Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

Rose have a great trip. Enjoy the run. The trail will lead you to FW. Think of me when you get there. It is my favorite place to be in DW.

Rose- ENJOY your trip!!!!!
princessbride-hope you get to go this summer!
jen-COW sounds like fun!
Everyone else - cool jobs, and good morning!!!!

My arms are shaking so badly, I can't type! I did 25 minutes of arms and abs with Jillian, and then another 175 crunches with my ab dvd. I'm running late getting ready, but I'll be stronger when I get there! I don't do the leg stuff on the jillian workout, b/c I don't want to tax them too much with running on the days I don't do her dvd.

I was down another pound this am, only .5 to go today to make 50 tomorrow! I might weigh after my run tomorrow morning, just for the added boost!

Have a great, super, healthy, strong, energetic, good food choice, pixie dusted day everyone!

Taryn

WHHAAAAAA! I thought I was going to make 150 this week but for some reason the scale was up this morning. I was good all day and counted calories and drank my water. Now I'm going to hope for at least a loss this week since I was up so much from the weekend. I think I'm going to stay on program as much as possible this weekend so I can reach it by the start of the next challenge next week. I think my goal will be 140-145 as a final and then to maintain that.

Going to be a hot one here today. Meeting redwalker for a walk this morning so hopefully I can get really close to 150.

Have a great day. Need to try for the 2nd time to get DD1 up!

I am amazed at the number. People are really being successful. I'm just hoping to end the challenge at the same weight as I started  That wasn't the plan, but I'm happy that i haven't totally lost control.
My sentiments exactly. I'm .6 below my starting weight today, but 2 weeks ago I was 4 pounds above, so I'm happy to be back down. Planning to stay on the losing train. Maintaining is underrated, especially when all those stressors of real life interfere with the best laid plans.

Wow, it's hard to believe it the final day of the challenge. Good luck to everyone as we do our final weighins. There have been some amazing weight losses this spring, and everyone should be so proud, whether you've maintained, lost 5, 10, 20, or 40 pounds, or even had a gain, you have stuck it out, gave it your all, and that is a success.

Linda- welcome back. So sorry to hear of all you've been through but happy you're feeling better. Good luck in the 5k on sunday!!

Dona- Isn't the drama awful some times. MIchael was having some drama with another boy in his 2nd grade class, and I'm encouraging him to look at it all as a learning experience, and we all meet challenges in our lives we need to deal with, etc, and I thought it never ends. The old unit I worked in the drama was so bad, worse than middle school. It is ridiculous sometimes. Congrats to your sister. What a wonderful accomplishment for her, and you sound like a very supportive and proud big sister.

QOTD- I would love to be a photographer. Of course, money no object, so I would have the best equipment, and also the training and confidence to do the job without a worry that the pictures wouldn't come out. I would like to be a disney cast member too, maybe a photopass photographer one day when I retire. When I was in high school I worked at Chucke Cheeses briefly because I wanted to be a character. Well you had to work your way up, vacuuming the entire place every night just was not my thing. I wouldn't be able to stand the heat in disney in one of those suits.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's letters. So many of you said what I should say to myself more. I am worth it, and I need to do this.

Have a happy, healthy, ,active, low cal, high water day, and rock that scale tomorrow!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

Morning Everyone!

This morning I got up and did my crunches so that I don't have to find excuses not to do them tonight! :lmao:

Had my usual breakfast of oatmeal and skim milk and packed a good lunch for work. I also have a banana and almonds for snacks later today. I need good snacks because I am biking to work and the extra exercise makes me hungry.

My goal for the day is to drink water ALL day. I am bringing my WDW resort mug with me today to make me want to keep it near me and drink as much water as possible.

Alright, have to get going so I can strap my bag on my bike and get going to work.

Hope everyone has a really healthy sort of day!
Jen

Just a second to jump on and say hi before work. The sun is out! It's only supposed to last a couple of hours, but I'm looking forward to wearing my sunglasses on the way to work.:goodvibes

Kathy:hug: I wanted to tell you I always enjoy your posts. You have a really positive outlook on things. I know you can do this! And I agree sometimes I think maintaining is under rated.

Have a great day. I did the elliptical this morning, so tonight when I get home it's laundry and packing.

Good luck to everyone with their final push!:)

Good morning all! :goodvibes

The snow and wind of January seem far away now as we get to the end of our challenge. What a journey we've had! So while we get ready to celebrate our accomplishments and look back on how far we've come, here is a little quote to consider:

Stop living life for what's around the corner and start enjoying the walk down the street. - Grant L. Miller, motivational guru

Enjoying the road to accomplishment

It's possible to be a little too focused. With blinders on, it becomes easy to completely live in our vision of where we will be in the future, while ignoring the improvements that we have made in the present. The road to a healthy lifestyle is a long trip. While it's very important to realize what we are shooting for, we also need to make sure that we keep our heads in the present to enjoy the progress we've made. If your goal is to lose weight, instead of waiting to celebrate until you lose it all, enjoy today's small victories and take advantage of your improved health now. This approach serves as motivation for any aspiration in life. Set ambitious goals and enjoy the road to accomplishing those goals, because life might pass you by if you are always planning for tomorrow without ever seeing today.

Maintenance is underrated, it's true, but losing the weight you want to lose is always preferable to staying somewhere you don't care to be, so BRAVO! for the way you've rocked this challenge and gone after what you wanted!

Thanks, corinnak! I will remember this quote about not staying where you don't want to be next time I am stuck! :thumbsup2

What happened to me.

Didn't just drop out. For over a year and a half, I have had ongoing bouts of nausea and vomiting. Sometimes just a day, sometimes several days, etc.

In 2009, the only month that I did not have at least one episode was June.

In March, got another one, only this time my system completely shut down.

Had emergency surgery on March 17th to remove hernia and had 6 inches of my small intestine cut out and spliced together. The hernia had strangulated my intestine - killing a portion of it. It drifted in and out of the hernia for the whole time.

After that, I was three weeks in the hospital, dealing with one infection after another. Now I am pretty well recovered, although still healing the wound.

A vertical incision up the centre of a stomach that is basically all fat is hard to heal guys - more motivation to make changes.

Anyway, I am just now pretty much back to full steam, and will attempt a five k on Sunday - sorely undertrained, but grateful to be in the running.

Two months ago, it would have been inconceivable.

Anyway, I hope you all did well in this challenge - remember me for the next

Congrats to all the "loser stars".

Linda

:tinker::donald::mickeyjum

 Linda! Sorry for your troubles but glad to hear that you are on the other side now. Your first 5K this wekk-end! :thumbsup2 We want to hear all about it!

There is a summer challenge. It start on Friday 5/28 and here is the link to the thread. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36638729&postcount=1 Hope to see you there!

Wed. QOTD: What is your DREAM career/job? Don't worry about education, income level, hours, etc. Just tell us your DREAM job.

Okay, really my dream job would be to get paid to do the Disney thing -- DL and WDW. But since I was the one who wrote about the dream job in my letter to myself, I will say that my more realistic dream job is to become a registered dietician. It won't be too much different from what I am doing now, counseling people, except they will be happier not to be involved in the legal system. I can be in private practice, and choose my own hours, maybe work in the hospital or write. Heck, maybe I'll even be the RD for The Biggest Loser some day! :goodvibes

I'm really hoping to hit 50 pounds by Friday and if I keep up with what I've done so far I will make it. Redwalker and I are hitting the mall in the morning for several miles. I hope to get several in first thing in the morning. I need to do all my miles earlier in the day due to DD1 and DHs make up soccer game.

I bet you can get that 50 lb clippie by Friday! :thumbsup2

Yesterday I spent the day with my parents and my sisters. My younger sister (as in I am almost 55 and she is almost 45) graduated college. It took her 10 1/2 years but she finally did it. So I went and took my parents to the ceremony. I got my exercise in because I had to park in the parking garage at the loocal arena. I parked on the top floor and had to walk down the 5 flights and at the end of the ceremony I had to walk 5 flights up. I have never seen her so happy. As she was going up to get her diploma she was in a crowd of people but she spotted us. She waved and she had the biggest smile I have ever seen on her face. I am so happy that I got that shot with my zoom lens. Afterwards we went out with my parents and coupleof my sisters and a neice and went out to lunch..

Sounds like a great day with your family. It is exciting to think about retiring and the next phase of your life. Sounds like DH is ready for some time with you again!

QOTD: I have loved every job I have had in the last 20 years! Actually, I have two "dreams" that I haven't completed yet: One would to be a Family Court Judge. I worked in family court for years and, although stressful, was one of the most rewarding periods of my life. I'd love to be able to go back and make even more of a difference. My scond "dream job" would be as a successful, fun writer. I don't need to write literature - just something fun that would give readers a respite from daily life!! Hopefully someday.... :goodvibes

DH wants to be a judge, too. It takes a special kind of person to deal with Family Court! :flower3: Maybe a book about the foibles of the court personnel behind the scenes! ;)

I have decided hat I am in a kind of self induced maintenance mode for the next 2 weeks. School is almost out and until it is, I am not going to worry about weight as long as it stays the same or goes down. There is just so much going on that I know it will be best for my mental health to not be quite as hard on myself as I have been. I know that when school is out...I will kick into high gear again and all will be good. I am not looking to go crazy, just not focusing on large losses each week.

I think it is a great plan to tread water for a couple of weeks, jen. Nothing wrong with letting your mind and body adjust to where you are now, especially at the busy end of the school year! :cool2:

I have many dream jobs, and none of them require 9-5, 5 days a week. I would like to be paid to research on the internet, stay at home, maybe even be a Disney travel agent. I am not really a hermit, but I would just love a stay at home job. I would love to plan and organize for people, I love to schedule and plan and make lists. I KNOW, I'd like to be a personal cheerleader! :cheer2: I could teach how to do lots of stuff, and cheer along the journey!!!!Jen, I've thought about writing a children's book, also. I may get to that one day. I've also thought about just writing, but I'm not sure what it would be.

Well, I have to say that you do a great job of cheering all of us along the way on this thread! :flower1:

My Dream Job?...Really good question. My answer is that I have no idea. My degree is in business management and I'm sure that I'm good at managing people, but I don't want an office job. I know that if I have a sit down job I will not be able to control my weight. I also want summers and school vacations off, but I do NOT want to be a teacher. I plan to go back to work full time in September, but I have no idea where to begin looking for a career (not a job this time as I'm looking at the rest of my life). :confused3

Maybe you could work in the office at a school? They need good managers just about everywhere. I hope that you will find something that works for you! :flower3:

Two nights from now I will be at Disney!!! I was going to work a half day Friday, but my boss gave me the whole day off. So now I can work out before we go. I pick up DH after he gets off work and we're off to the airport. We're planning a run at WL for either Saturday or Sunday morning.

Congrats on the job offer! It wasn't that long ago you were starting your new job. And enjoy your trip to WDW. :goodvibes

I am also really excited because I think I have finally figured out how I want to do the COW for the summer challenge and it is going to include fun activities focused on relaxing in the summer, written shout outs and praise...and...cool PRIZES! Can't wait to share the new ideas with you all soon!

Sounds wonderful! :goodvibes Thanks for your hard work and being our COW keeper this summer! :flower3:

Wow, it's hard to believe it the final day of the challenge. Good luck to everyone as we do our final weighins. There have been some amazing weight losses this spring, and everyone should be so proud, whether you've maintained, lost 5, 10, 20, or 40 pounds, or even had a gain, you have stuck it out, gave it your all, and that is a success.

:thumbsup2

Dona--The graduation sounds wonderful!:goodvibes I'm sorry about the drama at work. My DS asked me yesterday (he's working a campaign this summer) why grown-ups have to keep acting like high schoolers? I told him I really don't know.:confused3

And we have a lot of similarites. I have had shingles too, in additon to the heart thing. I did not enjoy shingles.:sad2:

I agree with this!

Sometimes I think we just need a break. Not from the eating healthy and exercising so much as a break from the fullout focus. A little mental shift that says I am going to be ok with whatever this week and do the best I can and that's enough. Hope you make it through the next two weeks without too much stress!

QOTD--My dream job would be to do decorative painting. Murals, floor cloths, furniture, etc. In our basement, my DH built countertops and I painted them black with neon designs. I also painted the stairs and a bunch of other stuff.

I had an interesting day at work today. I got offered a different position, not a promotion but a lateral move. The job is a little outside of my comfort zone, but given that I have just gone back to work in the last six months, everything is a little out of my comfort zone. What was interesting was something she said to me during the meeting. In the course of the conversation it came up that she saw me as a very outgoing person. Kind of going along with the losing weight and how we see ourselves, I still see myself as very overweight, I keep trying on clothes that are way to big, etc. And I don't see myself as outgoing at all. I want to be outgoing, I might have been outgoing at one point, but I would not have described myself that way. It gave me something to think about. The new position will start in July and still be part time with a more flexible schedule. I'm going to take it, despite my nervousness.

Two nights from now I will be at Disney!!! I was going to work a half day Friday, but my boss gave me the whole day off. So now I can work out before we go. I pick up DH after he gets off work and we're off to the airport. We're planning a run at WL for either Saturday or Sunday morning.

Have a great evening. Finish strong! We can do this!

Have a FABULOUS trip!! We'll be thinking of you running around the World! And good luck with the new job...you can do it!

Just have to say that I did all my crunches! I am really happy because I often say that I am going to do them . . .and then get so caught up in the night that I don't do them. I think it helped that I would not allow myself to have the ice cream without the workout. :lmao:

So now you know that I also had the ice cream too. Should not be a big deal because I only had 3 points for breakfast, 5 points for lunch and then 10 for supper. That left me with 3 daily points and I had earned 5 activity points today so I think I was more then fine.

I am also really excited because I think I have finally figured out how I want to do the COW for the summer challenge and it is going to include fun activities focused on relaxing in the summer, written shout outs and praise...and...cool PRIZES! Can't wait to share the new ideas with you all soon!

Time to get ready for bed! Chat with you all later!
Jen

oooooo... prizes! I don't usually get involved in the COW during the school year because I have a hard enough time keeping all of my balls in the air, but I had been thinking about jumping into it again for the summer. This might cinch the deal!

I actually found a light ice cream that is only 2 points per serving. I have been enjoying it this week, so I totally understand the ice cream thing!

Wed. QOTD: What is your DREAM career/job? Don't worry about education, income level, hours, etc. Just tell us your DREAM job.
I loved being a performer, so I'd go back to singing and dancing for a living. I'd love to be in a Broadway show, but I've also always dreamed of voicing animated characters, especially a Disney princess. ;)

OT: So, this weekend we were listening to the soundtrack from Finding Nemo: The Musical (the show at AK) and DD asked if we could go to Disney World. This came out of nowhere, as the last time we looked at pictures from our trip was over a month ago. She really wanted to go see Nemo and the hotel with the animals. DH and I batted around the idea of a summer trip but didn't really decide anything. Today he comes home telling me he asked for time off in July. So we might be going on a trip in 2 months. :scared1: We'll see. ;)

I would PASS OUT if DH suggested a Disney trip (that said, he is the one who suggested that I take DS to Disney for our Mother/Son weekend). I'll be excited to hear about the planning if you decide to go.

Well HAPPY THURSDAY morning everyone! I finally get a chance to hop on here early.

I never answered yesterday's QOTD..... maybe because I don't have a good answer. When I think about the things I would like to do I come up with things like organizing (both things and people), scrapbooking (so something creative would be nice), reading (love to read and even like to do some research), planning (love to plan things... parties, vacations, etc).

I guess my dream job might be some sort of party planner/event organizer (I've always loved planning big birthday parties for my kids and I ran VBS at our church for two or three years). That would involve the organizing, planning, research, and creative aspects. Although since most of these events would probably be weekend events, I would have to work weekends, which I would not like.

I have given some thought to going back to school to do something in the nutrition field (although I KNOW I wouldn't like all the science) or to become a professional organizer. I guess I'm sort of all over the board on this.

I had a sneak peek at the scale again today and I LOVED the number I saw!! If I can hold on to that number until tomorrow I will be thrilled!!!!!!:cool1: We'll see..........

I have not been nearly as diligent with my exercise this week as I should be, but it has been a super busy week. I am SO looking forward to school ending so we can relax just a bit!

I need to get moving. DD is having a bunch of Rainbow Girls over this weekend for a sleepover so they can work on the scrapbook for their Grand Assembly. I need to get the house really cleaned and then set up a bunch of my scrapping supplies in the dining room for them to use. My cleaning list for today is about a mile long and includes steam cleaning the living room and dining room carpets and the stairs! I guess I better hit the ground running! TTYL...............P

ETA: DUH... I never posted today's QOTD! Here it is.....

As our Spring Challenge comes to an end, what is one thing you learned that you think you will carry forward in your life and in your ongoing weight loss/maintenance journey?

For me..... SLOW AND STEADY wins the race!! As many of you know, I have struggled and struggled for many months now with these last few pounds. There are moments when I wanted to throw in the towel and just hit maintenance.... but I haven't. And I finally feel like I can HIT THIS GOAL!

My sentiments exactly. I'm .6 below my starting weight today, but 2 weeks ago I was 4 pounds above, so I'm happy to be back down. Planning to stay on the losing train. Maintaining is underrated, especially when all those stressors of real life interfere with the best laid plans.

Thanks so much mikamah
I needed to hear this.

MIA Here but not really... just been lurking most of the time.
So glad to read all your stories but too embarrassed to share mine
because I have been the Queen of Self Sabotage.

I have lost a total of 6 lbs since January.... ironically that was how much I lost the first week.

So I need to be positive and stay in the NOW.
I'm ready for the Summer Challenge!
I'm hoping that the Sunshine will help me get out and Walk every day
and stay connected.

Thank you all for being here and Good Luck to all of you tomorrow :flower3:

The most important thing that I learned is....

It's not just about "The food" it's more about "Why the Food"

This is what I need to "Dig Deep" to find out. :flower3:

Well folks, I'm moving slowly today. I can't believe it is after 1pm and I don't even have a small fraction of my list accomplished. And to top it off, DH reminded me that we are going to a comedy show tonight.... not my thing at all, but he wanted to go and bought the tickets, even though I said repeatedly that I DIDN'T WANT TO GO!! And of course, he never wrote it on the calendar so I totally didn't realize it was today! Throws a monkey wrench in my day.

The living room is picked up, dusted, and the carpets are shampooed.

The dining room "high traffic area" is shampooed.

Two loads of laundry folded and put away (first thing this morning).

Two more loads out on the clothes line and one waiting in the washer to go out.

Dinner started.

Chili for Saturday made and ground beef for Monday cooked, rinsed, drained, and frozen.

The remainder of the list is SO LONG!! Gotta fly................P

Hello everyone! Thanks for the support on the 5k Saturday! I have been pushing myself the past few days and really thing I can do it. BUT - I probably won't be. The three of us (DH, DD and I) were going to do it and I just found out dd has Sever's in her left foot. This is actually good news - we had thought it was plantar fasciitis but a comment a mom made at the cheer gym had me get dd's foot looked at by the dr (she had her trainer evaluate her 12 year old and said she has an "adult" problem, pf and it struck me as strange that I would listen to a trainer about my child which made me go to the dr ;) ) and she said this is pretty common in kids 10 - 14 who run or jump alot. Basically her bones are growing faster than her tendons so her growth plate is what's causing the pain. It will self-heal, it won't go on like pf can, but she does have to stay off of it for a few days (but she still wants to go to practice tonight :rotfl:). Anyway - my point - the kid can't walk or run a mile let alone 3. I think I'm going to wait and see how she is Saturday morning and if she's not hurting we'll go and walk slow and if we get swept we get swept. I think she'll love the energy and attitude at the race!

Just put back a bag of baked lays I grabbed - not hungry. Hooray a small victory!

My dream job - this is hokey but getting paid to be a mom and wife. I feel like a traitor to my liberated sex but I do love it! The liberation is what gives us the choice to stay home right? :goodvibes

Tracey what is your facebook page?

Home from my sprint with Redwalker. We got in about 5 miles and several people commented on our walking! We ate lunch at Subway counting our calories. I just came home and had some light popcorn and my handful of M&Ms. Water and my Subway for dinner! Will have some more water this afternoon but not too much before the soccer game. I am also planning on 2-3 more miles after the girls get home. Don't think I'll have time after the game though unless I do a quick one.

Gotta head out in a few to get DD2 at preschool but now it's time for some more water. Gotta catch up!

QOTD Thursday: As our Spring Challenge comes to an end, what is one thing you learned that you think you will carry forward in your life and in your ongoing weight loss/maintenance journey?

This challenge, I reached maintenance. I've learned that maintenance is both easier and harder than losing weight. It's easier because I can be a little more flexible with my eating and exercising and keep the weight off. It's harder than losing because you're not focused on that goal and concentrating on weight loss. Letting other things in my life take focus while maintaining my weight is challenging.

Thanks for coaching this week, pjlla - great questions! :thumbsup2

5/20 Thursday QOTD: As our Spring Challenge comes to an end, what is one thing you learned that you think you will carry forward in your life and in your ongoing weight loss/maintenance journey?

This is the challenge in which I started maintenance, and so I think I've learned a lot! I've learned some of what it takes to maintain for life - I feel like I've still got a lot left to learn, though. I also learned that I can get back on track when I slack off - the most important thing is not to let it get away from me. It's like I've got 2 frames of mind that I switch between - when I'm on track, I pay attention to what I weigh, I care about what I'm eating and how much. When I slip into that old mindset, I just want to ignore all of it - what I weigh, how much I'm eating and what the quality is of that food as well (i.e. more processed, packaged, takeout, dessert, snacks). I think it is going to be a lifelong struggle to stay more in the healthy frame of mind, and I've just begun to get the hang of that. It took about a year to ditch my excess weight. It's going to take at least that long to master the art of keeping it off!

Good afternoon all! :goodvibes

Thank you pjlla for being our coach this week! You had some great questions and that is no easy feat at the end of the challenge. :goodvibes

Please be sure and PM those weights to LuvBaloo and final COW numbers to donac tomorrow.

I have a number showing on the scale today that I haven't seen in a long, long time. I am hoping it is still there tomorrow! :yay:

ETA: DUH... I never posted today's QOTD! Here it is.....

As our Spring Challenge comes to an end, what is one thing you learned that you think you will carry forward in your life and in your ongoing weight loss/maintenance journey?

I always have a hard time with the "just pick one" questions -- I can never pick just one! :rotfl2:

So I am going to do a little top ten list of things that I learned this challenge and who I learned them from:

10. Always have a plan (pjlla)
9. You can always eat more calories than you can exercise away (corinnak)
8. You can never exercise too much (tigger813)
7. You can't go wrong with a positive attitude (happysmyly)
6. Drink your water. (sahbushka)
5. Treat yourself like a child and make sure that you are taken care of
(Worfiedoodles)
4. Good habits will help you reach your goals (donac)
3. If you break a dish, don't throw the rest on the floor -- or get right back on track if you go off plan (LuvBaloo)
2. You are the only person who can make this dream happen for yourself (me)
1. Never give up (mikamah)

This list could have been much, much longer because I have learned something from each and every one of you. :flower3:

Wow! You will be in maintenance mode in no time! :goodvibes

:goodvibes

jennz, hope that your DD is feeling better soon. :flower3: I'm so glad that she doesn't have PF.

Just wanted to stop by and show off my new clippie...

*spinning* *twirling* *spinning*

That new clippie looks great on you, Ann! :cool1:

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow's weigh in!

I assume you are talking about your 45 pound clippie--you look mahvelous!

And if you are talking about the new challenge clippie--you still look mahvelous! :)

QOTD--I'm not sure. I've learned a lot, but if I had to pick one thing I'd say "you're never to old." Over 40 does not mean you can't get in shape, lose weight, try new things, run a race....Things might take a little longer, but I think that means you just appreciate them more!

Hope everyone is having a great day! I REALLY wanted to go out or get takeout tonight, but went with a boca burger and some leftovers. It was yummy and I am stuffed! And I know I ate less than if we would have gone out.

Thanks Pamela for coaching. Great questions!

Good luck tomorrow. I'm looking forward to the new challenge, but before we switch over I wanted to thank everyone from this challenge for all the amazing support. You all are the best! :goodvibes
