Biometric Passports Delayed

Not sure if people already know this but it appears to have been delayed for 12 months.

We go this friday and fly into chicargo first and they are doing photo and fingerprint for non us travelers when you enter surposed to roll it out to all airports later let you know when we get back

Good lord, they realised it wasn't sensible to impliment it before the countries concerned had a chance to make sure the damn things worked properly. Wonders will never cease.

Absolutely nothing to do with common sense!! And all to do with $$$$$.

The change has come about after extensive lobbying by the US tourist industry, who rightly pointed out that implementing biometric passports as a requirement before most countries had them would severely hit the US income from tourism.

We don't expect common sense from our politicians, so why should theirs be any different?

Very fair comment Pat. (although I think votes are more important than $$$)
I think they did know there was a cost involved, but didn't care (more votes in appearing to promote "security") . Maybe Florida being such a tight vote and an important "swing" State the current Government realised they needed to care about the financial damage being done to that area.
