Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Well..just got back from WW and I was down 2.6? :confused3

I don't know if my scale at home is having issues or what but yesterday when I did the weigh in for this I was only down .8... and they are different from each other of course.

2.6 made me feel a little better about my week..I journaled, I was active..I did my COW...oh well..both are a loss so I will take it! :)

Have a great weekend!

Not being very good this weekend so far. Everyone in my house is sick. I barely ate Thursday. Friday I had a popsicle and a lil bowl of tomato soup with about 6 crackers. Then my hubby wanted pizza hut so he ordered it. I had one piece and a breadstick. Nothing is sitting well and nothing sounds good. We were watching movies and he shows up from the kitchen with cinnasticks. I told him those are sweets and I have a week left on my no sweets plan and he says, "they weren't on your list. It's not like we get these everyday." They actually sounded good so I gave in. Can you believe that! I ate them. I had gone 23 days with no sweets and being sick I thought I had a free ticket to eat something I shouldn't. And then this morning I had him get me a fountain coke from the gas station. I haven't had one in months and it is amazing let me tell you. But what the heck? I also had him pick me up rye bread from the store so I could make french toast with bananas and he did but he also brought me breakfast pizza. And I ate it! Only one piece but come on! I also bought Simply Orange orange juice and I never drink my calories. That's a coke and orange juice. Not to mention I haven't ran since Thursday and my chest is so heavy and full I have no intention of running today either. Darn H1N1 anyway. I don't think we've ever all been THIS sick. And I can't believe I'm letting it be an excuse to eat and drink what I want when I've been so good. I guess I let my guard down and I need to get back in control. I think confessing this will be my first step. Thanks for being there!

That's exactly how I was for 2 weeks, just eating like crazy and no exercise at all. I think my body needed the extra calories and the rest to heal though. I wasn't up nearly as much as I felt I deserved to be, and now that I'm back OP, it's coming off quickly. Just take care of yourself and your family, and you can get refocused once everyone is well.

Question of the Weekend 10/24 & 10/25

What song(s) get you motivated or inspired? Is there a song that everytime you hear it, it just makes you say "that is just how I feel"

I love when "Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night" comes on the radio when I'm on my way to work. It makes me feel like it really is going to be a good night at work, and I don't have that feeling of dread as I walk into the hospital!

Hi everyone!
So, this is my very first day...I have about 80 lbs to lose, so I'll be apart of many challenges to come.

Do any of you use anything specific to log your daily food/calorie intake? DH is doing this too and we are both the kind of people that need something visual..."you've eaten this many calories - you have this many left" OR "make sure you have x amount of proteins, fruits, veggies, etc." that we can post on the fridge to look at every day. Any suggestions?

I use a Weight Watchers journal. Even if you're not doing the WW plan, I think you could walk into any meeting place and just buy the 3-month journal. I think it was $7.95. It has a place at the top to put your daily points target, but you could use calories instead if that's what you're counting, then you write down everything you eat through the day and subtract the points/calories as you go down the page. Then there's a section off to the side to check off your 5 fruits/veggies a day, your 6 glasses of liquids, daily vitamin, lean protien, dairy, and healthy oil, so you can make sure you get all those important things in each day. That helps me decide what to eat at the next meal, I just look to see what hasn't been checked off yet. There's also a place along the bottom of the page to track your hunger throughout the day so you can see if there's a pattern to when you get too hungry and end up overeating or if you're eating at a certain time just out of habit when you're not really hungry. There are pages for notes and your goals for the week, and places to put your measurements and clothing sizes each month so you can see your progess on more than just the scale. There's a different recipe each week and inspiring messages every day like, "Test your hunger. Delay eating by 5-10 minutes before eating more. If it is true hunger it will remain, if it is psychological hunger it will disappear." The journal is small enough to fit in my purse so I can have it with me at all times and not forget to write stuff down. I'm sure you could design something similar in a regular notebook if you wanted to also.

If you want something for the fridge, you could probably make make a whole week's worth on one page using the same kind of format. When my daughter was having problems eating, the dietician gave her a paper that had 7 rows across and each row had the food groups followed by several boxes (1 for each serving needed per day), and she just checked off a box each time she ate something from that food group. It didn't have a place for calories or anything, but it helped us make sure she was eating more than just 1/2 bagel each day! We had to start with just trying to get 1 serving from each food group down her and slowly increase. Of course her problem was the opposite of what those of us here on the boards are trying to correct, but it would still work to make sure you're getting a balanced diet.

I feel like I'm back to normal and doing great the last 2 days. I ran out of salad dressing today though, so I have to go get some so my spinach salad doesn't go to waste! I haven't exercised yet today, but DH is working this evening and the girls have a b-day party to go to, so I think I'll do it while I have the house to myself.

Well... I am dressed and ready to head out to the party. I have 12 points left for the day, but I am sure that I will use them all plus some Flex points, but that is okay, as I usually only use a few Flex points a week (usually less than 20).

To those of you battle flu and other illnesses... GET BETTER SOON! :grouphug:

For those who had a good weigh-in... WOOHOO!

And for the rest of us, who are hating the scale this week (including myself)...:cheer2: Keep at it! It will happen!..........P

Thanks everyone! While searching the web, I found livestrong.com. There's a free version and a pay version. I can log in my foods and it figured out how many calories I need per day based on my weight/height/activity level. So, I'm going to see how this works. Thanks for all of your input! Just like everything else on DIS...this thread is awesome!

Happy Saturday Everyone!

QOTD: One of my favorite motivation songs is "Change" by Taylor Swift. The lyrics are so inspiring!!!

Well, I maintaining again this week. Really wanted a loss, but I will work hard for next week.

I just got back from a DIS meet at Mall of America. We went ona tresure hunt and had a blast! It is fun to meet other Dis'ers.

I hope everyone has a magical day!!!

Molly

Good evening from rainy MA!

Had a fun day with friends, Harry Potter and more friends.

Ate too much, but I know I can work it off during the week. We went to Ca Pizza Kitchen for lunch with some friends before seeing the Harry Potter exhibit in Boston. DH and I shared a Caesar Salad and then shared a BBQ chicken with bacon pizza. Went to a Halloween Party and had a few slices of cheese pizza, some hard cider and a few chips and dip. No workouts but did some walking during the day.

Plan on doing the 2 or 3 mile WATP or 1-2 miles on the elliptical when I get up in the morning. It will depend on how my congestion is in the morning. Having DD2s 5th birthday party. I will have a piece of chocolate cake and then we're going to order some food when we get home with some friends, probably subs as I've had WAY too much pizza this week! Will probably eat a yogurt for b'fast.

I know that I can get refocused again on Monday. Meeting Redwalker for our walk at the mall on Wednesday so that will help me get it back together!

Hope those not feeling well get better soon! Have a great rest of the weekend!

QOTW: The theme song to "The Biggest Loser"

Sparkpeople.com is good. There is a place to put down what you eat and it will track it for you so you see what you have eaten in a day (calories, fats, etc).

Good Sunday morning all!

Well... I survived the birthday party. I did eat MORE than I intended, but it wasn't a total blowout. It was a Fall/Halloween/Mexican theme. I started with a small portion of each soup... gingered butternut squash that was actually a "light" recipe and it was delicious. Not sure what the other soup was... it looked lighter, with tomatoes and black beans, but I could tell on my lips and in my mouth that it had more fat, so I didn't eat much. (It is truly amazing how "fat" sensitive my mouth has become!! I never imagined it!)

For the main portion of dinner I had a two small portions of the vegetarian dish(can't remember exactly what it was... had mushrooms and spinach and seemed very light... no cheese that I could detect), a small portion of rice, a small portion of mexican lasagna, which I didn't finish because it just seemed too fattening (loaded with cheese) and a healthy portion of refried beans and fresh avocado. I was plenty full, but I didn't feel like I really went hog-wild. I also had a small glass of white wine, which I didn't actually want, but it was very tasty so I ended up finishing it!

I fully intended to skip dessert, but we hung around too long and while I managed to avoid the birthday cake and fancy cupcakes, I was LURED by the gingerbread trifle (strangely enough, I was craving gingerbread cake this week!! :confused3 ) It was delicious... unfortunately, I also finished DD AND DS's portions in addition to my own small serving! Other than the wine I only drank seltzer all night. And I stayed STRICTLY on plan for the earlier part of the day.

But here is the VERY SCARY part :scared1: I hopped on the scale this morning (what happened to my once-a-week-weighing plan??) and I was up ANOTHER THREE POUNDS!! Now either my body is really going wacky or my scale is totally nuts. How could one meal cause me to gain three pounds?? I am DEFINITELY going to be buying a new battery for my scale this week... at least that way I will know if it is me or the scale!!

I'm back OP with my food this morning. I had a bowl of fat free yogurt with a serving of fresh mango and 1 pt worth of chopped walnuts... very tasty. But as usual, hard to resist my family's weekend pancakes!!

I am SO not in the mood to exercise today, but I know it is a MUST. I think I will do two shorter WATP DVDs instead of one long one... I get bored too quickly with the long one. I think I'll do Walk and Jog, and the Walk and Kick... I like both of those. I think that will give me an hour overall.

I hope everyone else is doing well today. I will be spending the day (other than exercise) scrapbooking. I cleaned a lot yesterday and earlier this week... the laundry is ALMOST caught up, so I can "play" guilt-free! Have a happy day!.................P

It's gotta be the scale. Digital scales can be screwy. If I'm not sure about it, I'll just keep weighing myself and take the most consistent number. I know I can retain water like nobody's business too. Wish my laundry was done....I did transfer all my files to the new computer last night and am using the nekkid one now! So far so good. Need to put all my programs on though including antivirus (it's nekkie)
Am doing pretty well with food, only ate half of my stuffed chicken breast last night-- that is a first as I love these--apple almond stuffing wrapped with a piece of pepper bacon and bbq pepper seasoning. Just couldn't eat any more though. The night before sliced up tri tip and made some really good stirfry with veggies from the farms. Thanks again Donac for the cow this week- I am a very selfish person-not one of my better qualities so this is good for me.

Hi and happy weekend all! Its a beauty here, was supposed to rain but it held off. We removed our little ATV bridge over the Clonmel Creek for the winter, thankful for my brother and nephew's help and determined to get fitter and stronger!:thumbsup2
I have lots of inspirational songs but one that always makes me sing along is "That's Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews, here's a little bit:

I am Rosemary's granddaughter,
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My mommas still my biggest fan.
Sometimes, I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends that love me
And they know just where I stand,
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am.

So frustrating. Either the scale or something is sitting in you - that's as nice as I can put it.

It happens to me once in awhile. A food is bad/not digesting and I've seen as much as five pounds. And then the five can literally disappear overnight if my stomach digests. Both don't make sense of course.

And one can feel that b/c you feel heavy - not light - and often bloated. I'm sure you know all that! I'm smiling - I don't know why I just explained.

Anyway, so sorry. I can imagine how frustrating that must be.

QOTD: My TM time happens because of my ipod, I couldn't do it without it! The songs that motivate me change regularly. Right now I love Nickelback's "Gotta Be Somebody" and Sammy Hagar's "Your Love is Driving Me Crazy". Anything from the Sammy Van Halen era also gets me moving right now. Always looking for new tunes at a tempo I can run to...

Another small loss this week. I'm ready to post a big number again. I just need my eating to get me there.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Well, my Vikings lost, but they put up a heck of a fight!

Today I am helping my parents clean out their basement. Not easy, but alot of good exercise. I have been climbing alot of stairs.

I have read other posts of people frustrated with the scale. I am too!!!! But, I refuse to let it derail me. My goal is to be on the BL weigh in list week. I will work hard to do it.

I hope everyone has a Magical Sunday!!!!

I haven't done those in forever. I may have to break them out on my rest day from running this week. I kinda miss Leslie actually. I used to do her videos everyday for months and months.

I'll have to try and find those WATP DVDs. I only have the 1, 2, and 3 mile walks. I really enjoy them. I plan on doing the 2 and 3 mile tomorrow morning. Did nothing all weekend but we were celebrating DD2s b'day and seeing the HP exhibit. I put back on 3-4 lbs this weekend so I'll spend the week working my butt off. I KNOW I can do it though. I love that challenge and push myself to do it! I also have my Irish Step class tomorrow night so I will burn off some calories later tomorrow too!

QOT Weekend:

My workout music on my IPOD I usually listen to when mowing the lawn. I actually find if I'm doing the elliptical or Wii Fit that I need to watch a movie or a musical. I love working out to HSM3 or Mamma Mia or even Grease! Sometimes the movie Love Actually gets me through the workout too. For music I would listen to "I Like to Move It!" or songs from HSM3.

Hi all. Just wanted to check in. I am still on the wagon! :woohoo: Very excited about that. Dh and I even went to the grocery store together today...with our list. Plus we took all the loose recipes we have been accumulating and put them in a binder. We have been trying a bunch of new recipes lately. I also bought some brussel sprouts at the store. I really like them but have never cooked them before. My friend bakes them and I love how they turn out so that is what I am going to try! Hope everyone has a great day and don't forget to drink that water!

Sarah

I've just registered at EatTracker.ca - it's a way to journal my food plus exercise for the day and have it compared to The Canadian Food Guide and assessed. Then they give recommendations as to what you are missing (vitamins, fiber etc) I hope it helps me get OP!
I asked my sister if we could commit to buying and eating better food choices too. It's apple season and I love them.

I've been holding in the 170's long enough! In order to get my BMI down to the "overweight" and not in the "obese" I have to lose 10lbs. I'd like to get to the lower end of that group by Christmas.
Generally I'm always healthy, except for a bad back. My sister, on the other hand, is in a very healthy BMI, belongs and goes to her gym and yet always seems to be sick and very tired. She eats quite well so...... it certainly isn't all diet! She has high cholesterol (on meds) and this weekend we realized her BP is quite high (I measure mine 2x/week) She has a Dr's appt this morning to have it checked.
Its the start of a new week.:woohoo:

Hi all...just checking again, haven't been online...STILL sick ugh...unfortunately still eating though and eating + no exercise = gain:teacher:...calling the doc today to get new antibiotic and will be cutting back on my food as well.

Looking forward to reading and catching up on everyone's posts and qotd! :flower3:

Just wanted to come and report that I had a surprise when I hopped on the scale this morning. I was down .2 from Friday's weigh in. Not a huge deal but I was so worried about drinking my calories all weekend and giving in to temptation that one night and not getting in any exercise that I was pleasantly surprised there was no gain.
