Birth certificates for Passports

the form does not say long form birth certificate it will only say that you need proof of parentage and the only way to prove that is with a long form birth certificate. Here is a link to a page that i received telling you about it. http://www.canadainternational.gc.c...AL_NOTICE_POP_Policy_BIL_2011-10-21_FINAL.pdf hope this helps
If you are renewing for your children then you do not need a long form b/c unless old passports have been expired for more than 1 year

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for.

I couldn't find it anywhere on their site - but it does seem like it needs to be updated.

Not sure why the child's application actually doesn't have this info on it? Why not put it on the home page on the passport website?

Our son's passport is over 13 months expired, so I have to get the long form.

Thanks, Tiger

Despite the comments that it's really clear, it really isn't. There is no one page that specifically addresses whether I need a long form for dd.
DD is fifteen, and her passport will expire a week before our trip. So I need to get her a new one. This will be her third passport, and until this time the short form has been all that was needed.
(And an FYI, as an unmarried parent it was never required that I have her long form, as was stated upthread.)

So, if I am understanding this correctly, I do NOT need the long form because her passport is not 13 months or more expired? It won't even be expired when I reapply:confused3

I'll have to call tomorrow, but hoping I won't need the long form as I tried the application online and don't remember some of the information (there was an OB strike, I saw a family doctor, there was someone on call that day but I don't recall who would have been the "attending physician" etc).

Just read the link you provided. It appears I am in the clear with the short form certificate still, as the passport is not expired. One less thing to worry about, thank you.

(And I still say the Canadian Government aren't making this information easy for people to find. I had to read a link provided by someone on a message board when I had tried every search I could think of for an hour:headache: Thy really need to make it clear on their website.)

I agree! As I mentioned, I am an English teacher, and can read and process anything, but there is nothing on there that I could find, and I spent considerable time on multiple websites.

I also discovered this from the DISboards. :thumbsup2

I just completed the online form (love that!), so hopefully we should see it soon.

Just another money grab from us Canadians in regards to having us spend another 35.00 for the long-form birth certificate.

I just went down to the Whitby offices to have our passports renewed and took the regular birth certificates for both of my daughters' passports. I did not get asked about a longform birth certificate at all. I think maybe this is for new children's passports? Even then I don't know that it is an absolute requirement. If it is, there will be a lot of people looking to get those first. Ripoff!

Anyways ... arrived at the Whitby office at 11:10 am, left at 11:50 - all done and should arrive in two weeks. Ottawa was calling my reference and my daughters' guarantor at 1pm!!! Woohoo - they are working on them already!!!

That is great news!

I am very frustrated with the lack of info on this as well, but as has been reported on here several times, if the child's birth certificate has already been expired by more than 12 months (which my son's is), then a long form seems to be needed. You don't indicate in your response if your children's passports were expired by more than 12 months.

I ordered the long form birth certificate on Monday night, and it already shipped out yesterday! But, that is an extra $35.00 that may not have needed to be spent according to your experience yesterday.

I ordered it based on what I read on here, so hopefully it is correct.

Won't know until we renew passports next month.

Thanks, Tiger

I was at the Yonge Street office in North York, they have posters up everywhere stating the changes, you need to prove parantage, only way is with the long form. All 4 of my kids were over the 12 months and I did have long form, but also asked and they confirmed this was correct unless the passport has been expired less than 12 months!

Ordered long form birth cert online on Monday night, and it came by courier today!

Great service! Tiger
