Hi everyone. I am working on training to walk the 2008 Donald and lose some (alot) of weight as well. I am currently very much in excess of 300lbs and have been wearing New Balance 843s. As my walking has gotten a little longer in distance and time, I've noticed the outsides of my feet begin to hurt. I checked out one running store and after trying on a few pairs of shoes (can't remember all the names), the Brooks Beast 2007 running shoe felt good (although I did not use them for a long distance). I do plan on checking one other running store that does a more detailed gait analysis etc.

Can any other Pooh sized/Big guys (or anyone else) suggest running or walking shoes that might be worth looking at. I know everyone is different, but I just want to be able to know what is out there and has been suucessful (wear, comfort, etc) for others.

Thank you.

I'm a slightly less than Pooh sized female, but my Mizuno Wave Nirvanas have great outside of the foot support. You may want to look into the male version. WHile some places indicate which sheoes are for which weight range, I don't buy it. I'm sure a pair from Target would not likely work, but no one training should be using those. ;) Good luck!

The beast are good for heavier runners, but they are more pronation oriented. It you are getting pain on the 5th mets you might be over compensating on your motion control and have more supination. If you have access to a place with gait analysis that would be my best suggestion. If you already heavier and supinate more, you are losing the shock absorbtion of the "ideal" gait cycle through pronation and will need more cushioning because of the excess weight and also because of supination. For more cushioning, the Ascics Gel nimbus(don't qoute me on these spellings), addidas addistar or supernova cushion, New Balance 1061's(I think, I'm using them but they and the number are at home ,just came out in March) Brooks dyad or glycerin are some off the top of my head.

Without seeing you walk, it's also possible you do need to control pronation and are having pain through enthusiastic overuse. I know that doesn't tell you a lot but if that other store is easilly accessible, a good gait analysis will make a world of difference on shoe choice. The good shoes are expensive, but they are cheaper then a new patient office visit and aren't you worth it?:)

Seems like you've got a wealth of advice. Let us know what you finally end up using.

Congratulations on Going for the Donald!

I have had good luck wih Asics, but I really recommend finding a good running store that specializes in running equipment and clothing. The best shoe of any brand if it is the wrong type for your feet!
