BIG hair

My favorite "big hair" from a movie:

:rotfl2: Everything about that movie screams 80's! The shoulder pads, the hair, the shoes. And you have to love the overdone accents. :rotfl2:

I was actually socially ostracized because I didn't have big hair.
I wore my non-colored mousy brown hair straight, long, and flat. I was made fun of because I didn't have big hair.

Yep. Been there done that. I have had and will die having thin, fine, pin straight hair that looks worse gunked up with product. :confused3

I wear it in a careful style these days, but back then, I just let it grow. One of the early learning sessions that convinced me following the crowd was a bad idea. :confused3

I thought then, and I still think now that those overly processed, permed, and funked up 'dos looked ridiculous.

There are people with full, thick curly hair, that is natural. Beautiful! Faking it never is pretty.

With my 20 year reunion coming up, some of my Facebook friends and I were going through some old pictures from highschool. God my hair was so embarrassing! It was huge. I used SO much hairspray everyday, Aqua Net aerosol (of course) Extra Super Hold in the pink can! I teased and picked and fluffed my do and then sprayed it until it was this massive poofed out helmet! It was literally hard as a rock! I wore so much makeup....I wouldn't be seen without my trademark "neon pink" lipstick.

I'm looking forward to seeing all my old classmates, but I know everyone is gonna bring up my hair! Oh well! Can anyone explain why we did this? Why was this hairstyle so popular? Big hair has got to be the most embarrasing hairstyle in history.

Did anyone else have hair like this? Have you "lost" all of those pictures

...gosh, I love Jersey girls! [ ;)]

Do any of you remember the butane curling irons that you could carry in your purse? My "bff" had one, and we would actually plan to sign out to the bathroom at a certain time to touch up our hair and re-spray it.

Ha! I stole my mom's so I could have one at school!

I graduated in 96, so, as another poster said, it was in jr high, beginning of HS. My fresh and soph pics have the huge hair and by jr year, it was tame. Amazing the difference a year can make! :thumbsup2

I LOOOOVE the "bump" look that is in these days - my hair looks so good like that.

I graduated in 1990, and I had big hair and the curly perm. Double whammy! My hair is short and straight now.

However, I don't like to consider myself a fashion don't. I think it was timeless. :rotfl::rotfl: After all, my Senior picture and my Mom's senior picture in 1962 isn't too different.

Of course, it could just mean that both my Mom and I had terrible hairstyles. :) :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

....ummmmmm, errrrrrrr, uhhhhh, don't take this the wrong way, but I think your DD is headin' in the same direction with hairstyle.....;)

...You could grasp ONE strand of hair and lift up my entire bangs after I was done with the hairspray!!....

....DARN! Where IS that dang-blasted Tag Fairy when you NEED her??!?!

I :lovestruc this thread! It's so funny to look back at what we thought looked good. I graduated high school in 1992, so right at the height of the "big hair" revolution :lmao: I was an Aussie scrunch spray follower, though- no Aqua Net here.

Ok, I'll share a picture. I attended an all girls' Catholic high school, so on most days we never fixed our hair or make up. However, we pulled out all the stops for the following picture because, of course, it was PICTURES WITH SANTA!!!! I am the tallest one with the biggest hair

I hate to burst your bubble but this is hardly "big hair". It is curly (permed) and full but hardly "big hair". Honestly, this is not a pic to be embarrassed in the least by. your mom and you look beautiful. :) While we all seem to wear straighter, flatter hair these days and your style would be *dated* to say the least, that's all it is. You look very pretty.

I never wore big hair either. I did have a curly perm once with it short at my ears and long in the back (OK, I'll say it, it was a well-cut mullet. :rotfl2: ) and that was pretty ridiculous but I was so thin and fit back then, my body makes up for the hair (which was the style so...) :rotfl:

I would love for big hair to come back in. Paul Mitchell taught me to do big hair and it as so much fun!

I was a failure at big hair. I would spend a hour working on my hour and then spray it with hairspray to preserve it when I was finished. Within an hour or two, it would start slowly sinking lower and lower and soon you would never know I spent all that time on it.

15 y/o (and it was shaved underneath as I was "punk"):

Oooo - more....

You can't really see me - but you can see my hair. :)

ROFL! So true. She has straight hair like me, but I won't get her a perm so she sometimes likes to sleep in curlers. She did it the night before the pictures. She calls it 'Cheer Hair' because when she was doing cheerleading, we always put her hair up to sleep in curlers so that she'd have thT kinky curly cheer ponytail. Of course, it was much longer then. She had it cut off for Locks of Love last summer.
