We're interested in renting bikes on our next visit to OKW. I'm curious as to the availibility of bike trails and where you can take the bikes? I think it'd be a really interesting way to ride around and see the World (other than what you see riding the busses!)

TIA! :sunny:

I don't think you can take them out on the roads.

so the only place would be the trails going to DD and SSR. if you can.

I think someone say that you can't take them off OKW property???

might be better to go to BW and rent one there. Or FW?

There is nowhere to ride them safely off the OKW property. You can ride them all over the OKW property, though. There are no bike trails.

So if you rent a surrey bike at OKW, do most people ride in the street or on the sidewalk? Also, is riding it on the path over to DTD out (we probably wouldn't anyways). DH promised me we could rent a surrey bike at OKW next time, and I was wondering where we can/can't ride. Looks pretty fun, especially since the roads look flat (unlike the Boardwalk).

We rode the surrey bike on the sidewalks unless someone was walking on the sidewalk. Then we crossed the street and used the opposite sidewalk. The buses are too much competition on the roadway.

Oh, c'mon Deb, show 'em who's boss! Under Florida law, a bicyclist has the same rights as any other vehicle. :rolleyes1

But seriously, OP, Disney is a truly biker-cruel place. I do a good bit of bicycling on Miami streets (an area not known for driving competence, and the place where road rage was invented), but I would never bike at Disney.

Theoretically, WDW would be a cool place to bike around, but when you remember the traffic, the road design, all those people who are trying to look at a guidebook or map and drive at the same time -- it's no place for a bicyclist.

Jim, that's why I'm here to talk about it. :drive: We did drive through the parking lots at the various buildings.

Thanks for the responses! That sounds so terribly borring, being confined to OKW for riding. Its like when I was a kid and I could only ride four houses down and had to turn around and come back! :rotfl:

hey I though the bike trails at FW were fun...

You can definitely rent a bike over there or at WL - you don't have to be staying at the resort to rent a bike from 'em.

Thanks, spicey! I'll look into FW.. that might be more interesting with all the foliage!
