Didn't I see somewhere that DL is now offering birthday cakes at their full service restaurants? I believe you could order whatever and they would bring it out to your table? Is that correct? Can someone point me to more information on this?

You can order cakes at the restaurants inside the hotels. Not at a restaurant inside the park. :)

We ordered one through disney dining last june for a late brunch at Lilo and Stitch inside Paradise Pier

I ordered one through Disney dining a couple of weeks ago for my son's birthday dinner at Goofy's Kitchen next month. I can't remember all the prices. They have different size cakes. Disney dining can give you more info.

Actually, as part of the What Will You Celebrate? promotion, the DLR is bringing back custom cakes to the Parkside Table Service Restaurants.

The start date I have for it is Spring 2009. You can contact Disney Dining on (714) 781-DINE to see if it will be available when you visit.

Yes and I think it is going to be great! Just another part of a celebration that makes it more wonderful! I am not sure when it starts but you can call and ask them. I am hoping to have it done in April but we can wait until our june trip too.

Oh wow, I will have to check that out. We are going on my sisters BD and will be celebrating in the blue bayou...a cake would be a great surprise.

The new cakes comes in either a treasure chest for boys or a jewlery box for girls. They also come w/ little nick-nacks but I think they're pretty cute for the promo. I personally think the jewlery box is just a pink treasure chest. ;)

here's a scan I did earlier today from a leaflet we got in the park that shoes the chests :)

While we are offering those, I was actually referring to the full-size custom cakes that you can get at the Hotels. Those are what are being brought back.

You can get a regular sheet cake with a customised message and floral designs, or a Disney-themed cake with edible decorations.

That would be so fun to surprise DS with a birthday cake on his birthday! He would be happy with the little desserts they usually give for free but a real birthday cake would be great!

Now I will need to re-think my dining plan. LOL!!! I had wanted to have dinner at Cafe Orleans on his birthday because I wanted to order that chocolate crepe dessert....might have to wait until Sunday night to go there for that.

So our options would be Carnation Cafe, BB and Cafe Orleans in the park - am I forgetting any place else??

I am wondering about this, too. Has anyone heard whether or when this is happening?

We don't have a hard date yet. It will be sometime this Spring, but the exact date depends on when we finish building the new Resort Bakery behind Mickey & Friends (it's coming along well, so I would imagine soon).

You have to order thru vacation planning, and let me tell you it is a complete disaster trying to order anything custom. I have been working on a cake for my son's birthday since LAST MONTH. Vacation planning said they would have the pastry chef call me, and he never did. Of course we are less than 2 weeks away from his birthday and when we will be there and I tried to call today to get it put together and it was a huge mess. Vacation planning put me thru to disney dining who said they can't do it. I demanded to speak to the bakery who told me I have to email images of Jack Skellington for the cake, but nothing is guarenteed. They will not quote me a price, and are telling me I need a 10 inch cake for 3 people when that in fact feeds like 10. And it's such a mess we cancelled the cake. What they are advertising online does not exsist until Late April. So I guess if your birthday is like my son's or in Jan, Feb, or march beware cause you cannot get what they advertise.:headache:

I had no trouble getting a cake ordered for our Feb. trip earlier this month. It was delivered to our room as requested through Vacation Planning. I don't know who you were dealing with, but I went through Lauren. She is a GEM! If she can't do it, no one can! Call Vacation Planning and ask for Lauren! Good Luck!

Thanks for the update!

I am sorry about your experience. We have always ordered cakes through Disney Dining, rather than Vacation Planning. They lost one cake (couldn't find it but didn't charge us and sent a replacement cake), but the others times, the cakes have been perfect.

The cake does have to be 10" to have edible images placed on it. We usually get a cake at the first of our trip, then refrigerate it and snack on it throughout the week, since it is way too big for just 2 of us.

I had originally dealt with Lauren, but she passed me on to another cast member because she couldn't help me with what I wanted. I can't understand it. It's simple, a 6 inch cake with jack skellington on it. Whatever, I'm gonna just do something else for him to surprise him. It's just disappointing.

I'm sorry that they couldn't help you. It sounds like they just couldn't put your design on the smaller cake. Good luck and pixie dust for finding just the right thing for the birthday surprise! I know what you mean about the first quarter of the year's birthday people missing out. My ds b-day was in earlier this month. When we went, the only part of the celebration stuff was the expensive party favors. The special cakes and the round-up were not there.

Just an update on this.

The new Resort Bakery has been completed and will be opening this Friday. I don't know when the new Custom Cakes offering will begin, but I expect it to be sometime in the very near future.
