Biggest Chicken Ever lost bet - now has to ride a coaster....Thanks Everybody!!

Unfortunately, I lost a bet to my DS14, actually more of a bribe, but now I have to live with my big mouth. I now have to ride one of the "big 3" coasters. For a person that closes their eyes on Unicorn, which of them is the lessor of 3 evils? (Don't care for heights, so the thought of those high, high, high coasters is daunting.)

DH is trying to convince me that, except for the launch, Hulk is the best for a world's biggest chicken. DS says Ice. Both say Fire is not a good starting point. Of course, the knowledge that somebody died on Hulk last year (I know, I know - pre-existing health circumstances) does not make this die-hard chicken eager to ride it.

BTW, I did survive the drop on JP last year - didn't like it, but wasn't too bad - it was over so quickly. DH and DS are trying to convince me that the drop on JP is much worse than anything on any of the coasters.

Do I believe them, or are they trying to pull the wool over Dear 'Ol Mom's eyes?

The wisdom of the experienced on this board would be much appreciated

I agree with your husband about Hulk. The initial takeoff is fast, but the coaster is pretty smooth. The Dragons pretty much scare me and my 9 year old (who loves the Hulk). I just don't like the feeling of my feet dangling.

Not to make you feel worse, but to me, JPRA doesn't come anywhere near making feel like the coasters after. The drop is intense, but after the coasters, I am literally shaking and wobbly walking. Good Luck!

Of the three, I would think that the Hulk would be your best bet for your first ride. With either Fire or Ice being inverted coasters, your feet are dangling so you feel more exposed. At least on Hulk you're inside the car. Also, I find the sloooooow lift up the hill on Fire/Ice to be much worse than the great launch up the first hill of Hulk. (I happen to love it, even though I'm also afraid of heights.)

I haven't been on any of Universals coasters (well, I have done Woody's and Flying Unicorn) but if I were going to go on one of the big ones I'd go on Hulk. I think I'd feel safer on it than one with my feet dangling down!

I love the Hulk. Scary, but fun. It is the less of the three evils though! how about the Mummy? Would that count as a coaster? Technically, part of it is.

What is is about husbands and sons? The more you don't want to ride something, the more they make it their life's mission to get you on it. I guess I should be thankful that it's not Pteradon (sp?) Flyers! For this #1 chicken of heights, THAT is my worst nightmare!

Perhaps I can get lost in the bowels of MIB. If any of you see a crazy, desperate, middle aged woman, resorting to stealing room keys so that she can ride MIB all day with FOTL next week, and hiding from DH and DS, that would probably be me.

Goofy - I feel your pain!

My DS13 swears up and down that I "promised" that I would go on Mummy! WHAT? Now why would I go and do that? MUMMY? Right. I will not even try JP! I did do Rock N Roller Coaster last year and that was more that enough.

Good Luck! And tell him that you know for sure that Spiderman IS a roller coaster!

You are so right. Spiderman absolutely IS a rollercoaster. It does have that enormous drop at the end. You know, the one right before Spiderman catches you? Yup, that's the ticket. Spiderman it is.

Got an idea. Let's meet up at the parks and go hide out for a while. Have a nice drink or two. Then I will vouch for you that you rode Mummy if you will vouch for me that I rode Hulk.

It just might work.

Another vote for the Hulk !!!

I spent my whole life (well, the 1st 48 years) believing that I could not survive an 'upside down' coaster. DS (then 13) and I were on a mom/son trip to USF - he had endured a long year bravely facing and conquering many medical challenges, so when he asked me to 'challenge' my own fears and ride one of the coasters with him, what could I say??? (and still have any credibility left!)

I was so panicked in line I thought I would throw-up! But shortly into the ride I was loving it so much I turned and gave him the 'thumbs up' - when we got to the end and looked at our picture - there I was with a big smile on my face, giving him my 'thumbs up' - just as the picture flashed !! It's one of my favorite pictures ever - reminds me to always try everything at least once - we went right over to Fire/Ice and I loved them even more !

Hulk is extremely smooth and you feel very securely held in - try it - if you don't enjoy it, you never have to ride again, but you may also join the 'coaster lovers' like I did !!!

I am afraid of heights also, but coasters don't bother me too much. I would recommend the Hulk as well. The launch is the scariest thing about the ride, the rest seems pretty tame to me. It did bang my head a lot the first ride but this helped- hold your head back against the seat for the launch and first drop, then lean your head forward through the rest of the ride. The Dragons are my favorite, but if you ride in the front there is a pause right before the drop that takes my breath away because of the height. I used to be a coaster chicken too, but now I love them and realize how much I missed out on by not riding.

If you sit at the front and keep your eyes open your brain has an easier time assimilating the information. I used to be very afraid of coasters and now I can ride them all, but front row and eyes open. I've converted a few other "older" moms by convincing them of this. Believe me, it works.

I don't find the Hulk to be a head banger and I keep my head back in the center of the support.

Problem is, then they want you to go on everything and you will!!!

We just got back from King's Island (and a disappointing tournament) and I didn't ride the Beast or SOB. Joel, my 15 yo, informed me that they were too rough for me You see, your kids like to stretch your limits but won't make you do something beyond your limits.

My kids said for Christmas they wanted me to ride a coaster for their present. I fretted like you, did the research and asked for opinions.
I ended up riding Krakken first thing in the morning after taking Dramamine. That wasn't enough for my kids though. My DD10 said that the Krakken ride was for my son and I had to ride one for her. So the next day I did the same thing on the Hulk. I think it helped going first thing in the morning and being in the front seat. I think the Hulk was the better of the two and it was reflected in my face on the photos that we bought of both.
If you are going to only do it this once you should ride in the front and keep your eyes open.
Caution:
When you get off you could be walking sideways for a while.
You might want to request a defibulator at the exit.

I so wanted to come in this thread and just say "PWNED!", but it's too late for that.

But I do agree, go for the Hulk. It is quite smooth, and the launch makes it better. And if you could handle RnR, then Mummy will be cake to you!

The drop on JPRA is MUCH taller and steeper than anything the Mummy has to offer. If you made it through RnRC, you can certainly ride the Mummy. The coaster part of Mummy is no worse than BTMR and much smoother.

You really should ride the Mummy. It is an awesome ride and based on what you've ridden, you should enjoy it also.

Hulk it is. I agree that I would probably feel safer in an enclosed area rather than with my feet dangling over the parks. BTW - did they ever find that guy's leg last year?

It seems the happy hour thread showed new life at just the right time. Now...anybody know of Happy Hour BEFORE the parks open? If not, I may need the Happy Hour AFTER I ride to recover. Heck, if I am going to walk sideways after the ride, I may as well have another reason for walking sideways besides a ride on the Hulk.

Thanks for the inspiration. My son, while not facing serious medical challenges, also challenged himself at one of his sports and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Which is why I must ride to also keep my credibility. Our bet was if he challenged himself, I would then challenge myself to ride a coaster. He won.

Don't worry the length of the ride is only 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
They launch you out of a 150' cannon and compare it to an F-16.
The top speed is 67 MPH.
The ride features 7 inversions including 1 weightless roll, 1 cobra roll, 1 360 degree carousel, 1 inclined loop, 1 high speed carousel, and 2 loops.
The coaster has one of the highest inversions ever built at 109 feet.
The height of the coaster is 110-feet.
The drop height is 105-feet.
The ride produces 4g’s.
The steel frame is hollow which makes the roaring sound that can be heard inside the rooms at RPR as the coaster growls down the track.
Bring a change of clothes!
