Me again. Last minute jitters :confused3 I just checked my 6 yr olds birth certificate & it doesn't have a raised seal. Maybe this was discontinued in Mich? There was a thread about this awhile ago. I didn't read it. Any help out there?

My new copy is also like that. They just have to say that they are the certified copy or official certified copy. There are probably water marks or something distinctive on them too. It will be ok. :)

As long as it was a certified birt Cert that you ordered and paid additional for...Not the one that is give to you at the hospital...you should be fine. Alot of states have changed their BC so they no longer have a "raised" seal...but other means of proving their official.

But again as long as the bc that you have is NOT the one you get from the hospital...you should be fine.

Basically, a certified birth certificate has either a raised seal, or is printed on special paper.......the paper looks like a fancy award certificate with fancy graphics on the border like on a dollar bill. Both should say Certified Copy.

Anything else, INCLUDING a photocopy of either of the above, is worthless.

And if you order your birth certificate through VitalCheck, make sure you order, and get a certified copy. In many states they will, for a lower fee, get you a copy, but not a certified copy of a birth certificate. Don't know why they offer this service because anything you would need a birth certificate for would require a CERTIFIED copy.

I strongly urge you to just get a passport. They are much more durable than a birth certificate.....and also are a piece of legal government photo ID.

Both DH & I have original birth certificate and they don't have raised seals. I panicked and ordered new ones just in case. But we got on with the originals for two cruises with no problem. I guess NY didn't have raised seals back then. Don't worry too much.

I called DCL this morning. I described all of our birth certificates (with & without seals, stamps, etc,) & was assured that they were fine. I just hope that the person checking us in agrees. Thank you all for your replys. :wave2:

We are from Michigan also. I wasn't really aware that my six year old daughter didn't have a raised seal on her b.c. until I read your post. I also have a 10 year old son, and his does. My daughter's has a faint embossed seal stamped in the lower left corner, which is actually more visable from the back. Near it, it says that it is a seal from our county, Macomb.

We did cruise 2 years ago on DCL with these very same birth certificates and had no problems at all.

We are going again on the April 23rd Western and can't wait!

Enjoy your cruise!

Mine is black with white print. Only one I've ever had.
DH's is a postcard type.
Both are in the bank box right now, so I don't know exactly what they "say" about official.
I know DD10's has the raised seal.
