Birds in the parks?

Like a pp said, if people wouldn't feed these guys, they'd stop hanging around for an easy meal. This is not just a Disney/Universal issue, if you've never spent the day at the beach and had your sub sandwich snatched right out of your hands, well, you haven't fully lived.

There is an amazing amount of wild animals on Disney property, if you truly take the time to look for it. Deer and alligator spotting at Fort Wilderness are some of our favorite activities outside of the parks.

I'm pretty terrified of birds, and my younger sister thought it would be hilarious to walk behind me in Frontierland holding a penny above her head. The birds swoop in trying to snatch it, while I tried not to completely lose my marbles in the middle of a huge group of people.

The worst I have seen them is at the fish and chips and pub at the UK pavilion in Epcot. We always see tons of ducks and those pointy beak birds.

A few years ago a large flying bird took the end of DD's hot dog in Frontierland. I wish I'd known then that they will replace it. This year I was eating a sandwich at UK in EPCOT that I had brought into the park. I was holding it down too low and a large bird took it from my hand. He (she?) ate just the bread and started to walk off leaving the ham on the ground. I said. "If you are going to take my sandwich, don't leave the ham lying there. Come back and finish eating that ham." To the amusement of everyone in the area, the bird walked back and ate the ham!

The white birds with long beaks are Ibises and they are all over Disney World.

That's neat to know. Those are the ones that roost in the trees as it goes to dusk?

The only bird interaction I remember at Universal was DS getting pooped on by a seagull.

Other than that, my bird memories in Orlando are the vultures we saw circling when we went to Chase on our first trip, and of the gazillions of birds we just don't see here in WA all over AK and MK.

There were also tons of birds by the stand in Epcot right before you make it to Canada (many years ago they use to sell McDonalds nuggets/fries). I'm so not a fan of birds so I tend to remember spots to avoid.

As PP stated they stick around here because people getting food from here tend to give them fries.

Yup, those are the ones. In AK, in the trees along the river, there are tons of them at sunset-

One of our kids had a churro snatched right out of his hand. We thought it was hilarious! He was less amused.

The only birds i saw at Universal were ducks at the Royal Pacific hotel by the pool and the area where they served food. I didn't notice any in the parks. At MK when I was there we saw quite a few hanging around where we got our funnel cake. Luckily none tried to snatch it!

People think its really cute to feed the birds, especially if it makes their kids happy to do so. I've seen people letting their kids feed the birds at Flame Tree AND Caseys while they were sitting right in front of a "do not feed the birds" sign!!

It drives me crazy. Not good for the birds and creates a total nuisance for guests, too.

The birds at the outdoor snack bar by the Contemporary pool were absolutely GANGSTER in their determination to get at your food.

The birds at the outdoor Mexico restaurant in Epcot wouldn't take no for an answer either, even if you were just enjoying a Margarita. It was especially enjoyable when they would crap all over everything but then you know how it can be with Mexican food....

The one place where eating outdoors surprisingly was not a problem was the outdoor seating at the Caribbean Beach hotel. There were wires up across the patio but any bird brained half wit could figure out to just fly under them and encroach on the area. Surprisingly only one did.

The absolute funniest were the Birds at Kouzzina. They were stealing the butter and jelly from an unattended table. These birds had butter and jelly all over their beaks. The servers came and cleaned off the table and reset it for the next guests. After they left the dopey birds started stealing the packets of artificial sweetener from the table. We nominated these birds as the "World's dumbest"!

Been spendin most our lives livin in an ibis paradise

We ate at the counter service Mexico restaurant in Epcot. You sit outside in a pavilion on the water. Beautiful setting and great food, but the birds were a little annoying. There was poop on the tables and birds flying over head. Whenever someone left, the birds would descend on the table to eat the crumbs. It kind of put a damper on the meal, we ate fast and took off. They were not pigeons though they were small black/brown birds.

We really wanted to eat here but the birds were everywhere. And I'm terrified of birds, so we left and moved onto another place to eat. This was the worst I've seen the birds at WDW.

Wow! When did this happen to you at Kouzzina? I ask because I just ate breakfast there 2 months ago, ate outside and loved it. And no birds even came near. One of my favorite meals, however if the birds were as bothersome as when you were there, I wouldn't have enjoyed it. No wonder when I asked to eat outside, I didn't have any trouble getting a table!

The water parks are bad too. But because there are so many trees around most everywhere, they're stealth like. You don't really see them until you sit down with food. Then they swoop down out of the trees and attack!:lmao: We were sitting under our umbrella in the reserved seating area and DD had her entire container of fries stolen by one bird, and as we reacted to that another came from the opposite side and took her uncrustable. It actually was funny. We just rolled with it and they did replace our food at no charge.:goodvibes

When DS was 4, on our very first trip to WDW, a bird swooped down and took his quesadilla right out of his little hand at that CS restaurant. The look on his poor face was absolutely priceless! BUT, the second quesadilla I had to buy was NOT!

We ate there for breakfast in early December.

Oh my, I am sorry I started this thread!!!
If any of these things ever happened to DD, we would never get to set foot inside Disney again!!!

The lunch at Universal was a true disaster and she was a mess the rest of the day! I can't imagine if she encounters an aggressive bird!

I will not be sharing your stories with her but I will certainly use them to be cautious!!

We live near Kings island amusement park and have season passes. I know where the birds hang out and we avoid those eating places!

Thanks for the stories!!!!

Another place we see alot of birds, that I haven't seen mentioned, is the La Kringla bakery in Epcot. Those little brown birds are always hanging around in that covered area where the tables are. We've had one land on our table more than once begging for food.
