Big Thunder Ranch: Thumbs up or Thumbs Down?

Thumbs down:confused3 Although I give every all you can eat buffet the same rating:sad2:

How are the ribs? Does the meat fall off easily? Does the chicken taste freshly cooked?

How does the table seating work? If we go, it will just be two adults and one under two. Will we have to share a table with another group?

Thanks!

I usually have trouble with ribs, but these just melt in your mouth. The chicken is delicious & juicy (and freshly cooked)

The tables are picnic tables & each family/party gets there own table.

How is the food compared to Taste Pilot's? DH thinks this sounds great... but he's afraid I'll make him skip TPG and he'll miss out. :rotfl2: Silly man. I may have to promise him both.

I love TPG and I would chose the BBQ over that anyday.....LOVE the BBQ!!!!! DBF and I do anyway, the girls aren't fans at all so normally DBF and I will, eat and eat and eat while the girls go ride rides that we are planning on skipping. :)

DBF and I are a party of 2, we get a picnic table to ourselves. Altho we always say "we can share if you have another party that won't mind a community table", we have yet to have it happen. :)

We  the BBQ.....it's very good and yes, it's all you can eat. I love the coleslaw they have!! Portions are generous and if you want more of any one item just ask for it, the ribs are very good, I'm very picky about my meat and I love the ribs. :) Chicken too, it's always been very good.

My husband and daughter are picky eaters but are fans of the baby back ribs at Tony Roma's.
How do these compare?

The food looks amazing! I have been wanting to eat there since it was a character type meal in '09 I think..? We made reservations for June finally!

Question about the cornbread, it looks great but DH is worried there are whole kernels of corn in it... that texture just doesn't sound good and we've had cornbread like that before. ??

Hopefully someone that has had both styles will answer this.....I'm clueless since I've never had Tony Roma's!

You know, I can't remember.....I remember it being sweet & think I remember a texture to it.....but really can't remember if there were chunks of corn in it or not. I'm not a huge cornbread eater....so maybe someone that loves it can remember.

Last seating depends on park closing hours. 6:40 - 7:00 pm when the park closes at 8:00, as late as 8:30 when then park closes late.

I'm thinking of trying this out with our family during our December trip, but am also worried about the temp.

A few questions I'm sure someone can answer.

What time do they start serving dinner?
What is the show schedule?
Do they do anything special for the meal for the holidays and reindeer roundup?
Is it exciting enough to entertain an almost 4 and 5 year old plus 17 month old? :rotfl: (I'm sure Laurie can answer that one!)

Thanks so much!

Dinner starts at 4:00. There is no break between lunch and dinner - in fact, if you get seated at 3:50 and want the dinner menu you can get it - might have to wait a couple of minutes for the smoked sausage and corn on the cob, but they may be ready when you get seated.

The entertainers usually start about 12:15 to 12:30. On days when the park closes at 8:00, they start when the restaurant opens at 11:30.

Just ate there for the first time last week - the cornbread did have an occasional smallish kernel and was really delicious ( probably my favorite part of the meal!) Lunch was $20 less the AP discount and the meat did indeed fall of the bone on the ribs. But the real shocker was we accidently got way more than we asked for on our last refill --not sure what happened but they brought more of everything, not just the beans and ribs we asked for - and then they let us take it to go as one poster mentioned - so if you're staying nearby or you're a local and have a microwave you'll have a nice snack later on.

I ate so much I didn't need dinner that night.

I didn't go for a long time because I fondly remember the old BTMR barbeque where I'd split a huge meal ( included beef ribs then too ) with my 2 young sons and get away pretty cheaply. Downside of the all you can eat is no sharing anymore of course.

We tried to go last year and it just didn't work out. I'm really hoping we'll be able to eat here this year!!!

My husband and I ate there for lunch last summer and really enjoyed it. The ribs were tender and delicious as was the chicken. It was so good I wanted to take the kids there when we went again in January. Unfortunately they were closed during the week. So for anyone going during the off season, be prepared they might be open only on weekends.

We were there a month ago to the day. Although we did have reservations at 5:00, I'd say that only about 20% of the tables had people sitting at them, so reservations are probably not important in off-season, but probably a good idea in the summer.

The food was great! I love real BBQ, and loved this food. We ended up ordering the cobbler (as someone said already, order it about half way through to give them time to cook it) for dessert as well and took back to the hotel more than half of it just because it ended up being too much food after that meal. ;) It was almost as good the next day.

The entertainment was cute, and our 16 month old really liked watching it. It was running when we arrived, and came on again towards the end of the meal.

This will definitely be a repeat on our next trip, whenever that is.
