I love love love love this show!!! I agree that Nikki is just trying to get attention. Maybe to distract from her 58K in credit card debt. I also think Roman's youngest wife is a little creepy. She either knows too much or just doesn't care.

No, I think Nikki is jealous of Barb getting all the "extra special attention" from Bill . She seems like she can't stand the two kids she already has, let alone wanting to get pregnant again! I love this show.

I like the show, too, but honestly am confused about the Roman storyline. I missed the pilot episode. Did they explain what is going on in the pilot? Also, Roman is Nikki's dad?

The storyline is that Bill borrowed the money to start his business from Roman, part of the deal included Bill marrying Niki. It also seems like Roman was getting some sort of sustained payments from Bill also, even though the debt was paid. It was a percentage of the business. Well when Bill opened the second store, Roman wanted the same deal, Bill told him it was a separate entity and Roman was entitled to none of it. Hence the problems.

Love love love the show!! There is another thread around here that was discussing it. Bill Paxton is a hottie- I just love him. Something is going to happen with Ben and Margene, I can't wait! Next week Barb finds out about Nikki's debt. It just keeps getting better and better!

Thanks for clarifying what I thought I saw about Nikki taking a BCP... I was starting to doze by that point. I get to watch it again either tomorrow night or on demand.

I love how Nikki keeps pawning off her two kids on Margie. Loved the scene in the grocery store... the most inept of the wives is the one who is always saddled with everyone's kids.

And... why do they not have a lawn???

When are Ben and Margie going to hook up? Is that allowed in this type of family?

The way I understand it is it started as just Bill and Barb. Barb got cancer and could not have anymore children. Nikki came to live with Bill and Barb, fell in love with Bill and asked Barb about a second wife. Since she loved Nikki for taking care of her she agreed. Bill was having problems with the medical bills and the store so Roman loaned him money in return for a percentage of the stores profit. Bill feels the deal is only on the first store. He went out of his way to franchise the second store so as to not come under the deal he had with Roman. Roman says the second store and all future stores are subject to the deal so there is the fight. Francine ? was an employee at Bills first store and was having problems in life and Bill consoled her and eventually fell in love with her. He got the other two wives approval and married the third wife. The previews are interesting as it looks like Bills threat to Roman is going to come back and bite him because his brothers name is on all the illeagal land deals. Also it looks like Nikki's CC problem is going to come out and it may be the reason she said she wanted to add another soul to the family. In the preview she begs Barb not to tell Bill because if he finds out he will kick her out.

Funny, I was just talking about this show last night to DH.

We have TIVO'd every episode since they started and we were laughing b/c we just haven't gotten around to watching them. Well, I watched epsiode one last night and I am HOOKED!!!

I will have to stay away from this thread until I catch up.

Funny, I just watched last Sunday's episode this afternoon.

Sparks are definitely flying from Ben about Margene, it will be interesting to see what happens there.

And Bill's (store manager?) is going to be a problem in upcoming episodes I'll bet.

There are so many ways they can take this now. I was wondering today if Bill's brother will take another wife. It would be interesting to see how it all gets started.

I love the show, but the Roman/money storyline is pretty weak. I hope something better happens there.

I don't remember that part of the scene, but I think there have been a couple of moments where Barb has showed some conflict regarding a plural marriage. Once with Sarah, and the other with Margene, she seemed less than fully convinced that this was what she truly wanted.

I also find it interesting that when the ice cracks in the open, they all skate in their own direction, but Barb and Bill are on the same side, while Nikki and Margene have their own ice pieces.

I loved the "Affair" episode, and watching them fall in love all over again. Bill seemed like such a teenager when he was playing that music for Barb in the hotel room.

Bill's Mom is a really funny character. I had always loved Bruce Dern too! I wish we could get some more information on that part of the family. Looks like Roman has entangled Bill's brother more that he's(the brother) willing to admit. Can't wait to see how Nikki's debt revelation will be resolved. I can not imagine Barb keeping it a secret from Bill. The birth control pill thing is interesting. Nikki needs some kind of wake up call. Could it be that her mother is right? lol!

Did anyone watch the Making of Big Love? It gave some background that the show hasn't revealed yet. It was really interesting and makes watching each week more fun.

The reason for the second wife is that Barb became sick. They felt guilty for not having another wife while they were praying for her healing. Sort of a bargain with God, get me well and....
Third wife was part of deal with Roman as she's his daughter.

I think she was referring to their affair, not the family although it took me seeing Nikki smiling to realize that.

Actually, Nikki is the 2nd wife. She was sent to help out when Barb had cancer. As part of his business deal with Roman, Bill agreed to keep her on as his wife.

Margi was an employee in his first store (and a lousy one at that) who was having some personal problems. Bill took her under his wing and she started doing some babysitting for the family. Later, he married her.
