Biggest Chicken Ever lost bet - now has to ride a coaster....Thanks Everybody!!

Well, guess I am going to have to ride Mummy again and again to see if I can guess who Dark Marauder is ::yes::

There are only 2 of you, right?:teeth:
Right. Just remember that the scarabs, like everything in the temple, are cursed.

Well, here's one for you. The last time I rode a carnival ride was 1985. I have never been on a roller coast. I am going to WDW and Universal in Jan. I am determined to go on all rides that the kids (15,17,25) will want to go on. Hopefully I'll live. Wish me luck on my adventure.

Hang in there Decaff38!

That is the nice thing about having kids. They make you rethink things that you never, ever, in your wildest dreams thought you may do. And much to your surprise, you may end up liking it.

I survived Mummy (slowly becoming my favorite ride). I even survived the back row of Hulk...and amazingly, but to nobody else's surprise on this thread, I actually thought it wasn't half as bad as I feared. I may even go on it again:crazy:. Didn't even need that happy hour or defibulator.

So, have fun with your kids. You will survive it and you may even like it :-)

Off Topic - I noticed you were from Bimidje. Our good friends have a resort in Cass Lake. My kids think a week fishing on Leech Lake is just as good as a week at Universal. Go figure.

Good Luck! Keep us posted.

.... No Longer a Coaster Hater

Way to go, goofy!:cheer2: We knew you could do it. I'll bet your kids were really proud of you.

Congrats on facing your fears, Goofy !!! :jumping1:

I'm sure your kids will always remember this trip !!:smooth:

. . . who knows what's next ;) ! . . . .

Thanks Everybody!!

Due to all your great advice, I had a wonderful trip. Became a Mummy addict (Is there a Mummies Anon?), Survived Hulk (and secretly liked it), and had the best time ever. It is amazing how much more fun you can have when you actually try all the rides. Ok, Ok, I still did not even attempt the good doctor. Got to save something for next year.

So, a great big thanks to everybody for all the helpful hints!!

Hope I'm as brave as you when I'm in Orlando!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

I too am trying to work up the courage to try the Hulk. This thread has been very helpful. I do like smaller coasters and log type rides (i.e. Space Mt, Splash Mt, Jurassic Park) and can't wait to try the Mummy. I've even survived RNR a couple of times! But the "big" coasters really scare me!

So, just how much more intense/scary is the Hulk compared to RNR.

Motherfletcher- you named some of the inversions in a earlier post on this thread. I was wondering if you could describe what these inversions are (what's a cobra roll, carousel, etc?)

Thanks!

I'm not hip on terms like "carousel" to describe inversions, but can explain them in other terms:

Vertical loop: your standard loop. A large O shape, basically.

dl09.jpe

Barrel roll: fighter jets do this. It is a quick twist to one side and you keep turning until you've done a 360. Often called zero G rolls.

Cobra roll: think of how a cobra's head is shaped. In a cobra roll, you go up at an angle, do a corkscrew, travel to the other side, corkscrew again, then dive down.

Corkscrew: a tight loop. Much smaller than vertical loops.

That should cover your 4 basic inversion types.

Hiya DM.......love your pics and descriptions........have to say though that the pics will "scare the pants" off of some!!! :teeth:

DM. You are the best!::yes::

I love looping coasters, ride them whenever I get the chance and have always heard the various terminology but because no one had ever put the terms together with visuals, I didn't really know which was which. So now I know that I'm just fine with vertical loops, corkscrews (I kind of knew what they were) and even a cobra roll. It's those barrel rolls that get me; I just never had a name to give them. Guess I'd better re-think any fighter jet pilot aspirations:p

Again, thanks for the descriptions and visuals.

OMG, I think that I need to get my eyes examined...I read that you have a hard time typing correctly on DH's lap.... Hmmm, all I'm going to say about that! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Mmmm...Ok...That too.
However, this time it was a family vacation. Only going to admit to riding the Hulk on this vacation.

Goofy, yep I understand about those family vacations. :teeth:

Glad that you tried and liked a couple of coasters. I'm actually a lot more daring now than I was in my younger days and I'm the one trying to convince my children to go on the wild coasters. My two older kids (13 and 16yo) love them, my 10yo is a weenie, but improving, and my 4yo is a daredevil, but too little to do much (he's in training, though, and will my coaster buddy for years to come).

DM, thanks for the visuals of the loops (I can't even imagine what loops the Storm Runner at Hershey Park had. Yikes!). I will show that to my 10yo who finally went on his first upside down coaster at Hershey Park last week (nevermind that it was the Superdooperlooper and his 4yo brother also went  ). My 10yo has promised to go on Rock N Rollercoaster the next time we are at WDW and I'm hoping he can then work his way to the bigger coasters.
