Just a thought which I haven't seen discussed here. If the name on my birth certificate is different due to marriage, do I need to bring my marriage license along too for proof??

Just trying to think of the incidentals!
:p IVY :p

Very good question and very valid point..............that is why i ALWAYS bring my marriage license with me whenever we travel and I need to show my birth certificate.

One lady working behind the counter at the airline I used actually thanked me for bringing it. I figure that you can never have enough documentation. Just think if you did not bring it and there was a problem - like not getting on the plane or ship - although I have never heard of that happening cuz look how many woman have different names on their birth ceritificates and licenses, so you never know, but I like to be better safe then sorry.

However, since my husband's passport expires in March, my son and I will also be getting them, since it is so much easier than lugging all those important papers each time we travel.

Good luck to you!

One word...Passport. ;) Easier to carry one thing than worrying about not having all the right documentation.

Good point...I guess I'll have to rethink the passport, but I only have about 46 days until I sail!!! How much is it to expediate service?? Don't know if I want to break out the pennies to get it or not.

:p IVY :p

I have always taken my marriage license even though I have never needed it. I figure what's one more piece of paper given everything that I pack!

You do NOT need to bring your marriage license!!!
It is not required but I suppose if you want to keep track of one more piece of paper go for it!

we received out passports back in 10 days from the day we filed. We filed for them on Dec 16 and received them back on December 26 no expedited service used.

A drivers licence and birth cert. are all you need. Mine have different last names, but no one said a thing.

I was told by DCL and Costco to make sure I brought my birth certificate, with a raised seal, and my marriage certificate to show name change. Or, I could get a passport.

If you have your birth certificate and you also have a picture id with the same name as your reservation you do not need a marriage certificate.

Or you could do what I did and on my driver's license I have firstname, maiden name, married name so EVERY name is covered.

I fly under my maiden name as changing frequent flyer names on your account is akin to an act of God and just not worth the bother IMO.

But having my married name on my driver's license keeps the airline from asking questions when I fly alone w/the kids who use married lastname for their name.

And at times I hypen and others I don't. I see myself as a "mystery lady" (in more ways than one ~cackle~)

 In my case my marriage license has my first husband's last name, I would have to find a copy of my first marriage license, my divorce papers and my second marriage license. I'm sure I'm not the only one this would apply to.

Now that's a lot of extra paperwork! LOL :hyper:

Divorced here still with ex's last name. I took my birth cert and my drivers license...that is all they needed...:)

another reason why it was good to keep my maiden name, even after 17 years of marriage. I don't have to stop to figure this stuff out.

I came into the world with one name, and I'm going out with the same name.

(Now, if I'd married a Disney, maybe I would have reconsidered....Jodi Disney has a nice ring to it.)

You do NOT need to take a marraige license with you. In fact my moms birth cert was not even her real name...I sent away for a new one for her and they screwed up the spelling...she ended being listed on the new one as carbine when there was no a-i-or e in her real name LOL...when I called Disney and asked about if it was gon to be a problem they said it wouldn't be since her married name was different from her name on the birth cert anyway and that they just match the dates of birth on the birth cert and drivers license and those have to match.
