Biggest Loser 9 Spring challenge -- Part 2! HERE WE ARE! :)

Thanks for all the comments about choosing a goal weight. I had read about the Devine scale. Interestingly, that matches what I weighed in college. I am 5'7" and was at 135 (and thought I was "fat"). The most comfortable weight I've been at as an adult has been 150. Last time I lost weight I didn't make it there, only got down to 162. I think I have a lot more muscle than I did in college, so 135 might be unrealistic. I think I'm going to set a goal for 150, and then re-evaluate when I get closer. Like many people, I have never thought I was "good enough." That's going to be the hardest part, not only feeling good enough, but feeling great!

Tigger--hope the first communion went great!

Have a good evening!
Rose

Thanks, Rose! It was a great day! She looked so pretty and enjoyed it so much! We then spent the afternoon with a family that we've become good friends with over the last month. She got a Aeropostale gift card that we may use this week. She also got a Target gift card from Auntie. Took some photos with her camera and some video of the day. She got a neat new Bible too. Then tonight DH went to a league soccer coach's meeting and won 2 tickets to a NE Revolution Soccer game in 3 weeks at Gillette Stadium so she was super excited. And they are great seats!:cool1:

I ate and drank way too much today. Really need to get back op tomorrow. Of course PMS is setting in. Got a pretty good night's sleep last night so if sleeping goes well tonight I may have the energy to get up and workout early.

1 client tomorrow and dancing for DD1 and myself tomorrow night. Of course we are expecting a ton of rain again this week! Not good news as there is a major water problem in town. I will actually have to ask permission to get to dancing as it's right up the road from the flooded area. Good news is that it's supposed to be in the 70s for Easter next weekend!

Hi BL pals
I was looking on the WW website tonight and came across this member's website. I thought some of you might be interested in what she has to say. She has some interesting thoughts on choosing a goal weight:

http://goingskiing.webs.com/choosingagoalweight.htm

And on losing the last 5-10 pounds:

http://goingskiing.webs.com/laststubborn10pounds.htm

And a bunch of other stuff, but I'll leave it at that! :)

Just read the 2nd article! Very interesting. I will look at the other one tomorrow and reread the 2nd one. I really want to lose those last 5-10 though after this weekend it may be 15:scared1:

First of all... I am glad I didn't know about that "ideal body weight" equation. That would put me at about 125 lb. for my ideal weight. I've never been that thin in my ENTIRE life... high school or college or even middle school (I suppose I was that weight for 5 minutes somewhere.... as I ZOOMED past it of course!). I think that 130 (which is my goal) will be low enough for me!
<snip>

Sunday QOTD: This question is 2 parts and you can answer one or both. What is your favorite healthy food at WDW or DL? What is your favorite healthy food when dining out?

Not sure I have any healthy favorites at Disney. Maybe my "once-per-trip" caramel apple (at least it is fruit! :lmao:)... and I usually share it with DD, so it is actually a half portion! I also LOVE the Dole Whips and from what I have seen/read, they aren't actually that bad in fat and calories. I am looking forward to having one in just a few weeks!!
I LOVE the gourmet caramel apples. At least it has an apple in it! ;)
As for the "ideal weight" - I hope it didn't come off that I was advocating that. It's just what I've seen the formula called - I think it's too low for most people - just wanted to throw it into the mix of the goal weight discussion.

Sunday QOTD: This question is 2 parts and you can answer one or both. What is your favorite healthy food at WDW or DL? What is your favorite healthy food when dining out?

Another tough question. I can't say that I eat very healthy at WDW. We eat a lot of quick service meals. Often I let DH and the boys get what they want and I eat the leftovers. There are often leftovers and I hate to throw food away. If I do order for myself it is always a kids meal as the portion sizes are just right for me. I usually get the grapes or apples too. When we eat out I usually opt for something like chicken teriaki, a 1/2 breast size with veggie and rice. That is what I had when we ate out last night in fact.
Not a lot of delicious healthy food comes to mind for me at WDW or when dining out - that's why I put the question out there. To maybe spark some ideas that we can share with each other. I also like to get the kids meals. I love that they come with two fruit/veg sides!

Ugh...painting....ugh....

I love painting, but this was a lot of telling other people what to paint, which is far more exhausting to me than doing it myself. That along with the unfortunate paint fumes leaves me feeling wiped out even though it is only 6:30!

Sunday QOTD: This question is 2 parts and you can answer one or both. What is your favorite healthy food at WDW or DL? What is your favorite healthy food when dining out?

My favorite healthy food when dining out is hard to choose - I have to say it is the whole wheat angelhair with roasted vegetables at Tucci Bennuch in the Mall of America. Mmmmm. I also love stir fry from Ghengis Grill and the black bean soup from Panera.

Favorite healthy foods at WDW: Chocolate covered banana from the ice cream carts is pretty darned good. I love the fresh fruits at any of the buffets. I can't think of a lot of real "healthy" food at WDW, but I did get some really good vegetarian vegetable soup at All Star Sports food court, of all places! We also love the veggie burgers, but I'm not sure of their "healthiness" rating.

It is so hard to list healthy foods because it seems like one person's idea of healthy is another person's idea of scary, you know?
I know what you're saying. My idea of healthy on vacation is a little different than my "on plan" at home. I may have to try Tucci Bennuch - never been. We'll have to get back to Khan's for some healthy dining out (similar to Genghis Grill).

I'm with you on figuring out how to feel good at my goal weight, despite it not being my ultimate ideal weight. In my head I know I can't get to ideal with my current lifestyle, but what we see/feel when looking in a mirror is a different story. My Devine scale weight is 120, which is definitely not happening. I was always a muscular child and teen (gymnast, tennis, softball, soccer & dance) so I think the last time I was 120 may have been age 13.

Thanks, Rose! It was a great day! She looked so pretty and enjoyed it so much! We then spent the afternoon with a family that we've become good friends with over the last month. Congrats to your DD on her communion. I'm glad you finally got in a good night's sleep. Hope that trend continues for you! :thumbsup2

Wow, the goal weight post had so much information - I'm still processing what I read. Some things really clicked with me and it definitely has me thinking. It took me a while to get through because I enjoyed exploring some of the links.
And can I just say that I LOVE this quote:
I need a weight were I can follow the 80/20% rule and eat healthy 80% and less than healthy 20%. This works well. Dieticians recommend it. It is a reasonable and happy balance.
This changes my entire line of thinking. I've been feeling like I'm cheating or having mini failures when I go off plan, eat treats, dine out. But 80% healthy is something I can absolutely achieve - pretty much everyday, I think. I think I am achieving this actually, without even knowing it. Why have I never heard this before?

Guess I should answer my own QOTDs!
Sunday QOTD: This question is 2 parts and you can answer one or both. What is your favorite healthy food at WDW or DL? What is your favorite healthy food when dining out?
My fave healthy foods at WDW are veggie burgers (I just discovered these a few weeks ago - they have little chunks of veggies like broccoli in there!), the beet/goat cheese/mixed greens salad at Sunshine Seasons, and all the salads at Boma dinner. Oatmeal and fruit became my staple healthy breakfast - I wouldn't say it was amazing, but it was good enough that I didn't feel deprived turning down the more fun breakfast foods.
Dining out is tough for me. My coworkers take a weekly lunch trip to Baja (quick Mexican place) and DH/DD's fave restaurant is a local pizza place. Finding truly healthy options at these places is rough for me. I get the black bean chili - no sour cream - at the Mex place and limit myself to a handful of tortilla chips because they have an amazing salsa bar. And I treat myself to soda because they have my fave: Coke Zero. At the pizza place, I usually order an "individual size" veggie pizza and don't finish it all. They have some yummy ones.

Still down 5lbs :goodvibes
I got a prize for doing so well and me and my mom watched Twilight and New Moon, but I fell asleep during them lol :lmao: I was just plan tired :guilty:
Now watching the end of Titanic on TNT, might watch the whole thing later on DVD. Saw The Princess and the Frog and Old Dogs. Did a walk on the tredmill for 30 minutes while reading Breaking Dawn. I'm on the 3rd part of the book finally lol. I was getting tired of Jacob talking and complaining, but I made through it :woohoo: I have to say I hope things go this smoothly for the next some odd pounds I need to lose lol. My mom said she'll be praising me for my comitment when I lose a total of 10lbs all together. Two of my best friends gave me a wonderful birthday present today. They got me a tote with Edward Cullen on it and a bunch of pins on it with Edward, the Cullen Crest, and New Moon :scared1: I love it :cloud9:

Downside to all of this is that for Easter I either get no candy or maybe a piece which isn't to bad to me I guess, but its still sad to not have the yummies :sad1: But I'm working hard :laundy: and staying an angel :littleangel: on my way to weight loss :thumbsup2

Behind again. Ended up with the flu, which is a horrible way to come back to work. Missed all of Thurs and most of Friday at work. I tried going in Fri, but gave up after an hour and a half and 3 people telling I looked like crap and should go home. Actually starting to feel mostly normal today, but not much stamina. Went out as a family and did a little geo-caching to celebrate the start of spring. DD's Brownie troop is doing geocaching on Tuesday, and DD is the only experienced one in her troop, so its a great opportunity for her to speak up and share knowledge. I ended up having a 3 hour nap when we got home, but it was great to get outside and enjoy some sunshine and fresh air :goodvibes

Anyhow, I started reading through the posts and didn't get all the way caught up, but will finish up tomorrow or Tuesday.

Thanks ShortyNBug for coaching last week!:thumbsup2
Thanks PrincessBride for coaching this week!:cool1:

QOTD: What have you done to get your family on board with your new healthy lifestyle? Are they excited to try new things with you or do they grumble about the changes?

DH is supportive, and knows the changes are good for him. Our DD's at 8 and 5 so far have no weight issues (I'm more worried about the 8yo being too skinny). Focus is on eating healthy, with unhealthy food being a treat.
DH did not like the whole-wheat pasta at first (too expensive was his grumble) but he's realized that it has more taste and is more filling. He actually went to the grocery store on Saturday with the girls as I wasn't up to it. It was cute that he came home excited about reading the labels on some stuff. He was surprised at the difference in the regular frozen burgers vs the lean angus ones, and realized that I was right, the extra cost was worth the better burger in taste and nutrition.

Welcome back, Shannnon, thanks for getting our results out so quickly! So how far it is to walk to DL from your house?

Its about 1675miles to DL :thumbsup2

Friday QOTD: How do you deal with treats? Do you have a splurge day, avoid them altogether, find healthy treats?

I eat some treats, but have switched to some healthier treat options like baked instead of regular chips. :goodvibes

Off to bed to read before getting a good nights sleep and back to work again tomorrow :(

Here's the friendly reminder to report in.

Redlight & CptJackSparrow - I'm not sure if you want to do official weigh-ins or not, but if you do just send me your weight.

If your name is on the list, I haven't gotten your March 26th weigh in yet.

Starting the day off right! I just finished the 1 mile WATP! Planning on doing a 3 mile after taking DD2 to preschool. Then giving a hot stone massage at 12:30. I also have my Irish Step class tonight!

I'm so wiped out! I really think it's the what seems like incessant rain! It started again last night and is expected to continue until Wednesday! 3-6 inches expected! YIKES! Please pray for all the families that are dealing with flooding in their homes in MA including my town! It just doesn't want to stop!

Time to try and get DD2 up again! She's wiped from our busy day yesterday and stayed up a bit late last night.

Enjoy your day everyone! I really needed to get back on track since I'll be coaching at the end of the week!

Good morning fellow losers. It's was a busy weekend here, so I don't have enough time to read through it all, but I will tonight. I'd love to get some healthy food ideas for disneyworld. I'm guessing I won't be hearing that my favorite mickey ice cream bar is healthy.

Sunday QOTD: This question is 2 parts and you can answer one or both. What is your favorite healthy food at WDW or DL? What is your favorite healthy food when dining out?
I love the dole whips, which may not be too healthy, but they are low cal and fat free, I think. We often grabbed a bowl of fruit or grapes or a banana on the way to the bus in the morning from the food court. I am also one who doesn't eat very healthy on vacation.
Healthy food when dining out would be soup. Any broth based soup is good, or chili. Panera is our favorite and they have a few low fat, high fiber soups that work out to be 2 ww points. Their black bean and chicken noodle are my favorite.

I'll be back on to catch up later.

Have a great day.:)

Morning all! I am subbing for the school nurse today, so it is a crap shoot whether or not I will have a quiet day.

An interesting thing for those of you who have been reading about my struggle to get to my goal weight. A woman I sub with is on WW also and commented that she is just too hungry with just 18 points per day. I wondered why she only gets 18 when my (older) WW book states that the minimum is 20. I asked over at the WW Chat thread and apparently WW has changed things up over the past few years and now the daily minimum is 18. (The weekly Flex points hasn't changed.) Considering I am not particularly tall and I am within just a few pounds of my goal (which is at the lower end of the WW goal range), I am probably supposed to be having a daily minimum of 18 points instead of the 20 I have been having.

All this time I was thinking I might be eating too little and maybe it was too much?? Who knows!?? I MAY officially join WW again this week to get some updated books/information and to be able to attend a few meetings and spend some time bending the ear of the leader. It might seem foolish to join now... obviously I know what I am doing because I managed to lose almost 85 pounds on my own and joining WW to lose the last 7 does sound kind of silly. But I am struggling so badly with these last 7 that I think I need some "professional help"!!

I can't believe that Easter is less than a week away! I haven't even given it any thought. I have bought NOTHING for my kids baskets yet. They are getting older and I am not filling the baskets with candy any more, but they still need something. Probably end up buying Legos and such for DS and Itunes cards and such for DD. She also wants a new perfume from Victoria's Secret. I'll probably buy DS a Disney gift card also for our upcoming trip. I'm not working tomorrow because the kids and I have dentist appointments in the afternoon, so I guess I'll run out in the morning and get those things.

I didn't get nearly as much scrapbooking done this weekend as I wanted, but I am almost finished with our 2005 trip books and I am so excited! Just a few more pages to finish up and I can call it done!!

Well.. I'm off... TTYL...............P

On a roll, 4 pounds for the day so far!

Of course, I need to get moving after this incredibly wonderful weekend. Unfortunately it was filled with overindulgence! I'm refocusing this week. It's Holy Week and I really didn't give anything up for Lent so I will be really focused all week to make up for that!

Time to shower and get ready for work!

Nope! :scared1:

I started out on this thread and totally got off track. I am exactly the same weight now as I was when I started. I guess if I was on the maintainers team, it'd be something to celebrate! :rotfl:

I guess I will try to get back on track since we are going until mid-May.

Cool birthday presents. It sounds like you are finding good ways to stay on plan. :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear that you are sick. Yuck!
Very cool with the geo-caching. I'd like to try that when DD gets just a little bit older.

Ooh, now you've got me thinking about some Panera soup for lunch...
On vacation, especially at WDW, I don't feel like every meal has to be a treat or a splurge. So if we're eating at a Quick Service where nothing really appeals, I'll just get the healthiest thing on the menu. Again not a particular healthy food, but a strategy for dining out is to just not finish everything. I'm sure we've all heard that before. Like if I get a grilled chicken sandwich, I'll usually discard about half the bun. Or if it's a buffet, I'll take teeny portions.

Morning all! I am subbing for the school nurse today, so it is a crap shoot whether or not I will have a quiet day.

I wonder what the better point amount is for you. Since you don't often eat your activity points, I can't imagine you're eating too much, but I guess it's possible. Whatever is keeping you from your goal weight, I hope you figure it out! Did you read the two links Corinna posted? One was about losing the last 5-10 lbs. I haven't read that one yet, but read the other one and liked the author's perspective.

Sounds like you're all set to get in lots of great exercise this week!

Happy Saturday morning all!

That said, I am not feeling particularly happy. I stayed the SAME yesterday on the scale and I am just absolutely BEYOND, BEYOND, BEYOND frustration. I tracked every single point last week. I exercised every day between Saturday and Thursday. I ate well within my FLex points for the week (about 25) and made sure that I used a few almost every day (I averaged about 24 points per day)... and I still didn't lose. It might be a TOM issue, but I just can't wrap my stupid mind around it.

I know that I just need to keep on the way I have been. I'm sure that I am building some muscle from my circuit training class, because I am constantly sore somewhere from it. I know I am getting in plenty of cardio because I am getting in anywhere from 30 minutes to 120 minutes each day.

I've been doing WW long enough to know that my eating is okay .... although I suppose I could still not be eating enough.

I didn't eat super healthy last week. Because of PMS and because I was trying to get in a few extra points every day, I ate junk at the end of most days. By Thursday I wasn't sure if I wanted salty or sweet, so I was going back and forth between the two all evening!

After my frustration on the scale yesterday morning I blew my points OUT OF THE WATER at the movies last night (popcorn, M&Ms, twizzlers) and feel absolutely ill about it (both physically and mentally) today.

I did get BACK on the scale this morning to see what last night's damage might be and I am still the same, so that is good.

I skipped being over here most of yesterday because of my frustration and because I was mad at myself for overreacting in a post to Flipflopmom. I apologized to her and she was sweet and accepting.

I haven't updated my STUPID WISH journal in a few days because it feels like such a farce. It is titled "30 days til goal" and now there is NO WAY on the planet I will be near my goal weight on Easter. I go back and forth between wanting to scream and wanting to cry about it. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. I've tried eating more, I've tried eating less. I am measuring and weighing my foods and tracking everything. I am getting plenty of exercise and plenty of water. I don't drink alcohol or lots of white carbs or lots of processed foods. I try to get my healthy oils/fats. In other words.... I am following the program!

I know at this point I just need to keep plugging along. I am NOT going to throw in the towel. If I end up maintaining at this weight for the next 5 years, it is STILL better than the 219 lb. I was at before. Two years ago I would have been THRILLED to be at 137 lb. And I am happy at this weight... but I am NOT where I want to be and it seems like I just can't get there.... like one of those dreams where you run and run and aren't going any where!!

Sorry to be ranting about this AGAIN (I think I just did this last weekend. :confused3 ) PLEASE don't feel it necessary to respond, reply, or quote. I know you are all there for me if I need it. I just needed to vocalize my mental dialogue.

I think, despite the cold, I need to get out there for a run. It might make me feel better. TTYL..........P

I know I am a little behind but I wanted to give you a .

Just talked to Redwalker and her beloved dog Xena passed away this morning. We always called her Xena, Warrior Puppy! She was one special. remarkable, lovable dog!

Please join me in sending out lots of hugs to her and her DH and DDs! Xena will be missed but always lovingly remembered!:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

God Bless you Xena!

:grouphug:Redwalker!!! I am so sorry to hear about Xena.

I have a question for everyone--How did you set your final goal weight? I'm still a ways off, but I'm starting to think about it. I have the weight I was in college, and then I have the weight I was right before I got pregnant with DS, and then again that same weight a couple of other times as an adult. Those weights are 15 pounds apart. I would love to be at the college weight, but I'm not sure that it is realistic.

I picked my goal weight to be 154... anything lower than that and my face starts to look too skeleton-y. My hubby thinks that when I get to 154 I will want to be lower... but I think I like 154 (even though it actually puts me at 4 pounds over the government's "healthy" scale for my height... Idon'tevencare!)

okay just popping on here - I made a choice I'm proud of. I was still tired today from dd's sleepover party Friday night! But I did Leslie's 5 mile walk. Now it's off to Sam's...

Great job, my friend!!! :cheer2:

DH did not like the whole-wheat pasta at first (too expensive was his grumble) but he's realized that it has more taste and is more filling. He actually went to the grocery store on Saturday with the girls as I wasn't up to it. It was cute that he came home excited about reading the labels on some stuff. He was surprised at the difference in the regular frozen burgers vs the lean angus ones, and realized that I was right, the extra cost was worth the better burger in taste and nutrition.

Its about 1675miles to DL :thumbsup2

I eat some treats, but have switched to some healthier treat options like baked instead of regular chips. :goodvibes

Off to bed to read before getting a good nights sleep and back to work again tomorrow :(

Feel better soon!!!!

I finished my Christmas shopping in October last year so I took advantage of the Thanksgiving night sales and got a majority of my Easter shopping done that night (after standing in line at Wal-Mart for 3.5 hours!). I just need to pick up some treats for their baskets and a few movies (New Moon for DD13, Princess and the Frog for DD3 and Alvin and the Chipmunks for DS5).

Hello Losers!!!

It's sunny in Illinois today and by the end of the week it is supposed to be in the mid-70's! Nice weather puts me in a great mood!

I went out Friday night and had a great time. I stuck to my ice water and was still obnoxious! :rotfl:

Last night I made Indian and Thai food for dinner. I didn't use any oils and kept the points down. It was delicious and I ate more than I probably should have (I think the Thai soup I made was a little too salty). I was up .4 this morning but I don't care because I am still in One-derland!

I am getting ready to go to the gym. I was so excited to go, I actually got dressed an hour early and now I am just sitting around waiting for 12:50 to show up. LOL

QOTD Saturday: What's your favorite exercise to do with others? Is there an exercise you get the whole family involved in?

My kids LOVE it when I lay on the floor and "bench press" them. They giggle so much... it's so funny. When I skip the gym and walk in my neighborhood, I grab the kids for my cool down lap. They also love to do Just Dance for the Wii. My hubby and I do sit ups together every night before bed. I can out sit up him! :)

Sunday QOTD: This question is 2 parts and you can answer one or both. What is your favorite healthy food at WDW or DL? What is your favorite healthy food when dining out?

I don't think I have a healthy favorite at Disney. I've never had to eat healthy when I have been there. My favorite healthy food when I dine out is a grilled chicken sandwich. I eat the bottom bun only. We went to Famous Dave's on Saturday and I ordered a Grilled Chicken Sandwich and fries. I ate the bottom bun and the chicken and 5 fries. I was blessed with great willpower.

I bought some Girl Scout cookies the other day from my neighbor (darn her cute kids!). Two boxes and I haven't eaten one cookie! Yeah me!

Amazing will power!! I won't even ask what flavor you bought! And thanks for my hug earlier.

Things have been busy here in the nurse's office. Lots of bellyaches and a few fevers. I was ravenous by the time I could go to lunch. I had a small tortilla wrap (technically 0 points, but I count it as .5), with some Hormel 100% natural honey ham (1 pt) and lettuce and mustard. I treated myself to some Baked Lay's (technically just the handful of crumbs left after the weekend) and a nice pear. I also ended up eating my afternoon snack, because I figured lunch was so late (mini Luna bar).

I forgot to defrost/plan something for dinner! Not like me... I'll figure it out when I get home. Actually... I think I will serve the Salmon patties I have in the freezer. DS will eat them (although he shouldn't because they have corn meal in the coating), but DD will not. I will cook her up a piece of chicken breast. Oven roast some cauliflower and make some whole wheat orzo and serve it up with a side of all natural apple sauce and call it a night! Quick and easy. Plus DH is at a meeting in Maine and I'm not sure if he will be returning in time for dinner, so this is an easy dinner to make a smaller portion of... one patty each for DS and myself, a small portion of orzo... and I can certainly polish off lots of cauliflower... I love it.

DD has Rainbow Girls tonight. I'm not sure if she will be carpooling or not, so I'm not sure how busy my evening will be. I MUST get in a 60 minute workout tonight before dinner. Maybe I'll do a 30 minute WATP video and then do 30 minutes of strength training/circuit training on my own here. I'm certainly not going for a run in the pouring rain!! ......TTYL..........P

I'm behind on my QOTDs, so I thought I'd just do them all at once. Sorry for the book! Feel free to skim or skip the post, but it was somewhat therapuetic for me to write all of these out. I think QOTDs are one of the great parts of this forum/challenge. Even if I don't answer one, I usually spend time pondering the question and my answer.

3/25 Thursday QOTD: What have you done to get your family on board with your new healthy lifestyle? Are they excited to try new things with you or do they grumble about the changes?

The girls grumble occasionally, but they always have in typical kid fashion. DH loves to eat healthy. We both like to cook, though we don't always have time. DH has been SO supportive of giving me the time to go out and run in the evening even if it means he doesn't get gym time of his own sometimes. But, as for food, we tend to cook a lot of vegetarian with some chicken dishes. We use lots of different vegetables (it's easier living in the heart of California). Our philosophy has always been, this is what's for dinner, eat it, don't eat it, stop when your full. We're not going to force food on one of them. BUT! They don't get another option.

Last night, our seven and four year old daughters ate a Thai stir fry with tofu, spinach, asparagus, carrots, and onions. It was mild because we're very sympathetic to not being able to handle spicy as a kid. i think some people are amazed at what our kids will eat when we're out at dinner or someone's house, but they've learned to enjoy lots of different flavors. Which doesn't mean that we don't get the "Ewww...I don't like it!" before they've ever even tried it. We just remind them they aren't allowed to say that until they've given it three bites. And if they really don't like it, there's always breakfast the next morning.

3/26 Friday QOTD: How do you deal with treats? Do you have a splurge day, avoid them altogether, find healthy treats?

I've been giving myself a smallish treat almost every day. I really like something sweet at night. While we still had Girl Scout cookies in the house, I had 4-8 thin mints a night depending on how many calories I had left over for the day. Another favorite treat at night is hot chocolate and, again, depending on how many calories I have left, I'll make it weaker or stronger. I also like the Hungry Girl Whoopie Pie even though it's made using the no-fat Cool Whip (which I would usually avoid like the plague cause of the ingredients). It really hits the spot and satisfies me for the rest of the evening.

During the day, I've changed my usual daytime "snack". I love, love, love Starbucks Chai tea. About eighteen months ago, I made a deal with myself that I would only let myself have a chai tea every time I lost five pounds. At that time, I lost about eighteen or nineteen pounds, and then gained it back. I didn't let myself have a chai in all that time, because I felt like a deal was a deal. When I hit the twenty pound mark this challenge, I finally let myself have a chai again. I had my second last weekend (I had saved it from when I had gotten to the twenty-five pound mark). Now that I've lost thirty, I can have another, but so far I'm saving it. The calories in it are actually not that horrid, but a deal's a deal! Instead, I've changed my Starbucks drink to a Venti Soy Sugar-free Hazlenut Misto (120 calories).

3/27 Saturday QOTD: What's your favorite exercise to do with others? Is there an exercise you get the whole family involved in?

This was a fantastic question and the reason why this forum is so good for me and my family! We hadn't been doing much that involved the whole family. I'm running, DH goes to the gym, DD1 does ballet and has just started swim team (she's enjoying it and I don't care about records, but hope she'll follow pjlla's DD's footsteps and win a sportsmanship award!), DD2 is just your typically active preschooler though she did ask to start ballet and I'll probably have her do gymnastics once the school year is over and I've got the summer off with more time to take her. So, we all have something active to do, but it's all seperate.

Yesterday morning, after thinking about this question the whole day before, I told DH I wanted to go on a hike together for the day. He was all for it and we brought out a book we'd bought years before when DD1 was still a baby (Best Hikes with Children Around Sacramento). It has about 60 or more different hikes you can do and rates them for children's ability levels. We found an easy two mile hike over by the American River and we had the best time! We're going to try to do this on a much more regular basis over the spring and get ready for a bigger hike/camping trip this summer.

Sunday QOTD: This question is 2 parts and you can answer one or both. What is your favorite healthy food at WDW or DL? What is your favorite healthy food when dining out?

I've only been to WDW once and it was so many years ago I don't remember what or where I ate! At DLR, I tend to eat what sounds good, though both on my multi-day December visit and our one day February visit, I tried to either choose soemthing that sounded healthier or tried to split it with my DH (who is always happy to split something...anyone else have a spouse with no problems maintaining a healthy weight? :headache:). :headache:

My favorite healthy food when eating out is fish. I particularly like to go for sushi since I can eat my usual fill for just slightly bigger percentage of my usual calories I have for dinner.
