Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

Just sayin' hi. Hi Kathy. :goodvibes
Hi Lisa!:wave2: It's great to see you again.

Hello, all! Some of you know me from my WISH Journal and from running the exercise challenges this year (feel free to join any time!) For those that don't, I'm 49, sahm, married, & have 3 kids, all at home - DS23 (my source of stress eating), DS20 and DD17. I've been on/off WW since 1/2003 and have never made goal since I'm up/down & can't seem to make it in more than about 1x/month.

Bought a BodyBugg last spring & it is a wonderful tool! Unfortunately, on 7/29, while on a cruise, I started breaking out in hives & still am. I have also apparently become allergic/sensitive, to the metal on the BB, so I haven't been wearing it much. And, I've been on Zyrtec for 6 weeks and gained 7+ lbs. :scared1: Somehow I have to get back in control!!
Hi Julie. How frustrating those hives must be. We all are going to get back in control this fall. This is our time to shine!! The exercise challenge has always been so motivating for me. I'll have to get back into that.
We'll be there for lunch and then the train due to DD1's and doconeill's soccer game at 9.
Maybe we'll see you there. Have you done any other dis-meets? It would be nice to meet some more local folks who are disney fanatics, and can understand my obsession.

I had an op weekend, but only have 7 points left after having a 19 point salad for lunch at the 99. It sounded pretty heallthy with grilled chicken, walnuts and sesame seeds, but the nuts were coated with a sugar/sesame coating and the chicken had a sweet sauce too. Oh well, it was good. I haven't used any activity points, and have earned 13 so far, so I should be ok. I'm really determined to stay within my points this week.

It's beautiful here in MA. My son just played his first soccer game, and we're going to head to my brothers so he can take a swim and cool off. Hope you're all having a good, on track sunday.

Hey everyone...I really need some motivation today!! I don't want to make healthy choices...I am done! (not really which is why I'm posting) I don't know why but I have the major don't-cares...I am down 14 pounds, which I think is great in my head but don't care right now...yell at me! It's been 4 weeks and I know that's great progress. Help a Wish-er stay on track!!

14 pounds in 4 weeks is AWESOME!! What are you having trouble with? The eating? The exercise? My advice for eating is maybe to get out of the house, take a walk, or even taking a long bath or reading a book just DO SOMETHING. And for the not wanting to exercise DO IT ANYWAY! Sometimes just starting out is all the motivation you need to finish. Maybe try something new? Buy yourself a new workout DVD (my choice is any of the Leslie Sansone In Home Walk / Walk Away...) Find a new hiking trail... Buy a few new MP3 to walk to...

But remember this is not a short term fix "diet" this has to be a long term lifestyle change. In life we will always have ups & down. So figure out different ways of dealing with the downs that work for you.

This is great advice. I had a plan to handle my "downs", but I just blew it this weekend. Completely off plan, almost from the moment I sent my weight in. Totally mental -- ok, not totally, but pretty much. Just eating without thought, not working out, it's not been a good weekend. That said, I know if I get my mind in the right place tomorrow it's not too late to recover. Two bad days don't have to equal a week. I clearly need a new plan, but step one has to be to just stop the insanity! :scared1:

QOTD:

1) The meaning of my name: I am a HUGE stitch fan and I put the year I was born, simple

2) Mini-goals: I actually havent thought of it just yet but I would like to be at least 20lbs by the end of this year at least :) I havent even started the COW with drinking water, I have done the 5 min to myself though by going on the DIS :) lol

But the main mini goal if not the weight I would like to be more active right now I am "too" lazy and dont wanna do anything and that is something that I need to change majorly :) I have a wii fit and I dont remember the last time I was on it lol :) might break it out after football since I dont work tomorrow :)

And as far as the weekend QOTD:

I dont plan ahead of time but I do try to plan what I will eat for the entire day though.
um... I think that is all this is my first doing somethign like this so I hope thats all :) haha well hope everyone ejoys the remaining of their weekend :)

Thanks. I went and checked out the other thread, and the train looks pretty cool. I'm trying to plan a weekend to visit my bro in western ma, so I'll firm up with him first, and then maybe go and meet some dis-ers.

Where in Western MA?? Are you Westfield related?? I just returned from a trip to Holyoke visiting my dad. Hopefully you can make the train tour.

We'll be there for lunch and then the train due to DD1's and doconeill's soccer game at 9.

I just read that on the DIS Unplugged Podcast side as I was going through the updates. Nice tie in between both threads. It will be good to meet/see you and your family. :cheer2:

Hey everyone, It has been busy over at our house! Yesterday we CLEANED all day long! Today we went out geocaching with friends and then drove to SIL's house to spend the afternoon with them and their brand new 50 baby chickens! DD loved that.

I haven't had a chance to read the posts, or answer any QOTD, I will try and catch up this week.

BUT I am asking for pixie dust for 2 things this week...

Tomorrow I have testing for TaeKwonDo. I have not exercised over the summer and have missed quite a few of TaeKwonDo classes, so I am really out of shape and I am worried about how well I will do in class during testing.

and second...

I have a job interview this week, so PLEASE send me your pixie dust, it will be a tough job to get, but I am hopeful. :goodvibes

Maybe we'll see you there. Have you done any other dis-meets? It would be nice to meet some more local folks who are disney fanatics, and can understand my obsession.

This is our first DIS meet! The soccer game is in Tyngsborough and we're planning on bringing a change of clothes for Ash so she won't have to be in her uniform all day. We're going to leave from there and head for lunch. We'll go to see the train afterwards!

If it should be raining and the game is canceled we will probably leave here by 7:30 to head to Boston. We are in Littleton. DH is the coach.

If I have time I'll make a shirt with tigger813 on the back. I already have a Tigger shirt that says Mommy so I can just add Tigger813 to that one so you can find me!

We're really excited about this!

Hope to see you there!

How's everyone doing? I just got back from a nice quiet bike ride by myself. Felt great, it was beautiful outside. My eating has been terrible this weekend and yesterday I didn't get all my water drank. I was shopping with my mom so I didn't drink much of anything at all with all that running around.

I hope everyone has a great week with big numbers coming in on Friday. (Losses that is.)

How's everyone doing?

Well, I got my water in. If I wanted to end on a positive note, I'd stop there.

My DS11's best friend is moving to Tennessee on Wednesday :sad1: so since the boys won't be seeing each other for a while, we had him spend the whole weekend here. That meant a weekend of tween food and treats, pizza and donuts and ice cream, because I wanted to make it as special/fun as possible for them. I was pretty good about resisting. I got myself a WW frozen pizza instead of sharing their double pepperoni deep dish, skipped the ice cream (okay, that one was easy - Superman is gross!) and the donuts, and managed to be pretty good about fitting in the veggies, but I did splurge on the brownies we made last night and some chips this afternoon.

On top of that, DH & DD1 are both fighting a bad cold, so I was basically the only functional parent with two 11yo boys, DD8, and a whiny/clingy DD1. Ugh. I did fit in a bit of walking, only a mile at a time twice, to give DD a chance to settle down and nap sitting up in her stroller when she was too congested to lay down comfortably. But this morning when we set out on our usual 3 mile round trip to the store, I couldn't make it more than a few blocks without getting winded and we ended up driving. Pair that with the sore throat that probably deserves the credit for me being so good with my water, and I'm pretty sure I'll be the one catatonic on the couch with a box of kleenex tomorrow.

On the bright side, DH isn't working tomorrow and will be heading over to his parents' to do some work on their house, and he's taking the baby with him. I'll have all day to myself while the big kids are at school. :cloud9: So if I'm feeling okay, I'll finish the last bit of painting in my girls' room, take a nice long walk, and get started on the new fall dress I'm making DD1. And if I'm not, at least I'll be able to sleep in peace!

Man this thread moves fast! LOL

Here we go with the QOTD:
I'm going with a 2-part question today. Since many of us don't know each other, I'll start with something simple: What's the meaning of your DisName? and for part 2: We have all set our own goals for this 14-week challenge, have you got a mini-goal to help measure success along the way? The goal could be a small weight loss, or exercising a number of times in a week, or a belt notch or . . . . .

Part 1:
I picked my username because I wanted something disneyish and when I was little I swore up and down I was Penny. LOL Since the DIS was my first forum the username has stuck and I go by Bernard&Bianca, MissBianca, and here people call me BAMB for short.

Mini mini goal is kind of silly but I want to gain control of late night snacking and the need to have something sweet after each meal. This is where some of my major problems are and I think if I can get a handle on this then other things will fall into place.

Well, I'd say you are a Rescuers fan? :confused3 I am also curious about what forum you moderate -- I don't get off the WISH boards or the DVC boards very often. ;)

Yep, I am a Rescuers fan! See above! LOL
And I moderate the Creative Community forums, cooking, gardening, interior decorating, arts and crafts, and Scrapbooking. It's a great place to hang out and I get to use my creative side.

FYI - I just got the app called Lose It!, it was free and it can keep track of your weight, calories burned (excersise), calories consumed and applies it to a goal you set for yourself. I have used it for 2 days and so far, it has helped me visualize and keep track of my how calories are effecting my weight loss.

Is anyone else using this?

I need to look into that. Thanks for the tip!

Here is a link to the info on the Alaska cruise from Disney cruises. http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/c...fic-coast/itineraries/7-night-alaskan-cruise/
I also want to go on that cruise! Now to convince DH!

I'm just going to post one QOTD for Sat/Sun:

Do you plan your menu daily, weekly or just make it up as you go?

I used to be better at planning weekly for dinner but I just can't wrap my brain around it anymore, too much going on.
We've always had a good stock of Breakfast stuff so that was no big deal. Lunch has been a free for all and that has been a big issue because we've done some kind of fast food every day this summer and that has so not helped! Dinner has been nightly since school got out but I need to change that. 2 weeks is too long, we do better weekly.
We just started shopping at Trader Joe's (organic grocery store) but it's an hour away so we only go once every few weeks.

Where in Western MA?? Are you Westfield related?? I just returned from a trip to Holyoke visiting my dad. Hopefully you can make the train tour.
They are in florence/northhampton. My sister in law is from that area. We are in danvers on the north shore. I think it would be fun to go on the train tour, and I'm going to try and make it.

pixiedust:pixiedust:Good luck with the interview. I'm sure you'll do fine with withthe taekwondo. I remember your beautiful trophy you won last year.
50 baby chickens! How cute. Reminds me of the county fair coming up and they always have a bunch of hatching eggs in an incubator to watch.

I'll talk with my brother this week, but I'm hoping we can visit him columbus day w/e and do this. We'll most likely do the am train, and lunch.

Sounds like you did really well with all of those temptations. Hope you and the clan are feeling better soon.

How's everyone doing?

Not so well. I'm trying to get the water in but we drove to NJ to get a car Friday so we drove for 8 hours round trip, 1 bottle of water was enough for me! LOL Of course the new car has a huge steering wheel which is original to the car(1960 Mini) but DH said he thought I would need a smaller one. That stung even though I know he didn't mean it that way. But between the short legs and the big belly it's not a good sign. I think I will get in the car this week without DH there to see if I need to get a new steering wheel.

My job this coming week is to get the house squared away while DH is gone, it has been neglected way to long and it will be a fabulous work out. Also on my list is taking stock of the fridge, freezer, and pantry. Make a grocery list and get to the store. The boys have decided to take lunch this year so I need to make lunches for them so I think I will eat some of the same things.

baby steps, baby steps.

Oh and all three boys made the cross country team!! I have to be at every practice and event because DS7 is technically not supposed to be on the team because he's only in 3rd grade but he kept up with the 8th graders! So I'm thinking of walking on Monday and Wednesday when the boys have practice and running with the boys on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. That way they train and so do I.

Mini mini goal is kind of silly but I want to gain control of late night snacking and the need to have something sweet after each meal.

Late night snacking. Yeah a problem for me mostly when I get home from work after 9 pm. I kind of solved that with a glass of wine and a small sanck-- whatever I'm wanting the most, and how much I ate for lunch.
The thing about the need for something sweet after every meal...I'm glad I'm not the only one. Really, thought I was odd. Soemtimes for me just candy is enough- one little roll of smarties or something works. Also sugarless gum.

disneychrista already gave some great advice! I hope Monday's QOTD will help you out as well (it'll be in my next post) :goodvibes

okay, here comes Monday's Question of the Day:

What motivates you on your weight loss journey?

For me, there's many reasons:
- I want more energy
- I want be healthy and be a good example for my DD's
- I want to feel comfortable in a bathing suit

If you struggle with staying motivated, I recommend writing down your reasons for starting this journey. Then when you start to struggle go back and read those reasons.
Another technique I was taught is: when you want to eat poorly or not exercise, ask yourself, do I want the cookies or do I want to lose weight. Most of the time, my answer is "I want to lose weight!).:goodvibes

I hope everybody has a great Monday!

- I want to feel better physically
- I want more energy
- I want to do this for dh, he had told me he wanted me to me to take
better care of myself

I did one good thing Saturday. While dgd was having her 30 minute swim lesson instead of sitting there watching her I walked around the pool the whole 3o mins.

Good luck this week.

I hope everyone had a good first weekend. Mine started off a lot rougher than I would have liked. My mom visited for the weekend and we were out doing things a lot so we ate out a lot more than we normally would have. I think I did a pretty good job of portion control and making much smarter decisions than I previously would have. Having said that, it definitely wasn't the way I wanted to start this challenge.

She is going home tomorrow morning and I'm starting the day off at the gym. I just added on to my wife's membership and look forward to taking some classes. I'm in physical therapy for my knee right now so I can't do nearly as much running as I would like so I really want to supplement my workouts with swimming, yoga, pilates, and biking/spinning classes.

I had a 10K race planned for today but decided to skip it as my physical therapist told me not to run until she sees me again on Tuesday. I really wanted to but I didn't want to risk making my knee any worse. I have a half marathon coming up in five weeks and wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize my ability to compete in it. It will be the first anniversary of my first half marathon so I want to see how much I have progressed over the year.

redwalker - I love walking as well. I try to walk 30 minutes every day during my lunch break. Not only is it a good low-impact exercise, it's also a great way to get away from work and it's stresses, and get some fresh air and sunshine.

I see a new QOTD snuck in as I typed this...what motivates me on my weight loss journey? My journey really has been just that, a journey. I used to be 65 lbs heavier. My triglycerides and cholesterol were through the roof. I was put on medication and was told (at 27 years old) that I would most likely be on medication the rest of my life. I didn't want to accept that and started working on losing weight and improving my health. It was very gradual and took about five years but I eventually lost 40 pounds and was able to stop taking my meds.

I went through a rut and gained a bit back when my daughter was born. I maintained my weight at that point and my triglycerides and cholesterol stayed at the high end of normal.

About a year and a half ago, it hit me that it wasn't fair to put my daughter through the same scares my DW and I are having about our parents' health. That's when I took up running and have lost 35 pounds since, 17 of it with the help of the inspiration I got from the BL 7 challenge (thanks again!)

My last blood test a few months ago showed I was no longer anywhere near the high marks and was very much in the normal which was an amazing feeling. I still have about 15 pounds I would like to lose.

So to make a short story long (as I often do), my biggest motivation is being there a long time for my 3yo daughter. I'd like for my grandkids to struggle to keep up with me at WDW someday!

-steve
