We are trying to get a cart rental from Tee Time, but as of now none are available.

SO, what are people experiences about using bikes to get around the Fort? I.e. any problems parking the bikes? Do we need to lock them?

Thanks in advance.

July 24th is not getting here quick enough!

:cool1::cool1:

We stay in a full hook up and always use our bikes. The Fort is bike friendly and we don't lock them up either. The only time we take the bus to the marina or outpost is when it's raining. If you bring your bikes, make sure you have a light on them. That way you can ride them at night and be seen. We also ride around all of the loops.

We love bringing our bikes and have never rented a golf cart. We have locked them before....if we ride them to the marina to catch the boat to the MK and will be gone for a long time, we will lock them. The kids love to ride them around the loops too and they are a great work out!

Lights are a must! We have both front and back lights. Also we bring a bike trailer for our 3 year old --- its also great to carry towels to the pool and drinks and snacks when we go to the sing along and fireworks. My bike has a trailercycle for our 6 year old for longer rides also.

I love the Fort, and while Disney is Magical,,not all the people who visit, are. I would lock up my bikes. To this day, we have never had anything stole from us while at the Fort,,but why take chances. Disney security at the Fort sucks, anyone can come and go as they pretty much please, campers (as a rule) are good folk, it's the others I worry about.

We prefer to put our money into an extra day or meal out and can't see paying for a golf cart (although they do look fun) so we always bring our bikes and love the freedom of going places golf cart can't go. We have never locked them at the site, but do not keep them out in front, but back behind the RV. If we take them to the beach to watch fireworks we don't lock them. If we leave them for any length of time at the beach we do lock them. We are looking forward to our 9th trip soon and have never not taken the bikes and have never had a problem, but that doesn't mean we couldn't at some point. Locking them is not a bad idea.

We biked long before we got a cart and sometimes still carry one or two when we go, even with the cart. Also, like Frank advises, I do lock them up, even though I have never had anything bothered with at the Fort.

So what areas are you able to visit with the bike and not the cart? I.e. do you ride outside the Fort? Is that even possible?

We have a baby-carrier on our bikes but did not have any grandkids with us on our trip to the Fort so we used the seat as a carrier for the beach bag/towels, insulated totes, or purchases made while we were biking. It worked out great.

I am not sure my DH and I would venture out of the Fort on our bikes. If you know anything about the Disney highway system it seems to be about 50% buses, 40% people who have no idea of where they are going, and only about 10% of people actually know the roads, hence making a ride outside of the park a "interesting" challenge :scared1:(just my opinion)!

I am familiar with the traffic, that is why I was wondering if WDW would even allow bike traffic outside the Fort.

However, I was curious if you could ride from the Fort to Wilderness Lodge on the road near the lake, bypassing hitting the main traffic coming in the main gate.

You can ride the path near the stables just past the Settlement Bus Stop all the way to WL, just be careful at about the halfway point. It crosses a road and you come up on it all of a sudden, you need to stop and look. I rode it at night before and almost got hit when I ran up on the road suddenly. Seems to be cast member road and they go really fast down through there. Nice ride during the day, kinda creepy at night, very dark.

I would bring one long lock and tie them up together if you're leaving for the day. But a quick jaunt over to the meadows, movie, settlement. I don't bother. You're usually not that far away.

I actually prefer using my scooter for getting around the fort. Just as fast for me. And if I get lazy, I can just fold it and take it on the bus with me. Some will complain I have to fold it all the way down, others don't care.

I'm old and need the exercise, so I only use my bike to get around the Fort. I even take Buddy, see my Avatar, he's the little one, in a front pet carrier. People think he's so cute when they see him in there. He loves it. I'm able to go everywhere at the Fort. We have two of the folding bikes and they fit very well in the storage compartments underneath the MH. But I would never go out on the main roads. Those WDW bus drivers are craaazy. It's like they think they own the roads.

Bring the bike. Lock it up. Stay on property. I4 is not bike friendly.

Biked it for years. Bought a cart and there is no turning back I love me some looping. But its fun both ways.

There is a great path that goes from the stables area at Pioneer Hall over to Wilderness Lodge. No golf carts allowed. In the early morning and at dusk if you ride your bikes along the path you will likely see lots of deer. It is a favorite activity of ours. DH loves photography and has quite a collection of deer photos.

You have approximately 10 miles of roadway inside the Fort if you do all the cabin loops, camping loops, and main roads. If you're feeling adventurous after all that, you can take the exercise path and bike your way over to the Wilderness Lodge and explore the resort. You can ride bikes to both pools, all the playgrounds, the Settlement area, the Marina, Meadows Trading Post and recreation area, the Outpost - anywhere you can walk, you can ride. Golf carts are prohibited from some areas, like in front of Trail's End, the trail between Settlement T.P. & 300 loop, and the exercise trail. I say "prohibited" because there are people on this board who blatantly disregard the rules. :rolleyes1

Riding on the main roads outside of the Fort is discouraged. I'm from these parts and you must trust me when I say that people who are driving around WDW have, for the most part, left their brains at home or in their suitcases. It is NOT safe to ride a bike on the main roads. I've seen people do it, but also, do not know if Disney Security caught up with them to say whether or not it is allowed. I just don't know about bike riding on the public roads - but I can assure you - I'm not going to try it.

We have some rather expensive bikes, and if we leave them for awhile, we lock them up. I know of one Fiend in particular that had his bike "pinched". We even chain them at our site. It keeps the honest people, honest.
