bike riding

This might be in the wrong section sorry if it is. But I am coming down to Disney world in september driving from Canada. I will be bringing my bicycle down or at least hoping to just wondering if any one knows of any roads or anything that is good for road biking around Disney or the surrounding area. I really want to test myself in the Florida heat and different surroundings. I am staying at AoA if that helps anymore.

Less than an hour from WDW (Lake Wales area) you can bike up some of the highest mountains in Florida, slightly over 300'. The are also some really nice rail trails within about an hour but most road riders I know don't care for those.

As for the roads around WDW, I wouldn't ride on them. Traffic is heavy and almost no one is paying attention.

As far as I know, biking is not allowed on Disney property. Knowing several cast members, they were told they could not bike to work. Too dangerous with heavy traffic and not a biker friendly area. Being a cyclist myself, I don't think I'd ride on property even if it were allowed. Sounds like others have good suggestions of rides in the area! Stay hydrated!

I'd never bike around the Dis property. People looking at the signage. Lost people. People in a hurry. People tired. People yelling at their kids in the back seat to stop touching their sibling.

Too many distractions!

Thanks for the info. Yea I know Florida doesn't have much elevation. But I just want to do more then going to the parks. I have a day long hike at a state park on Saturday and want to test my road cycling ability in a hotter climate on the other day I have nothing planned.

You might consider biking at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. There are only buses and golf carts on the campground roads and it is really beautiful.

There is also a path (the jogging path) that takes you from Wilderness lodge to the campgrounds for some extra mileage. If you were looking for a long ride, you would definitely be traveling the same roads several times but it could be a pleasant option.

I have parked here (Latitude/ Longitude) 28.561466 , -81.759084 There were cold showers and drinking fountains at this park. I used the suburban trail along OLD hwy 50, to the hills on Buckhill Rd and Sugarloaf Mountain Rd. It's been about five years since I have done this loop.

Clermont has been a USAT training sight in the past. With popularity, there is a bit of animosity with the automobile traffic. Summer Sports ran triathlons from this park, The Horrible Hundred (Florida Freewheelers) starts from this park. I made a quick map, If I were to do Clermont today, I would drive this route first. It worked well in the past, but it may not be the best route now:

Also look in Disboards W.I.S.H. area and ask Coach Charles for good routes. He is fairly active in the marathon/run Disney area.
