. Maybe everyone ws concerned when they recieved the warning letter under their door. I know I was.:goodvibes

Most likely the Hurricane was the reason for your problem. The hotel is suddenly dealing with an influx of customers because people are seeking shelter and then they must deal with the safety of all of the guests and be prepared for the disaster. A cake knife was probably a little low on the priority scale.

When we stayed at the Swan/Dolphin during Hurricane Charley, service personnel were yelling at guests (us included for trying to go outside and take pictures). They were actually rude--called us idiots, but we realized that it was for our own good.

The cake knife issue was really small. The problems with our keycard for purchases went way over that. My DH lost it.:sad2:
