After an absolutely hellish few years, the only thing that has kept us going has been our trips to WDW and the knowledge that in time (sadly not a specific amount of time!) we would move to Florida. We have a lot of drama and issues to resolve but we were somewhat confident that we would finally make the move to the Sunshine State next summer.

Yesterday, as we waded through all of the things we need to resolve and deal with, we came to the realisation that moving next summer probably wasn't going to work well for us and that it would probably be better if we delayed it another year, and moved in the summer of 2015 so that our daughter could finish up primary school and stuff.

We know it's the right decision but that means it's TIME TO BOOK Disney 2014!!! :cool1:

Only 531 days to go! :rotfl2:
Good thing we only have 167 days 'til Disney 2013!!! :hyper:

Just wondering how you are getting a visa to move here? I really want to mow to the US, always have but immigration seems impossible :(

My DW is a US citizen. She is American by birth but I'm British and we live in the UK. So, I would get a green card automatically because I'm married to a US citizen. It is very difficult to move to the US if you don't have that option. Most people who do it, do so by buying a business and getting a visa that way. Others are sponsored via their employer.

DH and I keep have been talking about moving back for years, but we haven't actually done anything about it yet! Have you lived over there previously or will this be your 1st time? Bet you can't wait to be interigated by the US authorities!! ;)

I've never officially lived there. Back when we were dating before we got married, I would go over for the permitted 90 days, fly home for a short time and then fly back there for another 90 days, so I spent about 5 years over in Michigan. When my DW moved here, it was a headache process but nothing too terrible. Going back there will probably be more of a challenge, but I automatically qualify for a green card as a spouse, just have to go through the usual red tape process. We've been married for 7 years now (it will be 9 years by the time we move) so I am hoping it won't be too much of an ordeal.

The US embassy advised us that we should just go over (I currently have a B2 visitor visa) and apply for a change of status when I get there because it'll be quicker and easier.

See we will also go because of DH posting BUT my dad is American and I was only born over here due to him being stationed here so I'm in the middle of processing my dual passport and everything else etc so that DH & I can live there when we are through with the forces!

I spent a lot of time as a child in Orlando actually as my dad's family lives about 10 mins from I-drive and my wonderful parents ( adoptive grandparents by tech terms) made sure I grow up spending a lot of time with my extended family, an to see my bio dad I've always felt way more at home in the US then over here!

I loved my time in the US and felt at home there. We are not unhappy here, but we have had a lot of personal struggles in the last few years and we really need a new start somewhere we can be truly happy. We are a little worried because we don't know the Greater Orlando area very well and aren't sure what areas are good and which are not. At the moment, we favour moving to the Harmony community in St Cloud but we have to go check it out. Good luck with your move and all of the red tape!

Good Afternoon/Evening,

I noticed your post regarding the delay in moving to Florida and I am sorry to hear, but know you and your family will be able to make the dream come true! The reason I'm writing is my wife and I just came back from Florida last week and we made the decision to purchase and build a new home in Harmony and we should have our closing on November 1st of this year. (New home builds are just about 6 months on average)

We had similar thoughts about leaning towards Harmony during our considerations from afar, and when we got there we were just as impressed as we hoped (and even more so) with the community when we arrived. The only "downside" is the distance to other areas, attractions, and downtown Orlando (which isn't much of a downside for us). Real time travel from the Wilderness lodge took just over 50 minutes with normal traffic going the most direct route via GPS (turnpike) - and via 192, it took just over one hour and ten minutes.
Anyway, I wanted to drop you a line since I saw you were interested in the area, and reassure you - you will love Harmony!

When the move does arrive, we'll have to meet at Graze (restaurant), or the new wine bar that just opened last week. :)

Feel free to PM me if there are any questions or pictures I might be able to provide that could tide you over until you're able to visit Harmony and see for yourself - I know I would have wanted more info before we went!

Best wishes!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post about this because as you said, we really want to gather as much information as we can! From all of the information we have seen & read, we just feel it will be a great place to live and raise our kids.

We can't wait to visit in October! We have read through the packet of information they sent to us and have spent some time researching the schools. We wanted somewhere that had a little distance from the attractions but was close enough to visit regularly.

It's good to have a time scale for a new build, now we know when to get the ball rolling in time for the move!! I will definitely drop you a PM to see how your process is going. You must be so excited!

Congratulations and good luck with everything.

We're planning the end of July/early August 2014 (we're both teachers) and we'll be at the Beach Club... how about you??

October/November 2014 for us!! We will stay at Saratoga Springs Resort as we usually do. Love the Yacht and Beach Club but the price difference puts us off. We are both former teachers :rotfl2: DW wants to get back to teaching (I don't!) but we had a bad car accident a couple of years ago and both need some surgery for our injuries.

Did your dad register you as an American citizen? If so you should be able to just apply for an American passport. That's what we did for my youngest DD who was born in the UK. :goodvibes

Thanks I believe he did as he was stationed here when i was born ( it was meant to be Germany but my mum travelled over to see her parents at the last min and wasnt allowed to travel back lol so he had to join her.

so ill have to look into that, would be nice if its that straight forward! I would have lives with him but my mum got very sick with familia polypopos and so my grandparents took over with my dad being in the Army.

Hello again - Apparently I don't have enough posts to reply to your private message, but I have a whole typed out reply if you want to send me your email info.

The downside to being a "lurker" on the boards I guess...

Thanks,
Ken

No problem, I think you need a certain amount of posts for PM's. I'll PM you with my email.
