Bike ride, or attempted murder? Also, hypoglycemia

Hey there! Thought I'd give a hello and figured ya'll would understand. DBF has been insisting on buying us bikes so he can start going bike riding again, and so I could go with him as well so we can both get into better shape. He used to ride his bike everywhere because he couldn't afford a car, and could ride 20-30 miles a day without working up a sweat. In any case, he bought them for us yesterday at Dick's Sporting Goods (mine, if I may point out, is a pretty purple color), and we went for a ride on the bike path last night. Keep in mind I haven't ridden a bike more than, you know, 50ft since I started driving when I was 17, and am fairly out of shape. I was doing great for the first mile and a half or so, until we hit this lovely hill. My thighs start to burn a little bit, but I wasn't breathing too hard and could still hold a conversation. Then we got to the 2nd hill, and there *may* have been some obscenities uttered (shouted?), and I may or may not have told him that I was going to turn him in for attempted muder. The good news is that I'm still alive, and am once again speaking to DBF lol.

Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do with my diet since I was recently diagnosed as hypoglycemia/insulin resistant. Fun! I have to eat several small meals a day - often when I'm not hungry and it totally feels like I'm putting in calories that I don't need! SO frustrating! My doctor referred me to an endocrinologist who I have to make an appointment with once the referral goes through.

Any other hypoglycemics out there with any advice?

Yup!

Milk is pretty much a staple. If I am not hungry, I drink a cup of FF lactose free (lactose is a sugar) milk. You will get used to the taste. Its not bad.

I am not but want to say what a good thing you are going to be doing for you.

I know that eating more often and smaller portions is recommended and if you can get that figured out along with getting in some movement you may surprise yourself and find that you are feeling much better for it.

I'm glad you are finding a way to get moving and work with your health situation. I know you can get through it and WISH you get it all done!

:cheer2:

I have no help for you with the hypoglycemia issue, but wanted to say great job on getting a bike ride in!

Be careful with getting bikes from a place like Dick's though. Ideally, you want to go to a specialty bike shop for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is that you get properly fitted. This is hugely important. In any case, you want to make sure that this is adjusted and tweaked to your unique measurements so that you avoid injury (and also don't have to work as hard!). And don't forget biking shorts...otherwise your girly parts are gonna hate you! :lmao:

Have fun out there! :goodvibes
