I know you can rent bikes but how much do they cost? Is it per hour or length of stay? Hubby not keen on taking ours.

You can rent them at the resort for the length of stay. There are also plenty of places to rent bikes on the island. Look in those free guide books that are everywhere with coupons for discounts on lots of things.

Can rent by day or stay. I agree look in the guide books for bikes rentals, there are quite a few. Although renting from disney is pretty easy, there pricing has recently gone up a bit. If i was renting again (after our first visit) I would rent off-site. Most may offer pick up and delivery service, I am almost certain.

We actually enjoyed bikes so much on our first trip, we will be bringing 3 of our own this month. We figured if we visit HHI once a year, it won't take to many visits for the investment to pay itself off.

I would google HHI bike rentals so you get a better idea of cost but I am almost certain off-site financially will be a better deal verses DVC

what is the weekly price now? I thought is was $32 last year.

I have rented from several of the vendors in the area. They deliver, pick up and do a great job for less then Disney! And the "books" generally have "deals" if you get more then one bike!

That sounds about right...I am thinking DVC went to 35 a week and you can rent off site for an average of 25 or so. Savings is probably 10 bucks a bike.

Just got back. It was $30 for length of stay. $16 for one day.
$30 is still not bad for the convenience, especially for the whole stay. i just came back from the Pocono Mts. and a bike trail shop rented for $30 per day! However they were geared bikes not cruisers as at most HHI rental shops

Are bike locks provided? (Through DVC and/or through outside companies?) Do people generally wear helmets, and if so, do they provide those? Just for kids, or for kids and adults?

Thanks. :)

Length of stay in our case was at least 4 days. I don't know if there is a maximum.

Bike locks and a small basket are both provided by DVC.

All the bikes from DVC are single speed, coaster brakes, and fat tires. Helmets are also provided if you request them. We wore helmets, but most people did not.

We saw many bikes that were rented from off site operators, but they seemed to be the same type of bike. The only multi-speed road bikes, mountain bikes, or hybrids we saw were all people's personal bikes.
