BIG hair

With my 20 year reunion coming up, some of my Facebook friends and I were going through some old pictures from highschool. God my hair was so embarrassing! It was huge. I used SO much hairspray everyday, Aqua Net aerosol (of course) Extra Super Hold in the pink can! I teased and picked and fluffed my do and then sprayed it until it was this massive poofed out helmet! It was literally hard as a rock! I wore so much makeup....I wouldn't be seen without my trademark "neon pink" lipstick.

I'm looking forward to seeing all my old classmates, but I know everyone is gonna bring up my hair! Oh well! Can anyone explain why we did this? Why was this hairstyle so popular? Big hair has got to be the most embarrasing hairstyle in history.

Did anyone else have hair like this? Have you "lost" all of those pictures

:lmao: I want to see a picture!! :D

I had awesomely feathered hair as a teenager (in the 80's)... I would have put Farrah Fawcett to SHAME!! I'll have to see if I can track down the pics; I know I've seen 'em somewhere.

My hair was made for big hair. It is very thick and naturally curly. The downside was, though, that I couldn't use banana clips or those plastic pony tail cones. I couldn't ever close them. I used to pull the sides up in a clip, push it forward for a poof, and then "do" my bangs. A little (or a lot) of Bold Hold and I was good to go!

In my graduation picture my bangs are as high as my cap! My DH use to call bangs like that satellite dishes.

And that was in 1991.

Oh God yes. I just found some high school pics I shared with my old classmates on FB...we all had big hair! And lots of makeup. That's what the teen years are all about. Try to laugh about it, it's fun. As long as you don't still have that hair, you should be okay at the reunion!!!!!:lmao:

I'm glad I didn't have the hair to do anything with.... mine was long and straight.

I can totally relate. I can't believe how I could get my bangs to look that way each day..........ughh...

 I still have the same basic style as I did in 1986! It's just gotten a little shorter in the back...but still has a "pouf" on top!

I really need some height on top. I look horrible with flat hair. And I do need hairspray to keep it "heightened." The good part is, it only takes me 5 minutes to do my hair in the morning...

I did have an HS friend who took 2 hours to fluff her hair every day. It stood 7" up and out. We used to delight in throwing pens at it and watching them bounce off.

:guilty: :sad2: :rotfl2:

Need I say more? And yes, I am from New Jersey.

Around Boston we had what was referred to as Revere hair. It was really big but the bangs would go straight up and then go back.

My hair was shorter than most (it is curly so it would just frizz) but my sister used that pink can of Aquanet. My DH used to tease her that flies were stuck in the cloud of hairspray in the bathroom. She wrecked one watch from all the aquanet on it.

I was married in 1985 and all my bridemaids were sporting the big hair!

My 16 yr old dd currently has pruple/blue streaks in her hair so I guess I know what she will laugh at when she is older.

Oh, I know what you mean! When I look at my old pics I just want to rip them up! I have thin blonde hair and I spent hours doing the Farrah Fawcett flip! I wish somedbody had taken me aside and said I was better off doing the Dorothy Hamill! Remember that one?

I heard big hair is coming back!:scared1:

I finally got good at using the flat iron and now I have heard that big hair is coming back as well. :scared1: I guess I'm always a trend behind!

It is coming back. My DD has beautiful, thick, culy hair so finally she is able to wear her hair natural and be in style. I think, though, that the naturally thick and curly hair looks much better than the forced, gelled, curled, teased and sprayed mess we had when us thin-haired girls tried to achieved the look.

I have horribly thin hair yet back in the 80s I still managed to acheive that 'big hair' look. I certainly made the most of all 86 strands of hair I had. But the end results was so stiff it didn't budge...imagine riding Space Mountain and at the end of it every hair is still perfectly in place. :lmao:

I did the curl it forward, brush it back and rat it routine. I look at the pictures now and can't understand why my mother would let me leave the house looking like that. I thought I was cool, but looking back I see I was the worst kind of cool, the kind that thought they were cool but really weren't.

How come I'm the only one that shared a picture? :confused3

I have a teenage daughter and just can't have evidence like that laying around, I would never hear the end of it, she would put it on her myspace and it would be all over her school, people would see and know. I wouldn't be able to pretend that I was ever normal.:lmao:

I understand completely. However, my daughter would die of embarassment if she ever knew I posted my pic online. She would NEVER do it herself, because she's much more embarassed by it than I am.

I see nothing wrong with your hair. I think it's beautiful. :)
