Bird Flu in Canada

They've been blowing bird flu out of proportion for a couple years now. Nothing ever really comes of it. I wouldn't worry.

Where did you read about it in Canada. I must have missed it. I do usually keep up with this, being the paranoid type I am.

There is no evidence that it is the strain of Avian Flu.

DW MeanLaureen spoke with all of her doctors last week about the bird flu since she has an autoimmune disease and was wondering if there was anything she should worry about.

Every single one of her doctors said the media and alarmists have blown the whole thing out of proportion. That they are thisclose to having a vaccine available. The chances of it even mutating are huge, and if it does, with modern medicine, it won't amount to anywhere near the panic, gloom and doom that ABC's movie would like you to believe.

All they told Lauri was that when the vaccine was ready, they will have a dose waiting for her because she is on the top priority.

I'm somewhat concerned, but I think DH is fixing to go into full-fledged panic mode.

Keep in mind, my education comes from the ABC movie (I know that's funny in and of itself). So, with that in mind, I've heard if this thing were to mutate, any vaccine they've been working on will be worthless with each and every strain that mutates thereafter. We also know unless it mutates, there will be no pandemic anyway. I guess I don't understand how doctors could be advising that there is a vaccine almost available. We know that production will take quite a long time once a vaccine is available too.

I'm not pushing panic buttons either, but I think we should stay informed. Testing on the goose from Prince Edward Island will be back next week, so we'll know more then. Let's just hope it hasn't landed on our shores yet.
