My 9yo DD was diagnosed early December with a kidney after having lots of visible blood in her urine. She was told to drink water, drink water, drink water. She felt fine except for the occasional "pain in my side". Tuesday night she said her side hurt and starting vomiting from 9pm until 4am Wednesday. Took her to the hospital for a sonogram and they said the stone had moved and is in her lower E junction? . I spoke with the urologist this morning and they want to laser zap this stone, which is a BIG 7.7mm, to break it up. We are meeting with him on Monday morning and it will be scheduled for next week. I hope she doesn't have pain before then.

ANY prayers and pixie dust for my little one, Dana, will be so appreciated. I will post updates.

***UPDATE***

Dana is home and relaxing! She is a brave girl, much braver than I was. I was able to go into the OR with her and be there for her as she fell asleep. I really don't know why they don't medicated the parent that goes in with them as they get put to sleep!!!lol Afterwards the doctor told us the stone (turned out to be 7.2mm, still big) was blocking her ureter just before the bladder. He showed us a picture of it that was taken with an internal camera and it was very jagged.. he said it probably could have perferated her as it passed. He was able to zap it into tiny pieces and he removed the larger ones. She has a stent inside of her that will be removed on Monday. Dana is a tiny bit uncomfortable at times, but doing well.

Here is a picture of Dana and her doll "Ashley". Ashley has gone everywhere with Dana since birth. The doctors let Ashley stay right next to Dana in the OR - and why not, Ashley was in her hospital get up too! lol

Awwww..I teach this age child and I feel so bad for her. P and PD for you both. Poor thing! pixiedust:

Aww, poor little girl. Prayers have been sent. Hopefully she can get rid of the kidney stone soon.

Sympathy to you and your daughter!

Why couldn't it be zapped before she was in pain. Could it be reasonably expected to dissolve?

BIL missed most of his WDW trip because of kidney stones that were only scheduled to be zapped after it wrecked his trip.

 I'm so sorry for your little one. I have had many kidney stones, but none so large that I couldn't pass. I totally understand the pain she is feeling. I hope that it is resolved soon.

Has she ever had a stone in the past that could be analyzed? Finding out the type of stone can be helpful (sometimes) in preventing them. I have calcium oxylate stones. One doctor told me that the experts used to believe that these stones were caused by having too much calcium. Now they believe that its actually due to a calcium deficiency and the body is trying to store the calcium. In addition to my regular daily vitamin, I take a daily calcium supplement. In my own personal experience, I have found a significant drop in stone occurances.

Awwww... Prayers and lots of pixie dust coming your way...........

 That is such a shame, your poor DD. I hope that everything goes ok for her and that she is pain free until she can have the stone zapped. :goodvibes

Thank you all.

Tina: We did a 24 hour urine and sent it to LithoLink, kidney stone analysis center?, and they said it was calcium. The doctors have said it has nothing to do with her drinking milk, it has to do with salt intake. So we are watching her salt now. We don't ever add it to our foods and don't eat the fast food garbage but it is in so many things.

WishedILivedin FL: We saw a Naphrologist when the blood in the urine started and he was the one that ordered the first sonogram. He saw there was a stone and "treat" it with drinking water so it would pass. He never mentioned seeing a urologist and said it would pass on its own with no problem.

Thank you all.

Oh, your poor DD. I hope she's ok until the stone can be taken care of. On a side note, I thought kidney stones were basically an adult male problem.

Felicia, I hope your DD passes the stone and is feeling better soon. Hugs to you both!

So sorry to hear that about Dana, Felicia. My best for her that she feels better, real soon. She's in my prayers, along with you and your mom. Hope you both are doing well also.

 Ouch...I hope all goes well with the procedure and she is feeling better soon.

I hope she's pain free soon.
